ADDITIONAL REPORT/S:

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “MAKE WAY FOR ME” IN RACE NO 30 - THE STORM PLATE RUN ON 2ND AUGUST, 2015 (TR.ADHIRAJSINGH JODHA AND JOCKEY KAVRAJ SINGH) – THE OWNER ALSO LODGED A COMPLAINT THAT HE IS NOT SATISFIED WITH THE JOCKEY’’S RIDING:

The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Saturday, 24th October, 2015 interviewed Trainer Adhirajsingh Jodha and Jockey Kavraj Singh  and having heard them, considering all the papers and proceedings before them specially the drift in odds and having viewed the video of Race No.30 as also the subsequent run of the horse i.e. Race No.150, were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey Kavraj Singh and held him guilty of not allowing his mount MAKE WAY FOR ME to run on its merits as also for contravention of Rule 202 of the Rules of Racing. While deciding the penalty, the Stewards considered the time period for which Jockey Kavraj Singh has not been permitted to ride in races pending enquiry. Taking an overall view, the Stewards decided to withdraw his Jockey’s license with immediate effect till the end of Mumbai Meeting 2015/16 (Not permitted to ride work/mock race).

The Stewards interviewed Permission Boy Mr.Kamran Ahmed and his Spokesman Mr.Tauseef Ahmed and having heard them, were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Mr.Kamran Ahmed. While deciding the penalty, the Stewards considered the time period for which he was not permitted to ride work pending enquiry. Taking an overall view, the Stewards decided not to allow Mr.Kamran Ahmed to ride work until the end of the Mumbai Meeting 2015/16, after which it would be up to the Stipendiary Stewards to grant him permission to ride work as per the practice of the Club. It was made clear to him that working horses and betting cannot go hand in hand and if he wished to ride work, then he should stop betting completely. Further, the Stewards permitted him to attend races with immediate effect.

The Stewards interviewed Handler Thansingh and having considered all papers and proceedings before them, were not entirely satisfied with his explanation but keeping in mind the time he has been suspended pending enquiry, the Stewards decided to severely caution him for his lapse.

The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Saturday, 24th October, 2015 interviewed Dr.P.T.Khambatta in the above connection and having heard him and having deliberated the matter, were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by him and decided to fine him a sum of Rs.5,000/- for contravention of the Calendar Notification Re : “NORMS FOR PRIVATE PERACTITIONERS IN R.W.I.T.C. RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE IMPROVED PERFORMANCE OF “THEN AND NOW” IN RACE NO.185 - THE SAMSON CONTROLS TROPHY (DIV-II), RUN ON SATURDAY, 10TH OCTOBER, 2015 VIS-À-VIS ITS LAST RUN IN RACE NO.150 ON 20TH SEPTEMBER 2015 WHERE THE FILLY WAS UNPLACED:

Trainer H.J.Antia was questioned in the above connection. He stated that THEN AND NOW had raced after 21 days. Further, in her last outing over 6 furlongs, the filly was ridden by Jockey N.S.Parmar who told him after the race that the filly has a long way to go, as such he was experimenting with the filly and therefore raced her in this 7 furlongs race hoping that she will run a better race over an extended trip. He said that he  had not fancied her at all as she has never run on board. Further, he had offered the ride to Jockey N.S.Parmar this time, however he had another ride in the race and hence he declared App.N.Nadeem.  In his opinion the only advantage the filly had was the weight since she was carrying only 44 kgs.

After watching both the races and considering the under-mentioned points, no action has been initiated beyond cautioning the Trainer and drawing his attention to the calendar notification related to the improved performance of a horse :-.

a)       The filly was at longer odds on both occasions with no betting and had never run on board before;

b)       There were no common horses;

c)       The pattern of running was the same in both starts and the Trainer had claimed allowance in the race in question

RE:ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “AZADEGAN” IN RACE NO.186-THE VINAYAK TROPHY DIV.I, RUN ON SATURDAY 10th OCTOBER  2015.

Trainer Faisal A.Abbas and Jockey F.Irani were questioned in the above connection.

The video of the race was viewed and when questioned, Jockey F.Irani stated that his instructions were to take a good jump and sit well up and ride his own race. Further, he was asked to make the most use of the whip (8 whips) and to do his best. The Trainer confirmed the instructions.

The video of the race was viewed again and it was pointed out to Jockey F.Irani that only use of the whip is not sufficient but he should have been more vigorous in his riding efforts in the straight.

