RACE NO.1 (284) – THE SIMPLY GORGEOUS PLATE: (About) 2000 Metres – Runners - 5

Jockey D.K.Ashish (ADVENTURER) has been cautioned for easing up his mount before passing the winning post.

Jockeys T.S.Jodha (MONEY FOR NOTHIN) and Dashrath Singh (CAVALRYMAN) have been fined Rs.3000/- each for using the whip in excess of the prescribed limit on their respective mounts.

When questioned regarding the comparative performance of ADVENTURER, Trainer M.Narredu stated that ADVENTURER was a mediocre horse. As compared to previous time, the gelding was able to hit the front this time due to the pace being slow and in a smaller field which may have suited him. From the previous start, the gelding was running over an extended trip. He added that the gelding had run well in Race no 54 which was over 1800 metres. He added that the horse had run after a month. The explanation was noted.

After the race, LAKE CHIEF was found to be sound,

RACE NO.2 (285)  – THE  M.D.PETIT PLATE (DIV.II): (About) 1200 Metres – Runners – 8

KITE RUNNER (C.S.Jodha) planted and was assisted out of the gates.  Since the mare had behaved in a similar manner in her previous start, she has been banned from racing for a period of one month after which she has to be shown to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials before accepting to race.

At the Start, VISIONAIRE (M.A.Roushan, dr.6) jumped awkwardly inwards and caused interference to FALLEN ANGEL (A.Sandesh, dr.5).

STARLIGHT MAGIC (B.Prakash) raced keen in the early part and in trying to settle,  the gelding threw its head around.

In the early part of the race, FALLEN ANGEL (A.Sandesh) was ridden in check due to crowding.

Jockey M.A.Roushan (VISIONAIRE) reported loss of whip near 200 metres.

Near 100 metres, FALLEN ANGEL (A.Sandesh) shifted in under the use of the whip due to which VISIONAIRE (MA Roushan) shifted in and inconvenienced MACHO UNO (Vikram Jodha).

An Objection was lodged by Jockey B.Prakash, the rider of STARLIGHT MAGIC (placed second) against ROGER BCOOL (S.S.Baria, placed first). The reason being, in the last 250 metres, ROGER BCOOL cut across him from the inside due to which he was unbalanced and had to stop riding for a couple of strides which broke the rhythm of his horse and this cost him the race.

After considering the submissions made by the Jockeys concerned, in conjunction with that of the Stipendiary Stewards and relying on their judgment, the Stewards decided to over-rule the objection.

ROGER BCOOL hung out badly in the straight. Since the gelding had behaved in a similar earlier, Trainer S Shaikh has been asked show the gelding to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards in a Mock Race, before next accepting to race.

Trainer S.Shaikh was questioned with regard to the comparative performance of ROGER BCOOL in this race which the gelding won as compared to its previous start in Race no 273 run on 15th March, 2012 over 1400 metres. The Trainer stated that the Instructions were to be well up in 3rd or 4the position, pull the horse out in the straight and ride out. He added that  in Race No.273, it was the gelding’s first run under his charge and Jockey P.Trevor had informed him after the race that there was crowding which the horse did not like. To another question, the Trainer stated that he did not fancy the gelding and he was at longer odds. When questioned as to the choice of the Jockey this time, he stated that Jockey S.S.Baria works this horse but he was not available when the gelding ran in Race no 273 and this time, since he was available, he had declared him. The matter was reported to the Stewards.

The Stewards interviewed Trainer S.Shaikh and informed him that they were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by him and found him in breach of the Calendar Notification Re “ Comparative performance of horses winning within a short span of time”. However, considering that this was only the second run of the horse under his charge and the horse had won un-fancied, the Stewards decided to only caution him on this occasion and to warn him to be more careful in the future.

After the race, ROGER BCOOL was found to be sound.

RE: APPEAL AGAINST THE DECISION OF THE STEWARDS OF THE CLUB IN RESPECT OF SUSPENSION OF HIS JOCKEY’S LICENSE W.E.F 25TH MARCH 2012 TO 29TH MARCH 2012 FOR USING HIS WHIP IN EXCESS OF THE PRESCRIBED LIMIT ON HIS MOUNT “SERGEANT PEPPER” IN RACE NO 250 RUN ON 8TH MARCH 2012 – JOCKEY P TREVOR:

The Board of Appeal at its meeting 21st March 2012 having considered all documents and papers that were submitted and having heard the submissions made by him and his Spokesman, Mr. S Kapoor, and having viewed the video recording of the race in question, deliberated on the matter at length and having applied their minds, decided to reject his Appeal and forfeit the Deposit. Accordingly, the decision of the Stewards of the Club stands.

RE : JOCKEY P.TREVOR – REPORTED TO THE STEWARDS FOR BREACH OF THE RULES REGARDING THE USE OF THE WHIP ON “PERSIAN” IN RACE NO. 276 RUN ON 18TH MARCH, 2012 AND ON “CYPRESS POINT” IN RACE NO.258 RUN ON 11TH MARCH, 2012 :

The Stewards at their meeting held on Thursday, 22nd March, 2012 interviewed Jockey P.Trevor in the above connection and not being satisfied with the explanation tendered by him decided to deprive him of the use of the whip in races with immediate effect till the end of the Mumbai Meeting 2011/12.  Further, he was severely cautioned to be more careful in the future.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE INCONSISTENT PERFORMANCE OF “DANCING JENNY” IN RACE NO.263 – THE AEROSPACE TROPHY RUN ON SUNDAY, 11TH MARCH, 2012 WHICH THE FILLY WON AS COMPARED TO HER PREVIOUS RUNS DURING THE CURRENT MUMBAI MEETING :

Trainer Sanjay Kolse was questioned in the above connection.  He said that DANCING JENNY is a light filly with a dip back and cannot be worked hard. He said that the filly raced twice during the Pune Meeting 2011 and had shown no form having run unplaced and after her second run on 16th of September, 2011 she developed a splint and was in rest for  nearly three and half months. After coming to Mumbai the filly ran in Race No.72 over 1200 metres where he declared Jockey Ishwar Pardeshi  and had instructed the boy to sit well up and the boy rode as instructed and the filly ran a decent race to finish 7th. Thereafter, he entered the filly in Race No.133 over 1200 metres and declared Jockey A.Sandesh and instructed him to sit well in 3rd/4th position which he could not do and sat a little behind and the filly responded well in the straight to finish a good second, however, the company was poor in that race, the winner having clocked 1 Min. 13.66 seconds. After the race the Jockey informed him that the filly does not have early speed. Thereafter, he again accepted with the filly in Race No.217 again over 1200 metres and had fancied her strongly that day. He said that he wanted to declare the same Jockey in Race No.217 however, Jockey A.Sandesh advised him to claim allowance. Therefore, he declared App.Prabhu Naidu and instructed him to take a quick jump and settle her nicely. However, the early pace was very fast and his filly was drawn-1 and the boy had to keep pushing to maintain his position and after two furlongs she could not keep pace and started dropping back and ran a disappointing race and the Jockey informed him after the race that the filly was not holding the bit. After that he gave her a gap of three weeks and then accepted with her in Race No.263 over 1400 metres as he wanted to see how she would perform over this distance. This time he put up Jockey Dashrath Singh and told him that the filly does not have early speed and try to settle her early part and to do his best in the straight and he was surprised with the win. He said that the filly had worked very well with Jockey S.Kapoor in her last work out and on the basis of that work out, he only gave her a place chance. He said that even Jockey Dashrath Singh gave him the feed back that early part the filly was not holding the bit and it was only when he switched her to the outside in the straight that she caught hold of the bit and responded well.

After viewing the video recording of all the races and scrutinizing the betting sheets, the explanation tendered by Trainer Sanjay Kolse was noted.
