RACE DAY REPORTS
RAILS WERE PLACED 3 METRES AWAY FROM ITS ORIGINAL POINT FROM 1400 METRES (MILE CHUTE) TO 800 METRES AND THEREAFTER 5 METRES AWAY UP TO THE WINNING POST. FOR THE RACES STARTING FROM THE BACK STRETCH, RAILS WERE PLACED 3 METRES AWAY FROM ITS ORIGINAL POINT FROM 1400 METRES TO 1000 METRES.
On a request from Trainer Altamaash A. Ahmed, permission was granted to Trainer Rehanullah Khan to saddle his charge ALEXIA in the 1st race, at his (Trainer Altamaash A. Ahmed’s) risk and responsibility.

On a request from Trainer M. Narredu, permission was granted to his Assistant Trainer Deepesh Narredu to saddle his charges LORD ARAZAN (6th race) and THE BIG REVIVAL (8th race), at his (Trainer M. Narredu’s) risk and responsibility.

RACE NO.1(181) – THE ACRES CLUB TROPHY: (About) 1600 Metres – Runners - 9
NELSONS BLOOD (P. Trevor) stumbled after the start.
FLASHING HONOUR (Dashrath Singh) jumped out slow, losing about 2 lengths at the start.
At the start, ELSA (Bhawani Singh, dr.3) jumped outwards on to SUSSEX PRIDE (Shrikant Kamble, dr.4).
At the start, KODIAC QUEEN (A. Sandesh, dr.6) jumped outwards and at the same time SUMAAQ (C. S. Jodha, dr.8) jumped inwards thereby tightening NIGHTFALL (Amyn Merchant, dr.7).
In the final stages of the race, ELSA (Bhawani Singh) drifted out under pressure.
After the race, Jockey P. Trevor (NELSONS BLOOD) reported that his mount hung out in the straight and in the process of correcting his mount, the bridle had shifted. Trainer Vishal Gaikwad has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the gelding.
An enquiry has been initiated into the improved performance of ELSA in this race and a report will be submitted shortly.
After the race, NELSONS BLOOD and NIGHTFALL (examined on 24/02/2017) were trotted and found to be sound.
RACE NO.2(182) – THE MALABAR HILLS CLUB CUP: (About) 1400 Metres – Runners – 5
After declarations, Jockey P. S. Chouhan informed that he had erroneously accepted to ride SHE IS SPECIAL in this race and would be unable to fulfill his riding engagement as he had already accepted rides at Madras Race Club. As such, Jockey P. S. Chouhan has been fined Rs.5,000/- for failing to fulfill his riding engagement and Trainer Altaf Hussain was permitted to declare Jockey Dashrath Singh in place of Jockey P. S. Chouhan.
At the start, SHE IS SPECIAL (Dashrath Singh, dr. 4) was slow to begin and veered inwards and had to be steadied.
After the race, JEANNINE was observed to have an injury at the left hock and left hind bulb of heel.
RACE NO.3(183) – THE BOMBAY PRESIDENCY RADIO CLUB TROPHY: (About) 1400 Metres – Runners - 7
At the request of Trainer S. K. Sunderji, ALOHA was examined at 1030 hours on 21/02/2017 and was observed to have sustained injuries on the left fore fetlock and elbow, left hind fetlock and hock and under the tail. As such, the filly was certified unfit to race and was withdrawn on veterinary grounds. The Trainer is required to obtain a fitness certificate for the filly from the Club’s V.O. before next accepting to race.
At the start, MASSIMO (J. Chinoy, dr.2) shifted in on to SELFIE STAR (A. Sandesh, dr.1).
In the final stages of the race, SELFIE STAR (A. Sandesh) drifted out under pressure.
The girth used on CAPRISCA (P. Trevor) was observed to have unbuckled during the race. On examining after the race, the saddle and the girth was found to be in serviceable condition. Jockey P. Trevor has been asked to exercise caution in the future with regard to his equipment.
After the race, Jockey N. S. Parmar (THEMIS) reported that his mount hung-in in the straight. Trainer M. K. Jadhav has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the filly.
After the race, SELFIE STAR was trotted and found to be sound.
