RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “STAR” IN RACE NO. 356 THE TRAINERS’ TROPHY (DIV-I) RUN ON 25th APRIL, 2015 DURING THE MUMBAI MEETING 2014-2015.

When questioned, after the said race on 25th April 2015, Trainer Narendra Lagad had expressed his dissatisfaction with the Jockey’s riding on “STAR”. However since Jockey S. K. Jadhav was unavailable for questioning at the said time or during the entire Pune Season 2015, the enquiry could not be concluded.

Jockey S. K. Jadhav made himself available for questioning during the current Mumbai Meeting. The video of the race was viewed in the presence of the Trainer and the Jockey and on being questioned with regard to his riding efforts on “STAR”, Jockey S. K. Jadhav accepted that he had faulted in his judgment and his handling of the gelding does appear feeble.

On being asked the reason for the choice of Jockey, Trainer Lagad stated that he, at the time did not think much of the gelding and since the boy works for him he gave him the ride.

Taking into consideration the submissions made by the Trainer and Jockey and the fact that the gelding was at longer odds, Jockey S. K. Jadhav was suspended w.e.f. 6th February, 2016 to 20th February, 2016 (both days inclusive) for not making sufficient effort on his mount and has been warned for future. Further, Jockey S. K. Jadhav was severely cautioned for not making himself available for the enquiry for such a long period of time.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE COMPARATIVE PERFORMANCE OF “AZADEGAN” IN RACE NO. 80 - THE POLISH PATRIOT PLATE (DIV-I) RUN ON 26th DECEMBER, 2015 WHICH THE GELDING WON AS COMPARED TO ITS RUN IN RACE NO.28 ON 29TH NOVEMBER, 2015 WHERE HE WAS UNPLACED:

Trainer Faisal A. Abbas and Apprentice G. Amit were questioned in the above connection. The Trainer stated that between the gelding’s previous outing and the race in question there was a common horse, “COMMITMENT”   and as per his observation, if the said common horse had not hung out in the straight he would have probably beaten his charge. Further, AZADEGAN is a dry coated horse and was found to be in distress after his previous outing, which was approximately a month prior. The gap of one month and the relatively cooler climate were the Trainer’s reasoning for the gelding’s improved performance.

While the explanation tendered by Trainer Abbas was noted, it was pointed out to him that despite the factors stated by him the improvement in the gelding’s performance was immense and cannot be overlooked. Therefore it was decided to fine Trainer Faisal A. Abbas a sum of only Rs.10,000/- for the comparative performance of his horse and he was asked to be more careful in the future.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “NEVER SAY NEVER” IN RACE NO. 82 - THE WHITE METAL PLATE: (ABOUT) 1000 METRES RUN ON 26th DECEMBER, 2015.

Trainer Nirad Karanjawala and Jockey S.  Mosin were questioned in the above connection. The Trainer stated that he had instructed the Jockey to take a good jump and if he found himself in the front, he should make his own running. Jockey S. Mosin confirmed the instructions. Trainer Karanjawala further stated that after the race the Jockey had informed him that the filly showed no speed. However the Trainer felt the Jockey had made a mistake in the straight by using the whip in the left hand due to which the filly ducked-in losing considerable ground. To a specific question the Trainer stated that since the Jockey works his horses he chose to give him this ride.

After deliberation on the submissions made and keeping in mind that this was the filly’s first outing, Jockey S. Mosin was given the benefit of the doubt for his riding.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE COMPARATIVE PERFORMANCE OF “ALLEGIANCE” IN RACE NO. 98 - THE MASEEHA PLATE, RUN ON 31st DECEMBER, 2015 WHICH THE GELDING WON AS COMPARED TO ITS PREVIOUS RUN IN RACE NO.67 ON 17TH DECEMBER, 2015 WHERE HE WAS UNPLACED

Trainer Narendra Lagad was questioned in the above connection. Trainer Lagad stated that he himself was surprised with the gelding’s performance and accepted that his charge has won in a short span of time for which he has no plausible explanation.

While acknowledging Trainer Narendra Lagad’s straightforwardness, it was decided to fine him a sum of Rs. 10,000/- for breach of the Calendar Notification Re : Comparative performance of Horses winning within a short span of time”.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “JAPANESE” IN RACE NO. 101 THE RAO SAHEB D. K. PARKAR TROPHY (DIV-I), RUN ON 31st DECEMBER, 2015 :

Trainer Adhirajsingh Jodha and Jockey R. Vaibhav were questioned in the above connection. Trainer Adhirajsingh Jodha stated that he had instructed the Jockey to go to the front or sit in a striking position, preferably 2nd or 3rd.  The Jockey confirmed the instructions and stated that despite his urgings after the start, the gelding could not acquire a forward position. Thereafter, turning for home the gelding lugged in.

When questioned as to why the gelding was sparingly raced, Tr. Adhirajsingh Jodha replied that after his first race in Pune the gelding had suffered a setback and this was his first run after that. To a specific question, he stated that the gelding returned sound after the race.

Taking into consideration the submissions made and the fact that there was no drift in odds and also that the gelding is relatively inexperienced, the enquiry was closed.

RE:ENQUIRY INTO THE POOR PERFORMANCE OF “SHANIA” IN RACE NO.107 - THE SQUANDERER DOUBLE STAKES, RUN ON 3RD JANUARY, 2016:

Trainer Nirad Karanjawala and Jockey S. Zervan were questioned in the above connection. The video of Race No.107 was viewed and when questioned, Trainer Nirad Karanjawala stated that his instructions to the Jockey were to jump out and sit in a box seat, coming into the straight to pull her out and to do his best because the filly is not happy galloping on the rails.

