ADDITIONAL REPORTS :
RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “DAZZLING DANCER” IN RACE NO.40 – THE SECRET STAR PLATE (1200 METRES) – RUN ON 8th DECEMBER, 2016 :
Trainer Rehanullah Khan and Jockey A. Sandesh were questioned in the above connection. The video of the race was viewed and when questioned, Jockey A. Sandesh said that he had won on this horse earlier during the previous Mumbai Season and knew the horse. He said that the horse was hanging-in in the last part and he had used the whip three times and had done his best.
The video of the race was viewed again and it was pointed out to Jockey A. Sandesh that he had given backhanders and he was not vigorous in his riding effort in the last part. Jockey A. Sandesh reiterated that the horse was hanging in and he had done his best. He said that the horse has hung-in in the past as well.
The video of Race No.149 run during the Pune Meeting 2016, when the horse was ridden by Jockey A. Sandesh and finished second, was viewed and it was pointed out to Jockey A. Sandesh that in this race he had used the whip in forehand position and was much more vigorous in his riding effort.
Thereafter, the winning ride of Jockey A. Sandesh on DAZZLING DANCER, i.e. Race No.282 run during the Mumbai Meeting 2015/16, was viewed and it was pointed out to Jockey A. Sandesh that even though the horse hung-in in this race, he was much more vigorous in his riding effort.
When questioned, Trainer Rehanullah Khan said that he had instructed the Jockey to settle the mare in 3rd/4th position and to ride her out in the straight. When asked about his observation of the race, he said that DAZZLING DANCER had lost to BEACH GAME who was a better horse and a form horse. When specifically asked whether he was satisfied with the Jockey’s riding in the last 100 metres, he said that the horse was hanging-in in the last part and he was satisfied with the Jockey’s riding.
Tr. Rehanullah Khan was informed that even conceding that the horse hung-in in the last part, however, Jockey A. Sandesh was a champion Jockey and was capable of far more stronger finish as compared to his riding in this race. Trainer Rehanullah Khan reiterated that he was satisfied with the Jockey’s riding.
Having considered the submissions made and having viewed the video of the race in question as also the horse’s two previous races i.e. Race No.149 run during the Pune Meeting 2016 and Race No.282 run during the Mumbai Meeting 2015/16, the Stipendiary Stewards held the view that although the horse did hang-in in the straight, however, Jockey A. Sandesh was capable of a far more stronger finish as compared to his finish in the race in question and also he had just given a few feeble backhanders. As such, the matter was reported to the Stewards for such action as deem fit.
The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Sunday, 18th December, 2016 considered the above report and having heard Trainer Rehanullah Khan and Jockey A. Sandesh and having viewed the video of the race in question, as also the horse’s previous race i.e. Race No.149 run during the Pune Meeting 2016, decided to give Jockey A. Sandesh the benefit of the doubt.
