ADDITIONAL REPORTS :
RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “UNTITLED” IN RACE NO.74 – THE DAMODARDAS C.SHAH TROPHY (DIV.I) RUN ON 30TH DECEMBER, 2018:
The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer H.J.Antia and Jockey Hanumant Singh in the above connection.
The video tape recording of Race No.74 was viewed and when asked to explain his riding effort in the straight, Jockey Hanumant Singh said that he had ridden out the horse to the best of his ability and this was the best he could ride.
When asked for his observation of the race, Trainer H.J.Antia said that the horse was at longer odds and he felt that this was the best the Jockey can ride. To another query, Trainer H.J.Antia said that he would race the horse after a gap of three weeks probably over 1400 metres in the same class or over 1200 metres in the higher class.
Having heard the submissions made and having viewed the video recording of the race, the Stipendiary Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by the Trainer and Jockey. However, considering that the horse was at longer odds, they decided to :
a) to suspend Jockey Hanumant Singh from riding in races for 2 Race Days i.e. from 2nd February, 2019 to 3rd February, 2019 (both days inclusive) for injudicious riding (permitted to ride work/mock race);
b) to fine Trainer H.J.Antia a sum of Rs.10,000/- for tacit approval.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “RIQUEWIHR” (APP.H.ZEESHAN) IN RACE NO.82 – THE P.D. BOLTON TROPHY - RUN ON 6TH JANUARY, 2019 :
The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer P.Shroff and Apprentice H.Zeeshan in the above connection. Apprentice H.Zeeshan said that his instructions were to sit in 2nd/3rd/4th position and to do his best. He said that the filly jumped out smart and he thought he would comfortably sit in 3rd position but when he settled her, the filly dropped and lost position and thereafter did not pick up.
Trainer P.Shroff was informed that the odds taken from Mysore Race Club/Delhi Race Club were as follows – opening odds - 2 ½ . middle odds – 4 ¾; closing odds – 5 ¼.
The video recording of Race No.82 was viewed and it was pointed out to App.H.Zeeshan that the filly took a good jump and he had a clear gap, however, he has allowed the filly to drop back for no apparent reason and has made no effort to keep his position.
The video recording of the filly’s previous run i.e. Race No.49 was viewed.
Trainer P.Shroff reminded App.H.Zeeshan that they had discussed before the race that WILD FIRE is a fast filly and will go to the front and he should sit close. To a specific question, Trainer P.Shroff said that the Jockey has lost the race in the early part where he dropped back.
Having heard the submissions made and viewing the video recording of the race, the Stipendiary Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Apprentice H.Zeeshan and decided to suspend his Apprentice Jockey’s license for 4 Race Days i.e. from 2nd February, 2019 to 15th February, 2019 (both days inclusive) (permitted to ride work/mock race) for failing to follow the Trainer’s instructions and cautioned Trainer P.Shroff for failing to report the same.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE LOSS OF WHIP BY JOCKEY AKSHAY ON HIS MOUNT “JACK FROST” IN RACE NO. 29 – THE DASHMESH STUD A C ARDESHIR TROPHY ( GR. 3) - RUN ON 2ND DECEMBER 2018 :
After JACK FROST won in Race No. 65 run on 23rd December 2018, the Stipendiary Stewards re-opened the enquiry into the whip loss by Jockey Akshay on JACK FROST in the previous race i.e. Race No. 29 run on 2nd December 2018. After viewing the race from all angles (blow up picture), the Stipendiary Stewards felt that Jockey Akshay had deliberately dropped the whip thereby not giving the horse the best chance in the race. Therefore, they reported Trainer Vinesh and Jockey Akshay for unsatisfactory running and riding of JACK FROST in Race No. 29 run on 2nd December 2018.
The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Friday, 18th January, 2019 interviewed Trainer Vinesh and Jockey Akshay who were accompanied by their Spokesman, Mr.Peter Deubet, and having heard them and having viewed the video recording of Race No.29 and Race No.65 as also the blow up video of the incident of whip fall in normal as well as slow motion, decided to give them the benefit of the doubt.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “KINGSMAN” (P.S.CHOUHAN) IN RACE NO.26 – THE ARISTOS PLATE - RUN ON 2ND DECEMBER, 2018 :
Trainer Deepesh Narredu and Jockey P.S.Chouhan were requested to appear before the Stipendiary Stewards on 17th December, 2018 in the above connection. However, Trainer Deepesh Narredu informed this office via email dated 14th December, 2018 that he would not be able to attend the enquiry on 17th December, 2018 since he was in Hyderabad for the 2000 Guineas.
