RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “AMORE MIO” IN RACE NO.46 – THE SIR RAHIMTOOLA CHINOY TROPHY RUN ON 9TH DECEMBER, 2010 :

The Stewards at their meeting held on Thursday, 23rd December, 2010 considered the evidence obtained by the Stipendiary Stewards in the above enquiry. They interviewed Trainer P.Shroff and Jockey S.Zervan and having heard the submissions made by them and viewing the video recording of the race :-

i)          the Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey S.Zervan and held him guilty of  not permitting his mount AMORE MIO to run on its merits in the above race. In that, he waited for too long to make his move in the straight and allowed ANGELO to take a big break and thereafter made his move at 200 metres when it was too late and lost by a Head. Therefore, the Stewards decided to suspend his Jockey’s license w.e.f. 7th January, 2011 to 27th March, 2011 (both days inclusive) (not permitted to ride work/mock race).

ii)
The Stewards were also not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Tr.P.Shroff. They held the view that since he had two fancied runners in this race, he should have given explicit instructions to Jockey S.Zervan when to make his move, which he failed to do and also tried to defend the Jockey’s riding in this race. Further, the Stewards also held him guilty of giving misleading evidence in the enquiry. Therefore, the Stewards decided to fine him a sum of Rs.25,000/-

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “ASHWA PRAHAR” IN RACE NO.37 – THE  POWERHOUSE EASTERN GERMANY TROPHY (1000 METRES)  RUN ON SUNDAY, 5TH DECEMBER,  2010 :

They interviewed Trainer Sangramsinh N.Joshi and Jockey R.Rupesh  and having heard the submissions made by them and viewing the video recording of the race, the Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey R.Rupesh and held him

guilty of  riding an incompetent  race.  In that,  entering the straight there was big gap available which he did not take and instead shifted out thus losing valuable ground. RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “LOYAL TYCOON” IN RACE NO.37 – THE  POWERHOUSE EASTERN GERMANY TROPHY (1000 METRES)  RUN ON SUNDAY, 5TH DECEMBER,  2010 :

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Narendra Lagad and Jockey H. G.Rathod  in the above connection.  Trainer Narendra Lagad said that LOYAL TYCOON was a five year old horse who was still a maiden. He said that because of unsoundness, he cannot work the horse on the Track and kept him on swimming and the horse comes up race to race. He said that in Race No.37 he had instructed the Jockey to ride his own race, however, he had also told him that the horse has soundness problem, therefore, to try and give him support in the early part and ride out in the straight. Jockey H.G.Rathod confirmed the instruction and added  that  the horse was lugging-in in the early part and therefore he held the left rein tight and rode out in the straight.

The video recording of Race No.37 was viewed and it was pointed out to Jockey H.G.Rathod that this was a 1000 metres race and the horse took a good start but thereafter, he had held the horse back by holding the left reins tight instead of allowing the horse to run free. Jockey H.G.Rathod reiterated that the horse was lugging-in soon after the start and therefore he held the left reins tight. Also, it was at the back of his mind that the horse has soundness problem and he wanted to give him support in the early part as instructed by the Trainer. He said that he had not  worked the horse prior to the race and this was the first time he rode the horse. Also, the horse did not have early speed and had warmed up towards the end and he had advised the Trainer to run him over a longer trip.

Trainer Narendra Lagad  confirmed that the Jockey had advised him after the race to run the horse over a longer trip. He said that the horse returned sound after Race No.37, however, he came back sore after Track Work this morning (18th December, 2010).

After scrutinizing the betting sheets and keeping in mind that the horse has soundness problem  and he will soon turn a 6-year-old and was still a maiden, the explanation tendered by the Trainer and Jockey was noted.