RACE NO.4(184) – THE BOMBAY GYMKHANA TROPHY: (About) 1000 Metres – Runners - 10
POLYNEICES (P. Trevor) was reluctant to be stalled and thereafter was restless in the stall and not allowing the rider to settle. AUBURN (Kishore Kadam) was also restless in the stall and not allowing the rider to settle. Trainers Shazaan Shah and Vishal Gaikwad have been asked to give their respective charge more gate practice and show them to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.
ORION’S BELT (Bhawani Singh) and BUNTING (N. S. Parmar) jumped out slow, losing about 2 lengths each, at the start.
At the start, ASCENSION (Neeraj Rawal, dr.7) jumped outwards on to SAFFRON FLOWER (App. S. A. Amit, dr.8).
Soon after the start, MAGICAL BLOSSOM (C. S. Jodha, dr.10) shifted in under urgings and made contact with SAFFRON FLOWER (App. S. A. Amit). Jockey C. S. Jodha has been fined Rs.1,000/-.
Passing 400 metres, ORION’S BELT (Bhawani Singh) shifted out forcing MAGICAL BLOSSOM (C. S. Jodha) outwards on to BUNTING (N. S. Parmar) who had to be steadied. Jockey Bhawani Singh has been cautioned.
Approaching 100 metres, POKERFACE (J. Chinoy) shifted out and went across WILD FIRE (Dashrath Singh). On questioning, Jockey J. Chinoy stated that his mount had shifted out despite his efforts. Trainer Nosher Cama has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the gelding.
Approaching 100 meteres, Jockey Dashrath Singh (WILD FIRE), in the process of changing his whip hand was observed to have fumbled with it.
After the race, POKERFACE, POLYNEICES and ASCENSION were trotted and found to be sound. POKERFACE had a gum injury.
RACE NO.5(185)–THE OTTERS’ CLUB TROPHY: (About) 1200 Metres – Runners - 13
Passing 800 metres, BACKSTREET BAY (App. D. R. Shubham) shifted out and made contact with GRANDE VITESSE (App. K. Nazil) who had to be steadied App. D. R. Shubham has been cautioned.
Passing 200 metres, ZOOM ZOOM (Akshay Gaikwad) shifted in under the use of whip thereby inconveniencing CRACKLIN’ ROSIE (Suraj Narredu) who had to be steadied. Jockey Akshay Gaikwad has been cautioned.
Passing 100 metres, SPEED OF SOUND (J. Chinoy) shifted in thereby tightening TOP WIZARD (R. Ajinkya) along the rails.
In the final stages of the race, ZOOM ZOOM (Akshay Gaikwad) shifted out under urgings and at the same time GRANDE VITESSE (App. K. Nazil) shifted in thereby tightening BACKSTREET BAY (App. D. R. Shubham) who was racing between them.
After the race, TOP WIZARD was found to be sore by the right fore leg. The gelding has to be passed fit by the Club’s V.O. before next accepting to race.
RACE NO.6(186) – THE NATIONAL SPORTS CLUB OF INDIA TROPHY:(About) 1200 Metres – Runners - 7
At the request of Trainer S. K. Sunderji, REMEMBER THE TIME was examined at 1035 hours on 21/02/2017 and was found to be sore by the left fore leg. As such, the gelding was certified unfit to race and was withdrawn on veterinary grounds. The gelding has to be passed fit by the Club’s V.O. before next accepting to race.
Jockey J. Chinoy (LORD ARAZAN) has been cautioned for failing to send his saddle on time for saddling thereby delaying the race.
At the start, ARTISTIC (Akshay Gaikwad, dr. 2) jumped outwards and went on to AN JOLIE (N. S. Parmar, dr.3) who in turn shifted out on to BEACH GAME (P. Trevor, dr.4).
At the start, FLASHY WINGS (Neeraj Rawal, dr.7) jumped inwards inconveniencing MAGICAL DANCER (Dashrath Singh, dr.6), who in turn shifted in on to LORD ARAZAN (J. Chinoy, dr.5) who was slow to begin.
Passing 300 metres, ARTISTIC (Akshay Gaikwad) was observed to have shifted out under pressure and was steadied.
