ENQUIRY INTO RUNNING AND RIDING OF “CLASSIC RULER” IN RACE NO.23 – THE AGNI PLATE (DI.I) (1200 METRES) RUN ON SATURDAY, 4TH AUGUST, 2012 :
Trainer Adil Dajee and Apprentice Tushar Nemane were questioned in the above connection. Trainer Dajee said that he had given similar instructions to Apprentice Tushar Nemane in this race as he had given Jockey P.Kamlesh in Race No.1 i.e. to hit the front and to do his best. However, after the race Apprentice Tushar Nemane informed him that immediately after the start the horse stumbled and by the time he could collect the horse the other horses had taken the lead and also the Jockey informed him that he was inconvenienced on about three occasions during the race. When asked about his observation of the race, Trainer Dajee said that Apprentice Tushar Nemane was not able to hit the front as instructed and thereafter he went all over the place and made his move from the wide outside on the Main Track where the going was soft, but keeping in mind that he is an apprentice, he gave him the benefit of the doubt. To another question, Trainer Adil Dajee said that CLASSIC RULER does not have any bad habits and he was not a difficult horse to ride but being an apprentice, the boy got panicked when he was not able to hit the front and thereafter went all over the place and travelled very wide, had the Jockey tried to come from the inside, possibly the horse would have finished closer, if not won. He said that he had fancied the horse Win / Place. When asked to explain the drift in the odds on his horse, Trainer Adil Dajee said that he himself had fancied the horse but he has no control over the odds, even the previous week he had a runner LEGENDS ORDER whose odds went up and that horse won the race. To another question, Trainer Adil Dajee said that it was very difficult to say at what stage the shoe may have fallen off, however, near about 800 metres, the Jockey had tried to make his move between two horses and there was a possibility the horse may have clipped at that stage and lost his shoe. He said that since the horse was running within a week he had not changed the shoeing. He further pointed out that CLASSIC RULER is a 7-year-old horse with joint problems and has not won a race for the last two years and the only reason he ran the horse in a weeks time was that the horse was looking fit and this was a poor set.
Apprentice Tushar Nemane said that he had worked CLASSIC RULER prior to the race and after taking consent from his master he had accepted to ride horse. He said that he was instructed to hit the front but soon after the start the horse stumbled and by the time he could pick him up the other horses had taken the lead and thereafter he could hear Jockeys on his inside shouting not to come in and he was blocked and therefore decided to come from the outside. To another question, Apprentice Tushar Nemane said that he only realized that the horse had lost a shoe when he got off the horse in the paddock.
The explanation tendered by the Trainer and Jockey was noted.