Jockey P.S.Chouhan was questioned on 17th December, 2018 in the above connection. He said that the instructions were given by the owner i.e. to sit in the mid bunch, not to show the horse daylight in the early part of the race and coming into the straight to pull him out and do his best. He said that the horse did not spurt and was taking time to get going, may be because he was running in a short span of time. He said that in the straight the front horse spurted and took a break of 5 to 6 lengths and when he asked his horse for an effort he was travelling at the same pace, hence he gave him 3 to 4 backhanders but the gelding did not show improvement, therefore, he put away his whip and gathered him and rode out hands and heels. He felt that his horse was moving at the same pace but the eventual winner was stopping so it looked as though he has gained on him. He reiterated that in the last furlong he has given the horse a couple of cracks but he stayed there and there.
The video recording of Race No.26 was viewed and it was pointed out to Jockey P.S.Chouhan that whilst the winner was dropping but it was not that his mount was not improving as it is evident that he has gained much ground on the winner as compared to the other runners in the race. Jockey P.S.Chouhan reiterated that he felt that his mount was there and there and the front horse was stopping. He said that after the first run, he expected the trainer to give some time, however, as this was an age group race he ran the horse and according to him the horse needs time. In fact when he worked the horse in Pune and they wanted to run him, he had informed the owner that the horse needs time. He said that after shifting to Mumbai he did not work the horse. To another query, Jockey P.S.Chouhan said that 1400 /1600 metres would be the ideal trip for this horse because when you ask him in the early part he does not like that.
Trainer Deepesh Narredu and Jockey P.S.Chouhan were questioned together on 11th January, 2019. Jockey P.S.Chouhan’s statement made before the Stipes on 17th December, 2018 was played out to Trainer Deepesh Narredu.
It was clarified to both the professionals that whilst the Stipes had recorded the statement of Jockey P.S.Chouhan earlier, however, in view of the practice of both professionals being questioned together, they were both being questioned on this day.
Thereafter, on being questioned, Trainer Deepesh Narredu said that he ran the horse the first time on 18th November, 2018 and thereafter on 2nd December, 2018 which was the second run of his life while he was about to turn 5-years-old and whatever Jockey P.S.Chouhan has said was true as he had ridden the horse. To a specific question, Trainer Deepesh Narredu said that after the second run on 2nd December, 2018 they gave the horse time and then raced him on 6th January, 2019.
Jockey P.S.Chouhan clarified that the time gap between the first two races was short and he had suggested not to race him but the owner was interested to race the horse on 2nd December, 2018 as it was an age group race, hence they raced him
The video recording of Race No.26 was viewed in the presence of the Trainer and Jockey.
On studying the racing record, it was noticed that KINGSMAN had raced in Race No.26 after a gap of 13 days from the first run and his third run was after a gap of 1 month. Jockey P.S.Chouhan said that the gap of one month may have helped the horse.
Trainer Deepesh Narredu said that he had raced the horse on 2nd December, 2018 since it was an age group race and also his owners wanted to race the horse.
To another query, Jockey P.S.Chouhan said that he had not discussed the running of the horse after his first run but when he saw that the horse was accepted in the race in question, he had requested the owner for the ride as it was a 1400 metres race and he felt it would be the right distance for the horse. Trainer Deepesh Narredu confirmed this statement.
The video recording of Race No.26 (in the straight) was viewed and it was pointed out that the Stipes feel that if Jockey P.S.Chouhan had changed his whip hand in the last 150 metres a little earlier than he did, it would have made the difference even more so after viewing the next race. Jockey P.S.Chouhan said that he has given three cracks but the horse did not quicken, he did not respond, hence he put away his whip and gone hands and heels and the horse really moved and was covering ground and he has picked up the stick from the right only to help correct him and keep him away from the other horse as he was responding to hands and heels.
Having heard the submissions made and viewing the video recording of the race, and keeping in mind that the gelding was the favourite, the Stipendiary Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey P.S.Chouhan, especially his riding in the final stages of the race and reported the matter to the Stewards for such action as they deem fit.
The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Friday, 18th January, 2019 interviewed Trainer Deepesh Narredu and Jockey P.S.Chouhan in the above connection and having heard them and having viewed the video recording of the race in question as also the subsequent winning race of KINGSMAN i.e. Race No.84, the Stewards decided to give Jockey P.S.Chouhan the benefit of the doubt in this case.
