Trainer M.Narredu and Jockey Jockey B.Sreekanth were questioned regarding the running and riding of BE SAFE. Trainer M.Narredu said that he had instructed the Jockey to settle the horse on the inside and coming into the straight, pull the horse out and make his move. Jockey B.Sreekanth confirmed the instructions and added that on jump out, ERAGON (David Allan, dr.10) took him out and he immediately corrected his mount and settled him on the inside and coming into the straight he pulled the horse out and did his best and it was bad luck that he lost the race. When asked as to why he did not use the whip at the top of the straight as a reminder, he said that since the horse was moving well he did not require to use the whip. The matter was reported to the Stewards for such action as deemed fit.
The Stewards after the last race interviewed Trainer M.Narredu and Jockey B.Sreekanth and having heard them and having viewed the video recording of Race No.226 as also the horse’s previous two races during the current Mumbai Meeting, were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey B.Sreekanth. The Stewards noted that he settled his horse too far behind and also made his move late. Entering the straight when he pulled the horse out, he should have used the whip as a reminder which he failed to do. Further, when he did use the whip once in the last furlong, by his own admission, the horse responded and yet he did not continue the use of the whip and when questioned in this connection he had no plausible explanation to offer. Further, he also travelled wide and changed course in the straight thereby losing valuable ground and his riding had cost him a certain race. However, taking an overall view, the Stewards decided to give him the benefit of the doubt for mala-fide intent and held him guilty of incompetent riding. Therefore, the Stewards decided to suspend his Jockey’s license w.e.f. 13th March, 2014 23rd March, 2014 (both days inclusive) (permitted to ride work).
After the race, WAR COMMAND was found to be sound, but having an abrasion at the right hind coronet. BE SAFE and ERAGON were found to be sound.

Trainer Altaf Hussain has been asked to give the gelding more gate practice and show him to the satisfaction of the Starter in a mock race, before next accepting to race.
Passing 200 metres, ATHENS (Dashrath Singh) was held up for a few strides as MINE FOREVER (S.Zervan) shifted in. Jockey S.Zervan has been cautioned.

RE : APPEAL FROM JOCKEY V.CHANDRAKANT IN RESPECT OF SUSPENSION OF HIS JOCKEY’S LICENSE W.E.F. 20/02/2014 TILL THE END OF THE MUMBAI MEETING 2013/14 AND THEREAFTER, SHOULD HE APPLY FOR A JOCKEY’S LICENSE FOR THE SEASON 2014/15, HE MAY BE GRANTED ONLY A CONDITIONAL JOCKEY’S LICENSE WHEREBY HE CANNOT RIDE IN RACES BUT CAN ONLY RIDE HOSES IN WORK/MOCK RACE TO EARN HIS LIVELIHOOD - ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “ROCK THE TURF” IN RACE NO.177 – THE ROYAL CHALLENGE ‘GAME FOR LIFE’ CUP (DIV.II) RUN ON SUNDAY, 2ND FEBRUARY, 2014 :
The Board of Appeal at its meeting held on 22nd February, 2014 considered the Appeal preferred by Jockey V.Chandrakant. The Board of Appeal considered all documents and papers that were submitted including his grounds of appeal. The Board heard the submissions made by Jockey V.Chandrakant and his Spokesman, Mr.Kishore M.Dingra. During deliberation on the matter at length, the Board noted that the Stewards have given the following punishments to Jockey V.Chandrakant :-
(a) Suspension of his Jockey’s licence w.e.f. 20th February, 2014 till the end of Mumbai Meeting 2013/14 (permitted to ride work)
(b) Thereafter, should he apply for a Jockey’s licence for the Season 2014/15, he may be granted only a conditional Jockey’s license whereby he cannot ride in races but can only ride horses in work/mock race to earn his livelihood.
The Board felt that the punishment meted out to Jockey V.Chandrakant by the Stewards as stated above was too harsh. The Board of Appeal therefore felt that the punishment mentioned in (a) above i.e. suspension of his Jockey’s license w.e.f. 20th February, 2014 till the end of Mumbai Meeting 2013/14 (permitted to ride work) would suffice in this case. The Board of Appeal therefore decided to partially allow his appeal by modifying the punishment by retaining only the suspension of his Jockey’s license w.e.f. 24th February, 2014 till the end of Mumbai Meeting 2013/14 (both days inclusive (permitted to ride work). The deposit was ordered to be refunded.