The video of the previous runs as also the subsequent run of the filly were viewed. Thereafter, to a specific question, the Trainer stated that he was not complaining but was unhappy with the positioning of the filly and after the race Jockey S. Zervan had told him that the filly could not pace with the other runners.

Jockey S. Zervan confirmed the instructions and stated that he too was unhappy with his positioning of the filly and felt that he should have scrubbed more to get into position. Also, he would have preferred to make his run along the rails considering he was sitting along the inside but he was specifically instructed to pull her out in the straight as the filly likes to gallop on the outside, hence he kept pulling the filly out the entire way but the filly kept lugging in. To a specific question, the Jockey stated that soon after the start he has made an effort to get into position but the filly did not respond. He added that in her subsequent run, the filly was ridden by Jockey Neeraj Rawal where he had to get into the filly soon after the start and had even given her a couple of backhanders to get her going.

After hearing the submissions made, and watching the replays of the race in question and also the previous and subsequent run of the filly, no action has been initiated in the matter. However, Jockey S. Zervan was cautioned and asked to make more efforts to follow his riding instructions in the future.

RE:ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND  RIDING OF “LAS SALINAS” IN RACE NO.109-THE BLUE RIBBON PLATE , RUN ON THURSDAY 7th  JANUARY  2016.

Trainer D. J. Surti and Jockey Zameer Sayyed were questioned in the above connection. The video of the race was viewed and when questioned, the Trainer stated that his instructions to the Jockey were to jump out and do his best. To a specific question, the Trainer stated that in his opinion Jockey Zameer Sayyed, who has just come back after a injury, is still not very confident and has lost his nerve. Jockey Zameer Sayyed confirmed the instructions and stated that he was riding after a long gap and admitted that he had made a mistake.

After considering the submissions made and keeping in mind that the mare was at longer odds, no action has been initiated, however, the Trainer was informed that the enquiry was being kept open and a close watch will be kept on the future runs of the mare. Further, the Trainer was told that in view of his statement that the Jockey has lost his nerve, it would be in the best interest of both that he should be more judicious in the choice of his Jockeys in the future.

RE:ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND  RIDING OF “MAGNOLIA” IN RACE NO.116-THE PLEASURE HUNT PLATE , RUN ON THURSDAY 7th  JANUARY  2016.

Trainer Vishal Gaikwad and Jockey N. S. Parmar were questioned in the above connection. Jockey N. S. Parmar stated that he was instructed to take a good jump and sit in 5th / 6th position, keep the filly covered and to do his best in the straight. Trainer Vishal Gaikwad confirmed the instructions. The video of the race was viewed and thereafter to a specific question, the Trainer stated that after the race the Jockey had informed him that the filly had not taken an even jump due to which he could not sit as instructed and thereafter in the straight he had received a check passing 150 metres. Trainer Vishal Gaikwad also stated that this was only the second run of the filly.

The video of the race was viewed again and thereafter Jockey N. S. Parmar stated that the filly was fractious inside the stalls, hence he had not put pressure on her, therefore she had not jumped out on an even keel and threw her head up. To a specific question, the Jockey stated that coming into the straight there was a clear run on the inside and therefore he had elected to make his run from there but no sooner the filly started galloping, the front horse weakened and dropped back, due to which he was blocked and did not have a clear run and had to check his mount and shift out, despite which the filly has run well.

After hearing the submissions made and watching the replay and also considering that this was only the second run of the filly, the enquiry was closed.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE COMPARATIVE PERFORMANCE OF “ESSENCE OF LOVE” IN RACE NO.116 - THE PLEASURE HUNT PLATE, RUN ON THURSDAY 7th  JANUARY  2016 WHICH THE GELDING WON AS COMPARED TO ITS PREVIOUS RUN IN RACE NO.75 – THE P.M.RUNGTA GOLDEN SPRINT STAKES,  RUN ON 20TH DECEMBER, 2015 WHERE HE WAS UNPLACED :

Trainer B. Prakash was questioned in the above connection. He stated that in the previous run i.e. Race No.75, the gelding raced with younger horses in a higher class over 1200 Metres whereas the gelding won in Race No.116 over 1400 Metres in a lower class. Further, in the previous run, the gelding has finished about 4 lengths from the second horse and this time out he had claimed 5 kgs allowance. To a specific question, he stated that he had not fancied the gelding.

After going through the Work Log and the Medical Log Books, viewing both the races and after going through the betting sheets which did not reflect any betting and considering that the horse was only 4 lengths from the second placed horse in Race No.75, the explanation tendered by Trainer B. Prakash was noted.

RE:ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND  RIDING OF “PADMAKOSA” IN RACE NO.116 - THE PLEASURE HUNT PLATE, RUN ON THURSDAY, 7th  JANUARY  2016:

Trainer Subhag Singh and Jockey T. S. Jodha were questioned in the above connection. The Trainer stated that his instructions to the Jockey were to take a good jump and go to the front and to do his best and hope no one comes from behind because when someone challenges, the mare gives up and starts dropping back. To a specific question, the Trainer stated that after the race the Jockey had reported that turning for home the mare was spent and was dropping back and also told him to race her in a 5 or 6 furlongs. To another question, the Trainer stated that he has been running the mare in races over 5 and 6 furlongs and last year the mare had won a 5 furlong race and the reason to run her in a 7 furlong race was because in a 5 furlong race the mare was not getting a chance to hit the front.

Jockey T. S. Jodha confirmed the instructions and stated that the mare was a spent force on turning for home and was going nowhere and he had informed the Trainer to run her over 5 furlongs.

After hearing the submissions made and viewing the replay of the race and keeping in mind that the mare was at longer odds and finished many lengths behind, no action has been initiated in the matter. However, Jockey T.S.Jodha was asked to be more vigorous in his riding efforts in the future.