After hearing the submissions made by the Trainer and the Jockey, keeping in mind the Jockey’s riding calibre and the fact that the Trainer was happy with the riding, the explanation tendered by them has been noted and the enquiry into the running and riding has been kept open for the next couple of runs.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE POOR PERFORMANCE OF “SANS PEUR”  IN RACE NO.189 - THE JIMMY UMRIGAR TROPHY (DIV-II), RUN ON SATURDAY, 11TH OCTOBER, 2015 :

Trainer P.Shroff was questioned in the above connection. He stated that he had asked the Jockey to give the filly a little bit of a chance to settle and to do his best to which the Jockey had informed him that the filly was a little hesitant to race behind horses in her last run. However, he had told the Jockey that in any case try and come from the back because these are young horses and they are learning how to race. When asked for his observation, Tr.Shroff said that after jump out, the filly went to the front and stopped in the straight  and after the race Jockey P.Trevor informed him that the filly was keen so he went to the front. Tr.Shroff said that he had told Jockey P.Trevor that he was unhappy with his ride as he did not teach the filly to settle in the early part but when he looked at the overall performance of the filly, he did not want to attribute it only to her going to the front and he felt that there was a  need to look at her more deeply. To a specific question, the trainer stated that the filly returned sound after the race. He said that SANS PEUR is a light framed filly and was a maiden and from the way she stopped, he would like to check her wind as she already races with a Tongue Strap. He said that he would have the filly scoped on Sunday as he was waiting for  Dr.Hasney Mirza to arrive.

Tr.P.Shroff subsequently reported that he would be performing a tie forward surgery on the filly.

After watching the race and considering that the filly was a maiden and there being no drift in odds  and in view of the fact that the trainer had informed that the filly would be undergoing a tie forward surgery, no action has been initiated in the matter other than noting the explanation.

RE:ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “ICE GATE” IN RACE NO.191-THE SIR SULAN CHINOY TROPHY DIV.I, RUN ON SUNDAY 11th OCTOBER  2015.

Trainer H.J.Antia and Jockey Vikram Jodha were questioned in the above connection.

The video of the race was viewed and when questioned, Trainer H.J.Antia stated that he had instructed the Jockey to take a good jump and settle him nicely in mid bunch and to do his best. The Jockey confirmed the instructions. The Trainer added that the gelding runs best race when ridden from the back.

The video recording of the race was viewed again and it was pointed out to Jockey Vikram Jodha that in the straight his riding efforts were feeble and also, he was continuously bouncing in the saddle. After viewing the back view of the race, Trainer Antia also expressed his disappointment with the riding efforts of the Jockey.

After viewing all the races and camera angles, hearing the submissions made by the Trainer and the Jockey, the Stipendiary Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey Vikram Jodha and held him guilty of incompetent riding. However, keeping in mind that the horse was at longer odds, they took a lenient view and decided to suspend his Jockey’s license for only one race day  i.e. 19th November 2015.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “DIVINE SOLITAIRE” IN RACE NO. 191 - THE SIR SULTAN CHINOY TROPHY, RUN ON 11th OCTOBER, 2015.

Since Trainer Altaf Hussain and Jockey Prabhu Naidu were not available for questioning at the same time, they were questioned individually.

On being questioned why he chose Jockey Jockey Prabhu Naidu, Trainer Altaf Hussain stated that he gave this ride to Jockey Prabhu Naidu since the boy works for him. He said that he was not satisfied with the Jockey’s riding and also accepted the fact that he had not reported the same to the Stipes. However, he went on to add that he had questioned the Jockey after the race and learnt that the poor riding effort was a result of an injury on the Jockey’s hand and this was the reason he chose not to report him.

Jockey Prabhu Naidu accepted that he had failed to report his injury to the Medical Officer or the Trainer or the Stipendiary Stewards before the race. As such the same can only be perceived as an afterthought. After viewing the replay of the race and hearing all submissions made, the Stipendiary Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey Prabhu Naidu and suspended his Jockey’s license w.e.f. 19th November, 2015 to 29th November, 2015 (both days inclusive) for unsatisfactory riding (permitted to ride work/mock race). Further, he was severely cautioned for his carelessness in not bringing his injury to the attention of the concerned authority. Trainer Altaf Hussain was also cautioned and informed that the Stipendiary Stewards will be closely watching the future runs of this horse as well as the Jockeys he declares on this horse.

