RACE NO.1(10)  – THE  GRAND PASSION PLATE (DIV.II) : (About) 1000 Metres – Runners - 8

At the behest of the Stipendiary Stewards, a Stewards Enquiry was held into the running of this race. The reason being that it was felt that App Tushar Nemane (CELSIUS) had not permitted his mount to run on its merits thereby willfully losing the race. Mr.Vikram D.Shah, part-owner of CELSIUS and Trainer Imtiaz A.Sait also lodged complaints against Apprentice Tushar Nemane.

The Stewards interviewed Apprentice Tushar Nemane and Trainer Imtiaz A.Sait as also Mr.Vikram D.Shah and having carefully considered the submissions made by them, the Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Apprentice Tushar Nemane.  The Stewards also felt that some other runners may not have been permitted to run on merits.

After deliberation, the Stewards decided to invoke Rule 31 (a) of the Rules of Racing and to declare the race null and void in the best interest of racing as the circumstances led to believe prima-facie that the race was not fairly run. The Stewards further decided to suspend Tushar Nemane’s Apprentice Jockey’s license with immediate effect pending enquiry.

The Stewards after the last race again interviewed Apprentice Tushar Nemane who was accompanied by his Master, Mr.P.Shroff and having recorded their preliminary statements, directed the Stipendiary Stewards to conduct a detailed enquiry into the running of the above race and to submit a report.

RACE NO.2(11) – THE NYAYO PLATE: (About) 1600 Metres – Runners - 8

Jockey P.Trevor (QUEEN’S CAMP) reported that his mount lugged-in in the straight. Trainer Altaf Hussain has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the filly.

Trainer Faisal A.Abbas, was given an opportunity to explain the comparative performance of his charge SONG OF PRAISE in this race which the gelding won. Trainer Faisal A.Abbas said that his instructions in this race were to push and go to the front as a last time effort to see if the gelding performs. He added that this was the gelding’s maiden win. He had raced only twice during the Pune Meeting 2012 as the horse had some issues. He added that the gelding was looking better today and that the Mumbai Track may have suited him. As this was probably the last run of the gelding before retiring, he had put up the best possible Jockey at the owners behest. He added that the gelding was available at longer odds. The explanation was noted.

After the race, LIGHT MY WAY and KALINGA STAR were found to be sound.