After the race, MAGICAL DANCER and ROMANTIC LASS (examined on 24/02/2017) were trotted and found to be sound.
RACE NO.7(187) –THE WILLINGDON SPORTS CLUB CUP: (About) 1200 Metres – Runners – 11
(THE CRICKET CLUB OF INDIA TROPHY(DIV.II) WAS RENAMED AS ABOVE)
RICARDUS (R. Ajinkya) was restless in the stall and not allowing the rider to settle. Trainer S. K. Sunderji has been asked to give the colt more gate practice and show him to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.
At the start, DECCAN KING (App. N. Nadeem, dr.7) jumped outwards on to ITS A DEAL (M. A. Roushan, dr.8). Thereafter, ITS A DEAL (M. A. Roushan) shifted in and made contact with DECCAN KING (App. N. Nadeem dr.7) forcing him inwards.
Passing 400 metres, LUCKY STRIKE (C. S. Jodha) shifted out on to RISING CONCERT (App. Raghuveer Singh) who in turn shifted out and went across ITS A DEAL (M. A. Roushan) forcing him to be checked and change course. Jockey C. S. Jodha has been cautioned.
After the race, LUCKY STRIKE, ITS A DEAL, SUPER BOLT and GOLDEN GLORY (examined on 24/02/2017) were trotted and found to be sound.
RACE NO.8(188)–THE CRICKET CLUB OF INDIA TROPHY(DIV.I): (About) 1200 Metres – Runners – 12
ROYAL MEWS (G. Amit) was brought into the paddock sporting Blinkers. As permission to use the same was not obtained, the Blinkers were removed before the horse left the paddock. Trainer Faisal A. Abbas has been fined Rs.1,000/- for this lapse on his part.
At the start, GOLD STREAK (App. N. Nadeem, dr.8) jumped inwards on to ISINIT (Amyn Merchant, dr.7) who was tightened for room. Thereafter, ISINIT (Amyn Merchant) shifted out and made contact with GOLD STREAK (App. N. Nadeem).
At the start, SAMURAI (S. Joseph, dr.11) shifted in forcing BAKER STREET (App. H. Zeeshan, dr.10) inwards on to ASAHI (Neeraj Rawal, dr.9).
Soon after the start, BAKER STREET (App. H. Zeeshan) shifted in thereby tightening ASAHI (Neeraj Rawal) and ISINIT (Amyn Merchant). Apprentice H. Zeeshan has been cautioned.
Approaching 400 metres, TONTERIA (App. Vishal N. Bunde) shifted out and carried KNIGHT’S QUEST (N. S. Parmar) and CRYSTALL BALL (Akshay Gaikwad) outwards. Apprentice Vishal N. Bunde has been cautioned.
Passing 250 metres, KNIGHT’S QUEST (N. S. Parmar) shifted in under urgings and went on to TONTERIA (App. Vishal N. Bunde), who in turn shifted in and went on to ROYAL MEWS (G. Amit) forcing the latter to be checked. After questioning Jockey N. S. Parmar and not being entirely satisfied with his explanation, he was fined Rs.2000/- for failing to make sufficient efforts to correct his mount.
After the race, ROYAL MEWS was observed to have broken a blood vessel and is not to race for the stipulated ban period of four weeks. The filly has to be passed fit by the Club’s V.O. before next accepting to race.
The Sr. V.O. reported that TONTERIA and CRYSTAL BALL were examined at the stables in the morning on 24/02/2017 and found to be sound in trot.

The urine samples of the winner of the 1st, 5th, 6th and 8th race, viz. ELSA, POWER SHADOW, ARTISTIC and KNIGHT’S QUEST, and the special sample of NELSONS BLOOD (1st race) and POLYNEICES (4th race), were collected for detection of prohibited substance.

MORNING TRACK WORK ON 19th FEBRUARY, 2017:
The Sr. V.O. reported that after morning track work on 19th February, 2017 PROMINENCE was scoped at the Equine Hospital and reported to be Gr.III EIPH. The filly is not to race for the stipulated ban period of four weeks and has to be passed fit by the Club’s V.O. before next accepting to race.