RE:ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “PEZZONOVANTE” IN RACE NO.193 - THE ANIMAL WELFARE BOARD OF INDIA CUP, RUN ON SUNDAY 11th OCTOBER  2015 :

The video of the race in question as also the horse’s previous race were shown to Trainer H.J.Antia and Apprentice N.Nadeem and thereafter, when questioned, Trainer H.J.Antia stated that he had instructed the Apprentice to jump out well and go to the front and coming into the straight to do his best Apprentice N.Nadeem confirmed the instructions. The trainer added that the gelding had run a good race since he finished only 1 ½ lengths behind the winner and if the apprentice had followed his instruction and gone to the front, he may have won the race.

To a specific question, Apprentice N.Nadeem stated that he could not go to the front and due to the kick back, he could not ride out and get into position. He added that passing 600 metres he had received interference and dropped back.

After viewing the video of both the runs of the gelding and hearing the submissions made by the Trainer and the Apprentice and also considering the fact that gelding had beaten all the common horses from his previous start and despite having received interference passing the 600 metres had still finished on well, no action has been initiated.

RE:ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “HIS HIGHNESS” IN RACE NO.201-THE DOI MOI PLATE, RUN ON FRIDAY 16th OCTOBER  2015.

Trainer Imtiaz A.Sait and Jockey D.K.Ashish were shown the replay of Race No.201 as also its previous race and thereafter questioned in the above connection. Trainer Imtiaz A.Sait said that Jockey D.K.Ashish was familiar with the horse, as such, he instructed him that HOLLY BULL or RICOCHET will play the role of a pace-maker, he should judge the pace and ride the horse, if the pace is fast then to use his judgement otherwise sit well up. Jockey D.K.Ashish confirmed the instructions and added that when he wanted to make his move approaching 400 metres, SAVAGE BEAUTY (Dashrath Singh) moved up on his outside and he had other horses in front of him, so he waited and soon thereafter when a gap opened up, he made his move but the horse did not respond that well initially and passing 400 metres he got into the horse as he has a small dash and did his best. Trainer Imtiaz A.Sait confirmed that the horse has a small dash.

The video of the race was viewed and it was pointed out to Jockey D.K.Ashish that he should have tried to make his move earlier. However, keeping in mind the previous races and that there was no drift in odds, no action has been initiated other than noting the explanation.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “JUDICIOUS” IN RACE NO. 205 THE FOURTH ESTATE TROPHY, RUN ON THE 16TH OCTOBER, 2015.

Trainer C.D.Katrak and Jockey P.Kamlesh were questioned in the above connection. Trainer Katrak stated that he instructed Jockey P.Kamlesh to go to the front or else sit well up. The Jockey confirmed the instructions.  Trainer  Katrak added that he was disappointed with the filly’s performance.

The previous race of the filly i.e. Race No.67 where she ran second, was viewed and the Trainer was asked to explain his reason for changing the filly’s running pattern vis-à-vis the race in question. Trainer C.D.Katrak stated that in Race No. 67 which was a 1400 Metre race, the filly ran very keen and therefore he chose to run her over a shorter distance from the front. However, the filly had performed poorly and he was disappointed with this performance.

It was also observed that in Race No. 12 JUDICIOUS had run with PEARL SECRET where PEARL SECRET had finished 3rd approximately 1 ¾  lengths ahead of JUDICIOUS and in the race in question PEARL SECRET has yet again finished ahead of “JUDICIOUS”. Taking into consideration all of the above and also the fact the filly is still a maiden, the explanation tendered by the Trainer and Jockey was noted.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE POOR PERFORMANCE OF “KALEIDOSCOPE” IN RACE NO.212 - THE KOJAGIRI PLATE (DIV-I), RUN ON SATURDAY, 17TH OCTOBER, 2015 :

Trainer P.Shroff was questioned in the above connection. He stated that he had instructed the Jockey to take a good jump and get into a decent position and to do his best. The replay of the race was viewed and thereafter, to a specific question, the Trainer admitted that the filly had run a very poor race. He said that he had the filly scoped after the race and no abnormality was detected, however, she had returned with sore eyes, possibly due to the kick back, and was treated at the Equine Hospital. The Jockey had informed the Stipes immediately after the races that he had felt that the filly was not comfortable.

After considering the Report from the Equine Hospital and the video of the race and considering that the filly had returned with eye injuries due to kick back which could be the reason for her poor performance and also there being no drift in odds, no action has been initiated.
