ADDITIONAL REPORT:

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE OWNERSHIP CREDENTIALS OF CH M 5 “NAIROBI” OWNER MR. AMARJEET SINGH NARULA AND UNDER THE CHARGE OF TRAINER NIRAD KARANJAWALA AND INDIRECT TRAINING OF THE HORSE BY JOCKEY S. G. PRASAD:

In connection with the captioned subject, the Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Thursday, 11th January 2024, having considered all the papers and proceedings before them and having heard the submissions made by Mr. Amarjeet Singh Narula, Trainer Nirad Karanjawala and Jockey S.G. Prasad in conjunction with the Stipendiary Stewards, decided as follows.

The Stewards of the Club considered that Mr. Amarjeet Singh Narula was forthcoming during the enquiry and provided all the information and admitted to the facts of the case with the reason for giving the horse to Jockey S.G .Prasad who had asked for the horse and the circumstances that led to the horse being given to Trainer Nirad Karanjawala as against his will to give it to his usual Trainers in Western India and that he had expressed his ignorance and regret for the above matter hence, the Chairman conveyed to him that the Stewards have decided not to initiate any action but have expressed their disappointment on the whole incident and gave him a stern warning for the future and informed him that on a repetition of a similar incident, his ownership could be withdrawn.

With regards to Trainer Nirad Karanjawala, the Stewards of the Club concluded that from all the available and circumstantial evidence and the sequence of events he had once again as a licenced individual misconducted himself by showing no regard to the Rules and the condition of his licence, in that;

1.         During the enquiry, it has been unequivocally proven that the owner entrusted the horse to Jockey S.G. Prasad, who subsequently selected Mr. Nirad Karanjawala as the trainer. Additionally, it was evident that the owner directly interacted with Jockey S.G. Prasad, who in turn directly engaged with the Syce/Jamadar/Permission boy, thereby conclusively demonstrating that he had little or no involvement in the training of the horse.

2.         It was also established that Trainer Nirad Karanjawala’s most trustworthy and dependable employee Mr. Mahindra Singh was engaging in direct communication with Jockey S.G. Prasad relating to all aspects of training the horse, as clearly evident from the messages exchanged between them on WhatsApp during this inquiry.

3.         Moreover, the absence of any dealings including financial between Trainer Nirad Karanjawala and the owner clearly corroborates the above findings. The only interactions he had were limited to thanking the owner for giving him the horse and subsequently when the horse won the second time (After the owner and jockey had fallout).

4.         The presence of Jockey S.G. Prasad's initials on NAIROBI's feed bin dispels any uncertainties, thus confirming that the horse was indeed unauthorizedly being trained by Jockey S.G. Prasad.

5.         Allowing Jockey S.G. Prasad to dictate the daily routine of the horse NAIROBI constitutes a breach of the foundational principles of horse racing wherein Trainer Nirad Karanjawala neglected his duty as a Trainer, defined by the Rules of Racing, under which a trainer is a person licenced by the Stewards of the Club to train race horses. This responsibility cannot be delegated to an unauthorized person.

6.         In addition to the above mentioned issues, the lamentable state of Trainer Nirad Karanjawala’s stable, feed room, and office which were not only unclean and disorderly but also strewn with empty alcohol bottles thereby indicating that he lacked control over his stables.

7.         The Stewards also considered Trainer Nirad Karanjawala’s past record, noting that he had been previously found guilty on two occasions for proxy training horses under the responsibility of other trainers in addition to various other serious infringements and misconduct.

The Stewards of the Club therefore decided to withdraw Mr. Nirad Karanjawala’s Trainers licence for a period of 3 years commencing from 26th January 2024 upto the end of Mumbai Meeting 2023/24 and thereafter should he apply for a Trainers licence, the same shall not be considered upto and including 25th January 2027.

All disabilities applicable to a disqualified / warned off person will be applicable to Trainer Nirad Karanjawala during the aforesaid period.

Further, with regards to Jockey S. G. Prasad, the Stewards of the Club concluded that from all the available circumstantial evidence and the sequence of events he had as a licenced individual misconducted himself and also failed in his capacity as professional Jockey by showing no regard to the Rules and the condition of his licence, in that;

1.         During the enquiry, it was confirmed that Jockey S. G. Prasad not only asked the owner for horses to train at Western India but also specifically chose the horse NAIROBI. Furthermore, despite the owner's preference to give the horse to his trainers, namely Mr. Faisal A. Abbas or Late Altaf Hussain, he insisted on it being given to Mr. Nirad Karanjawala.

2.         The unprecedented communication between Jockey S. G. Prasad and Mr. Mahendra Singh regarding various aspects of training a horse was clearly evident in the WhatsApp messages exchanged between the two of them.

3.         It is clear that Jockey S. G. Prasad had direct communication with the owner and engaged directly with the Syce/Jamadar/Permission boy. By doing so, he circumvented the trainer, ensuring that he had full control over all aspects of the horse in training.

4.         Moreover, Jockey S. G. Prasad’’s dealings whether financial or related to the training and well-being of the horse between him and the owner clearly corroborates the findings.

5.         The presence of Jockey S. G. Prasad’s initials (SGP) on NAIROBI's feed bin dispels any uncertainties, thus confirming that the horse was indeed under his unauthorized training.

6.         By dictating the daily routine of the horse, NAIROBI and by-passing the trainer Jockey S. G. Prasad had breached the foundational principles of horse racing.

7.         Jockey S. G. Prasad did not possess a Trainer's License in accordance with the Rules of the Club, yet he was unauthorizedly overseeing all facets of training for the horse NAIROBI. Despite his Jockey's Licence, which permitted him solely to ride, he exceeded his authorized role.

8.         By Jockey S. G. Prasad’s aforesaid acts, he had infringed the provisions of his Jockeys Licence issued by the Stewards of the Club.

The Stewards of the Club therefore decided to withdraw Mr. S. G. Prasad’s Jockeys licence for a period of 3 years commencing from 26th January 2024 upto the end of Mumbai Meeting 2023/24 and thereafter should he apply for a Jockeys licence, the same shall not be considered upto and including 25th January 2027.

All disabilities applicable to a disqualified / warned off person will be applicable to Jockey S. G. Prasad during the aforesaid period.

In connection with the captioned subject, the Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Tuesday, 9th January 2024, having considered all the papers and proceedings before them and having heard the submissions made by Mr. Prabhu Naidu as also the Stipendiary Stewards and having deliberated in the matter at length, the Stewards had taken into account his past record regarding his behaviour and his psychological condition as he had repeatedly breached the Rules of Racing by bringing in unauthorised people and blatantly misusing a senior Official’s name coupled with the fact that he had failed to comply with the established norms for granting of  a Jockey's licence despite ample opportunities given to him, the Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Mr. Prabhu Naidu and decided to withdraw his Jockey's licence with immediate effect.
