RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “ZANTHOS” IN RACE NO.234 – THE RONALDO PLATE (DIV.II) (1400 METRES) RUN ON THURSDAY, 7TH MARCH, 2013 :
The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Imtiaz A.Sait and Jockey Daniel M.Grant in the above connection. Trainer Imtiaz A.Sait said that Jockey Daniel M.Grant has ridden this horse thrice before and knows the horse, hence he had told him to ride his own race. Jockey Daniel M.Grant confirmed the instructions and added that he had informed Trainer Imtiaz A.Sait that last time when he hit the front, the horse stopped in the last part, therefore, this time he would take his time, settle the horse in mid bunch and ride his race from there.
The video recording of the race was viewed and when asked for his observation, Trainer Imtiaz A.Sait said that previously ZANTHOS used to run with Sheep Skin cheek pieces but after his last run in Race No.175, Jockey Daniel M.Grant had suggested to use Blinkers as she stopped after hitting the front. Tr.Sait said that in the race in question, ZANTHOS ran with Blinkers for the first time and was keen and he ran all over the place and gave the Jockey no chance to settle him in any part of the race. He said that coming into the straight there was a wall of horses in front and also there was a horse on his outside, hence the Jockey took the inner route but his run was hampered whereby the Jockey had to pull him out again and was unlucky to get beat.
Jockey Daniel M.Grant said that this was a hard race with a lot of hampering in the race and horses were going in and out and he had also lodged an objection as he felt he was impeded by the winner. He said that despite the interference, he had done well to be in the fighting line.
The video recording of the race was again viewed and it was pointed out to Jockey Daniel M.Grant that approaching 400 metres he was travelling four to five horses off the fence and there were only two horses on his outside, hence why did he not make his move from the outside instead of going in. Jockey Daniel M.Grant said that it was a split second decision, DAREDEVIL was on his outside at that stage and if he had chosen to make his move from the outside, he would have had to come around DAREDEVIL, hence he took the inner route as he had a gap to go through and would have still won the race but the horse along the rails moved out and forced the other horses to move out and closed the gap, hence he had to pull the horse out again and despite this he still managed to be in the fighting line. Trainer Imtiaz A.Sait concurred with the Jockey’s view and added that even after being blocked on the inside, the Jockey had pulled the horse out and made all out efforts to win but was unlucky to get beat. He said that he was satisfied with the Jockey’s riding.
To a further question, Trainer Imtiaz A.Sait said that ZANTHOS has his share of problems but he is racing sound. He said that the horse had bled in the previous race i.e. Race No.175 and he is still a maiden.
The matter was reported to the Stewards for such action as deemed fit.
The Stewards at their meeting held on Sunday, 17th March, 2013 interviewed Trainer Imtiaz A.Sait and Jockey Daniel M.Grant in the above connection and having heard them and viewing the video recording of the race, decided that no action was called for in the matter.

The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Sunday, 17th March, 2013 considered Appeal dated 14th March, 2013 from Trainer Bezan Chenoy in the above connection and interviewed him in the above connection. Trainer Bezan Chenoy explained that he had taken all measures to ensure that the saddle was tied properly and the saddle slip was due to the horse being very keen and the Jockey trying to hold him back. The Stewards having heard the submissions made and having viewed the video recording of the race, decided to give Trainer Bezan Chenoy the benefit of the doubt and allowed his appeal.

RE : MERCY PETITION FROM MR.NIRAD KARANJAWALA IN RESPECT OF PUNISHMENT IMPOSED ON HIM BY THE STEWARDS OF THE CLUB I.E. NOT TO GRANT HIM A TRAINER’S LICENSE, IF HE APPLIED FOR ONE, TILL 20TH FEBRUARY, 2014 – ENQUIRY INTO THE COMPLAINT LODGED BY MR.KHUSHRO K.JALNAWALA AGAINST MR.NIRAD KARANJAWALA/TRAINER JAYANTILAL K.GOR:
The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Sunday, 17th March, 2013 considered Mercy Petition dated 22nd February, 2013 from Mr.Nirad Karanjawala in the above connection and having considered all papers and proceedings and having heard Mr.Nirad Karanjawala, decided to reduce the period of his above punishment up to the end of the Mumbai Meeting 2012/13.

RE: APPEAL AGAINST THE DECISION OF THE STEWARDS OF THE CLUB IN RESPECT OF (A) SUSPENSION OF HIS APPRENTICE JOCKEY’S LICENSE WITH EFFECT FROM 21ST FEBRUARY 2013 TILL THE END OF THE MUMBAI MEETING 2012/13 AND THEREAFTER SHOULD HE APPLY FOR AN APPRENTICE JOCKEY’S LICENSE FOR THE RACING SEASON 2013/ 14, IT WOULD BE GRANTED TO HIM, HOWEVER, THE SAME WILL STAHD SUSPENDED UP TO AND INCLUSIVE OF 15TH NOVEMBER 2013 (PERMITTED TO RIDE WORK/ MOCK RACE) AND (B) IMPOSING ON HIM A SUSPENDED SENTENCE OF 1 YEAR I.E. IF HE IS AGAIN FOUND GUILTY OF A SIMILAR OFFENCE WITHIN THE NEXT 3 YEARS STARTING FROM 16TH NOVEMBER 2013 – ENQUIRY IN TO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF APPRENTICE TUSHAR NEMANE (CELSIUS) IN RACE NO 10 RUN ON 22ND NOVEMERB 2012 – APPRENTICE PRABHU NAIDU:
The Board of Appeal at its meeting held on 16th March 2013 considered the Appeal filed by Apprentice Jockey Prabhu Naidu and interviewed his, along with his Master, Trainer Altaf Hussain, and his Spokesperson, Mrs. Ayesha Hussain. Having heard the submission made, the majority of the Members of the Board felt that Apprentice Prabhu Naidu had introduced Apprentice Tushar Nemane to Mr. Amar Sahney; however, Apprentice Tushar Nemane had himself confessed that Apprentice Jockey Prabhu Naidu had no part to play in the discussions between Mr. Sahney and him (Apprentice Jockey Tushar Nemane). There is no direct evidence which was forthcoming for fraudulent practice by Apprentice Jockey Prabhu Naidu. The majority of the Members of the Board therefore felt that the punishment meted out to Apprentice Jockey Prabhu Naidu should be reduced.
In view of the above, the Board of Appeal, by majority, decided to partially allow the appeal of Apprentice Jockey Prabhu Naidu whereby his suspension which was originally up to 15th Nov ember 2013 was reduced up to 31st August 2013. However, the suspended sentence of one year imposed on him remains unchanged. The deposit was ordered to be returned.
