Trainer H.J.Antia was questioned regarding the poor performance of YARDSTICK. The Trainer stated that YARDSTICK had raced four times in her career and she had no form coming into this race. He said that the filly had run well in her previous start in Race no 94 over 1400 metres where she raced from the front and was in contention till about 400 metes from home and today she was to start over 1000 metres which should have suited her and considering that the company was poor, he had given her a chance. ENQUIRY INTO THE POOR PERFORMANCE OF “GOOD LOOKING” IN RACE NO.145 – THE SATINELLO TROPHY (DIV.I) (1000 METRES) RUN ON SUNDAY, 20TH JANUARY, 2013 :

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer S.K.Sunderji in the above connection. He said that GOOD LOOKING came to him as a baby and she has always performed consistently in all her runs except her last run in Race No.145 and the only reason he could think of for this poor performance was that this time the mare raced in a short span of time. He explained that she is a light frame mare and needs time to recoup and he has generally run the mare in her previous races after a gap of three to four weeks but this time she ran in ten days time. He added that the mare has run some good races in the past with younger horses and in the previous race she had finished a good second to ANAHI. However, after that race, he came across this race for her age group and in view of her form, he was lured into racing her in this race, which he now realized may have been a mistake as the previous race had taken the toll on her and whilst going to the start she showed signs of resentment this time. When questioned about her work pattern, he said that after her previous race he only worked her in the school and she went one canter and she was eating well.

The explanation tendered by Trainer S.K.Sunderji was noted.

ENQUIRY INTO THE COMPARATIVE PERFORMANCE OF “ILLUSTRIOUS” IN RACE NO.145 – THE SATINELLO TROPHY (DIV.I) (1000 METRES) RUN ON SUNDAY, 20TH JANUARY, 2013 WHICH THE MARE WON AS COMPARED TO HER PREVIOUS RUN WHERE SHE HAD RUN UNPLACED :

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Imtiaz A.Sait in the above connection. Trainer Sait’s attention was drawn that in the previous race i.e. Race No.115 run on 3rd January, 2013 with Jockey S.Sameer, the mare had finished almost 15 lengths behind and this time he had declared Jockey Dashrath Singh. Also, there were four common horses vis-à-vis Race No.36 viz. ALBUURZ, CHECK HER OUT, GOOD LOOKING and TITLEIST who had all finished ahead of ILLUSTRIOUS.  Trainer Imtiaz A.Sait said that in Race No.36 all the horses had finished in close order and although ILLUSTRIOUS had finished ninth, she was hardly 6 lengths from the winner. In her next start i.e. Race No.115 where she finished 15 lengths behind, her poor performance could be due to her being badly injured on the hind leg which nobody noticed and even the Jockey did not inform him but when he noticed in the evening, he got the mare treated at the Club’s Equine Hospital with pain killers and she was in rest for three to four days. He further explained that ILLUSTRIOUS had a lot of soundness issues and she has just come out of it. Also, she tends to bolt in work and only Jockey S.Sameer works her and that is why he put him up in the first two races. This time the mare raced in her own age group and since she was due to be retired to stud soon, the Owners, who mainly reside abroad and do not bet, had specifically told him that if he did not find a good Jockey this time then he should not race her and hence he declared Jockey Dashrath Singh. He said that the mare won at longer odds.

The explanation tendered by Trainer Imtiaz A.Sait was noted.

RE : “TOPTRICK” WHICH RAN IN RACE NO.150 – THE TRICUMDAS DWARKADAS TROPHY (DIV.I) RUN ON 20TH JANUARY, 2013 :

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that TOPTRICK (D.A.Naik) hung out in the straight and carried ALWAYS SMILE outwards for a few strides and then continued to drift out. Since the colt had behaved in a similar manner in its earlier runs during the current Mumbai Meeting, they recommended that TOPTRICK be stopped from racing until shown to their satisfaction in a Mock Race.

The Stewards at their meeting held on Thursday, 24th January, 2013 considered the above report and decided to accept the above recommendation of the Stipendiary Stewards.
