RE:ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “MR MORRISON”
(DRAWN.6) IN RACE NO.195-THE BOMBAY GYMKHANA TROPHY (DIV-I) (1200 METRES), RUN
ON SATURDAY 20th FEBRUARY 2016.
Trainer
Asad Siddiqui and
Apprentice S. J. Sunil were questioned in the above connection. Trainer Asad Siddiqui said keeping in
mind that in the previous run the gelding had bolted to the front with Jockey
N. S. Parmar, he had
instructed Apprentice S. J. Sunil to take a good jump and sit in second
position and to do his best. Also, before the race he had discussed the race in
question with Apprentice App. S. J. Sunil who had suggested that his stable
runner POLAR ZONE was a very fast horse and may hit the front and in view of
this he had asked App. S. J. Sunil to settle the gelding behind POLAR ZONE.
Trainer Asad Siddiqui said
that he is not satisfied with the riding efforts of the Apprentice and took
exception to his riding in the straight. When questioned, Apprentice S. J.
Sunil said that the front two runners cut a fast pace and hence he decided to
settle his mount in 3rd position. When questioned with regard to the
use of whip, Apprentice S. J. Sunil said that he had given the gelding
reminders and that he had received interference at the top of the straight and
thereafter the gelding was hanging in. The previous winning rides of Apprentice
S. J. Sunil were viewed and it was pointed out to him that he was more vigorous
in his riding effort in those races.
Trainer
Sanjay Kolse, Master of Apprentice S. J. Sunil joined
the enquiry at this stage.
Having
heard the submissions made by Trainer Asad Siddiqui and Apprentice S. J. Sunil and keeping in mind the drift in odds, wherein the morning odds of the
gelding were 2 ½, at race time it opened at 4/1 and thereafter further drifted
to 23/4 and considering that the Trainer had expressed his dissatisfaction with
the riding efforts, Apprentice S. J. Sunil was reported to the
Stewards for unsatisfactory riding on his mount.
The
Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on 17th March, 2016
interviewed Trainer Asad Siddiqui
and App. S. J. Sunil who was accompanied by his Master, Trainer Sanjay Kolse. Having heard the submissions made and having
viewed the video of the race in question and Race No.132 i.e. the previous run
of the horse as also App. S. J. Sunil’s winning ride on QUEEN CREDIBLE in Race
No.175, the Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by App.
S. J. Sunil and held him guilty of unsatisfactory riding on MR MORRISON wherein
he had not ridden out the horse vigorously in the straight. The Stewards noted
that there was a drift in the odds and Trainer Asad Siddiqui had expressed his dissatisfaction with the riding.
Therefore, the Stewards decided to suspend his Apprentice Jockey’s license w.e.f. 2nd April, 2016 to 17th April,
2016 (both days inclusive) (permitted to ride work/mock race).

RE:ENQUIRY
INTO MISCONDUCT ON THE PART OF APP. S. J. SUNIL I.E. BETTING ON RACES, PASSING
TIPS TO OWNERS AND ASKING MONEY FROM AN OWNER – ARISING OUT OF THE RUNNING
AND RIDING OF “MR MORRISON” (DRAWN.6) IN RACE NO.195-THE BOMBAY GYMKHANA
TROPHY (DIV-I) (1200 METRES), RUN ON SATURDAY 20th FEBRUARY
2016.
The
Stipendiary Stewards reported that during the course of the enquiry, App. S. J.
Sunil on being questioned, owned up to betting on races and passing tips to his
owners and asking money from an owner. Therefore, App. S. J. Sunil was reported
to the Stewards for misconduct under Rule-101(iii) of the Rules of Racing.
The Stewards of the Club at their meeting
held on 17th March, 2016 interviewed App. S. J. Sunil who was
accompanied by his Master, in the above connection and having heard them, the Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation
tendered by App. S. J. Sunil and held him guilty of misconduct under
Rule-101(iii) of the Rules of Racing, wherein he had admitted betting on races,
passing on tips to owners and that he had asked money from an owner. The
Stewards noted that his license also stands suspended up to 17th
April, 2016 for an earlier offence of unsatisfactory riding on MR MORRISON.
Therefore, for his misconduct, the Stewards decided to further suspend his
Apprentice Jockey’s license w.e.f. 18th
April, 2016 till the end of the Mumbai Meeting 2015/16. Thereafter, if he
applied for an Apprentice Jockey’s license for the Season 2016/17, it will be granted
to him, however, his license shall stand suspended from the first day of the Pune Meeting 2016 up to and inclusive of 30th
September, 2016. He has been permitted to ride work during the period of his
suspension.

RE :
ENQUIRY INTO THE INCIDENT OF WHIP LOSS BY JOCKEY P. TREVOR ON “STARRY IMAGE” IN
RACE NO.214 – THE SECRET ROMEO PLATE RUN ON THURSDAY, 25th FEBRUARY,
2016 :
Jockey
P. Trevor was questioned in connection with the above captioned matter. Joc. P.
Trevor stated that he was instructed to take a good jump and sit in 3rd / 4th position. He said
that he had asked Trainer Altaf Hussain
if it was okay to sit in 2nd position and the Trainer had agreed. He
said that he sat in 2nd position along the rails.
The
video of the previous run of the filly in Race No 131 was viewed and thereafter
the video of the race in question was viewed from various angles. The blow up
of the incident of whip fall was also viewed.
Thereafter
on questioning regarding the loss of whip, Jockey P. Trevor stated that he had
first used the whip down the shoulder and when he decided to give the filly a
backhander, the whip had slipped out of his hand.
After
hearing the submissions made and viewing the incident of the whip fall, it
could not be established beyond doubt that the loss of whip was inadvertent,
especially considering that the odds had drifted, wherein the morning odds were
16/10 and thereafter at race time the filly opened at 13/4 and further drifted
to 9/2, therefore, the matter was reported to the Stewards for such action as
deemed fit.
The
Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Thursday, 17th March,
2016 interviewed Jockey P. Trevor in the above connection and having heard him
and having viewed the blow up video of the incident, decided to give him the
benefit of the doubt and he was asked to be more careful in the future .

RE:ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “AME” IN RACE
NO.202-THE CRICKET CLUB OF INDIA TROPHY, RUN ON SATURDAY 20th
FEBRUARY 2016.
Trainer
A. M. Jadhav and Jockey Vikram
Walkar were questioned in the above connection. The
Trainer stated that AME has a habit of throwing his head up and lose ground at
the start and keeping this in mind he had used the services of Jockey Vikram Walker to work the gelding during morning track work
in an effort to correct his behaviour and the gelding
had responded to the handling of this Jockey. He said that he had also changed
certain equipments to aid the gelding and had used a Running Martingale and
Tongue Strap and discontinued the use of the cross nose band. Keeping the above
in mind, he had instructed the Jockey to take a good jump and if the gelding
does not throw its head up, to try and go to the front and to do his best. He
said that in the race in question, the gelding did not throw
his head
up at the start and had taken a good jump, however he could not hit the front,
may be because the Jockey was not vigorous enough and he felt that the jockey
was feeble. Tr. A. M. Jadhav added that soon after
the start the entire field had shifted in thereby crowding his horse and may be
that was the reason he could not go to the front. To another question, he
stated that on being questioned after the race, Jockey Vikram
Walkar had informed him that SPEEDO (App. D. S.
Daman) had hung in on to him throughout the race and as such he could not ride
out. When asked for his opinion of the Jockey’s riding efforts in the straight,
Tr. A. M. Jadhav said that the Jockey was tired in
the straight and the reason for this could be that he has not been getting many
mounts.
The
video of the race was viewed and Trainer A. M. Jadhav
pointed out that soon after the start ACKER BILK (P. Trevor, dr.13) had shifted
in and tightened the
field.
Jockey
Vikram Walkar confirmed the
instructions and stated that soon after the start he was tightened for room and
thereafter he was not getting room to ride out and could not go to the front.
On being questioned about his ridding efforts in the straight, Jockey Vikram Walkar stated that he was
riding after a long gap and as such was tired.
After
hearing the submissions made by the Trainer and Jockey and viewing the video of
the race, the Stipendiary Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered
by Jockey Vikram Walker. However, keeping in mind
that the horse was at longer odds and taking an overall view, they decided to
suspend his Jockey’s license w.e.f. 2nd
April, 2016 to 3rd April, 2016 (both days inclusive) for incompetent
riding (permitted to ride work/mock race). Further, Trainer A. M. Jadhav was asked to be more cautious in selection of
Jockeys in the future.
