-----------------------------

RACE NO 1 (157) THE MIDORI PLATE: (ABOUT) 1600 METRES – Runners – 6

Approaching 1400 metres, FANTASTIC KINGDON (Malcolm Kharadi) shifted in and tightened WESTERLIE (Kavraj Singh), who in turn tightened CAVALRYMAN (A.Sandesh). Jockey Malcolm Kharadi has been fined Rs.1000/- for failing to exercise proper control over his mount.

After the race, DETROIT DEMON was found to be sore by the right fore leg. Also, the filly was observed to have a cut injury at the right hind pastern. The filly has to be passed fit by the Club’s VO before next accepting to race.

RACE NO 2 (158) THE RICHELIEU PLATE: (ABOUT) 2000 METRES – Runners – 8

An objection was lodged by Jockey Malcolm Kharadi, rider of GOSSIP (placed 4th), against Jockey A.M.Tograllu, rider of MARAUDER, placed 1st). The reason being, at  800 metres, MARAUDER cut across him very sharply due to which he was totally unbalanced and had to check his mount severely, which cost him a certain place.

After considering the submissions made by the Jockeys concerned, in conjunction with that of the Stipendiary Stewards  and relying on their judgment, the Stewards decided to over-rule the objection.

The Stewards after the last race interviewed Jockey A.M.Tograllu in the above connection and having considered the submissions made by him and having viewed the video recording of Race No.158, the Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey A.M.Tograllu. However, the Stewards decided to give him the benefit of the doubt for the charge of “dangerous riding” and held him guilty of careless riding on his mount MARAUDER in the above race. In that, passing 800 metres he shifted in sharply thereby causing interference to GOSSIP (Malcolm Kharadi) who in turn shifted in and caused severe interference to ZAAR (Shrikant Kamble) who was racing along the rails and lost position. Taking an overall view, the Stewards decided to suspend his Jockey’s license w.e.f. 9th October, 2011 to 15th October, 2011 (both days inclusive) (permitted to ride work/mock race). Further, he was informed that the Stewards took a lenient view this time and he was warned to be more careful in the future.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE POOR PERFORMANCE OF “STAR FUTURE” IN RACE NO.153 – THE NIRMAL RUIA GOLD TROPHY RUN ON SATURDAY, 17TH SEPTEMBER, 2011 COUPLED WITH THE DRIFT IN ODDS AND SUBSEQUENTLY THE HORSE BREAKING A BLOOD VESSEL IN THE RACE :

The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Saturday, 24th September, 2011 considered the evidence obtained by the Stipendiary Stewards in the above enquiry and interviewed Trainer C.D.Katrak.

Trainer C.D.Katrak explained that the horse is dry coated and the weather being very hot on the race day, it definitely had an effect on the horse and the horse was not looking good in the paddock and he had informed this to everybody who asked him about the chances of his horse. He said that once before in Mumbai also the horse had run poorly when the weather was hot in Mumbai. When questioned regarding the work pattern of the horse, Trainer Katrak said that this horse has soundness problems and therefore he raced him sparingly and the horse was in slow work after his last run in Pune. Trainer Katrak said that in this race a lot of betting had come on to CIEL INDIENNE and also he had informed people who asked him that his horse is dry coated and he was not looking good and this may be the reasons for the drift in the odds on STAR FUTURE.

The Stewards considered all papers and proceedings before them and heard all submissions made by Trainer C.D.Katrak and having examined the betting trends and having deliberated the matter at length and having applied their minds to the entire facts and circumstances of the case, were not entirely satisfied with the explanation tendered by Trainer C.D.Katrak in the subject case.

The Stewards noted that STAR FUTURE who was the form horse looked poor in the paddock and there was an alarming and  unusual drift in the odds, whereby the horse closed at near 9/2, from reportedly on money in the "morning prices" which were reported. It was reported by the trainer that the horse is dry and will not perform if the weather is hot and had bled after his run in The Poonawalla Breeders Multi-Million when he was in charge of Trainer Adil Dajee  and after the Indian 2000 Guineas he had scoped the horse after he returned to the stables and he was categorized as Grade 3 EIPH.  He admitted this should have been reported and apologized for not having done so.

Viewing the circumstances in totality, and examining the betting trends of the race, and noting the fact that trainer Katrak had not reported the fact of the horse being Grade 3 EIPH after his 2000 Guineas run, the Stewards decided to fine him a sum of Rs 50,000, giving him some benefit of doubt of a more grave offence in as the horse bled during the race, Trainer Katrak was also informed he had come up before the Stewards in the past of similar instances of his horses bleeding and the odds going up, and to exercise greater control in the running of his horses.

GENERAL:

RE: MORNING TRACK WORK – 20TH SEPTEMBER, 2011:
