RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “RETAINED ASSET” IN RACE NO. 4 – THE ASTRAL FLASH PLATE RUN ON 17th NOVEMBER, 2019:

Trainer Adhirajsingh Jodha and App. Malam Singh were questioned in the above connection. Trainer Adhirajsingh Jodha stated that he had instructed the Apprentice to take a jump and try to sit mid bunch as he tends to get keen if urged. App. Malam Singh stated he was instructed to sit 1st, 2nd or 3rd but to do so without urging too much as the gelding tends to get keen. Trainer Adhirajsingh Jodha stated that he did not ask the Apprentice to go to the front but rather asked him to ride under cover. He added that the gelding was returning from a set back. To a specific question, Trainer Jodha stated that he did not complain against the Apprentice for failing to ride as per instructions as the Apprentice was recently back in the saddle after recovering from a fall.

Having heard the submissions made and viewing the video recording of the race,  the Stipendiary Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Apprentice Malam Singh and decided to suspend his Apprentice Jockey’s licence for two race days i.e. from 16th January, 2020 to 18th January, 2020/- (both days inclusive) for indifferent riding. In that, he had ridden contrary to the Trainer’s instructions and his riding effort in the straight was found wanting. Further, the Stipendiary Stewards were also not entirely satisfied with the explanation tendered by Trainer Adhirajsingh Jodha, however they decided to give him the benefit of the doubt for the charge of tacit approval.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “RON” IN RACE NO. 6 – THE RAZA ALI PLATE RUN ON 17th NOVEMBER, 2019:

Trainer Adhirajsingh Jodha and Jockey S. S. Baria were questioned in the above connection. Trainer Jodha stated that this horse was slowly off in its last outing and though he had given him enough gate practice, however, considering that this was a large field and he was drawn-1 and there were 15 other horses to be loaded after the gelding, he expected him to behave in a similar manner this time also, hence, he had instructed the Jockey to take a jump and position himself wherever possible since he wanted the Jockey to give the gelding a chance and to pull him out in the straight because he gallops well from the outside.  Jockey S. S. Baria confirmed the instructions. On being asked about his observations, Trainer Jodha stated that the gelding was slowly off and trailing the field and after the race the Jockey informed him that the gelding was switching off on the railing and the moment he switched him on the outside passing the 4 furlongs, he started moving well and in the straight he had ridden out the horse and he was finishing on. He added that the Jockey felt that 7 furlongs race would suit the gelding.

Having heard the submissions made and viewing the video recording of the race,  the Stipendiary Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey S.S.Baria and decided to suspend his Jockey’s licence for two race days i.e. from 16th January, 2020 to 18th January, 2020/- (both days inclusive) for indifferent riding wherein his riding effort in the straight was found wanting.  Further, the Stipendiary Stewards were also not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Trainer Adhirajsingh Jodha and held the view that the Apprentice would not have ridden in this manner unless he had the Trainer’s tacit approval, therefore, they decided to fine him a sum of Rs.10,000/-.
