RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING OF RACE NO.45 – THE MAYOR’S TROPHY RUN ON 5TH DECEMBER, 2013

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer H.J.Antia and Jockey S.P.Ranjane regarding the running and riding of MOUNTAIN SONG in the above race. Trainer Antia stated that he had instructed the Jockey to hit the front and if he cannot do so, then to sit in a forward position and to do his best. He said that the Jockey had taken a long lead and had misjudged the race. Jockey S.P.Ranjane confirmed the instructions. He said that he was drawn on the outside and in order to be in a forward position, he had pushed the horse whereby the horse got keen and took a long lead. He said that when he reached the bend, he realized that he had taken a long lead and therefore he sat with the horse.

Trainer Rehanullah Khan and Jockey A.Sandesh were questioned regarding the running and riding of AWESOME SMILE.  The Trainer stated that he had instructed the Jockey to take a good jump and settle the horse in mid bunch, gradually improve and to do his best. He said that the horse jumped out well but could not keep pace. When questioned regarding the drift in the odds, Trainer Rehanullah Khan said that the horse had earlier won two races over 1400 metres, however, he had also run a decent race over 1200 metres in Pune and keeping that in mind he had accepted  to race the horse in this 1200 metres race which was restricted for horses 5 years old and over and had fancied the horse. He said that betting had come on to the winner and that could be the reason for the drift in the odds on his horse.  Jockey A.Sandesh confirmed the instructions and added that since the horse did not have early speed he had to use the whip to stay with the field and the horse started showing some improvement from the bend, hence he kept the horse on the outside to get a clear run and did his best.

Trainer Narendra Lagad and App.B.Nikhil were questioned regarding the running and riding of TITLEIST. The Trainer stated that he had instructed the Jockey to sit in 2nd/3rd position and to do his best. He said that the Jockey had followed the instructions and had done his best and he was satisfied with the Jockey’s riding. App.B.Nikhil confirmed the instructions and added that MOUNTAIN SONG took the lead and he settled the horse in 2nd position and did his best.

Trainer Narendra Lagad and Jockey Shrikant Kamble were questioned regarding the running and riding of GLORIA. The Trainer stated that he had instructed the Jockey to be in a forward position and to do his best. He said that he had fancied the horse and he was satisfied with the Jockey’s riding.  Jockey Shrikant Kamble confirmed the instructions and stated that the horse jumped out well but did not have enough speed to keep pace, however he had done his best.

The matter was reported to the Stewards for such action as deemed fit.

The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Saturday, 18th January, 2014 considered the above report and having viewed the video recording of the race, decided that no action was called for in the matter.
