RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE COMPARATIVE PERFORMANCE OF “PHAROAH” IN RACE NO.152 – THE HARRISH MEHRA TROPHY (DIV.I) (1400 METRES)  RUN ON 22ND JANUARY, 2012 WHICH THE GELDING WON AS COMPARED TO ITS PREVIOUS RUN IN RACE NO.120 RUN ON 5TH JANUARY, 2012 WHERE HE WAS UNPLACED :

Trainer H.J.Antia was questioned in the above connection. Trainer H.J.Antia said that he had given similar instructions in both the races i.e. to sit well up, where he could and to do his best. He said that in Race No.120 the pace in the early part was fast and despite the Jockey making an effort for about 150 metres he could not sit well up and thereafter the Jockey settled the horse behind in 6th or 7th position and kept on niggling him all the way and did his best. He said that in Race No.120 the field was much stronger and the winner EXUBERANCE clocked 1 Minute 25.72 seconds and his horse finished about 7 lengths behind, clocking 1 Minute 26.91 seconds. Considering this run, he did not give the horse much chance in Race No.152 since he was running with some younger horses and he was at longer odds. In this race, the early pace was comparatively slower and the Jockey was able to sit in 2nd position without much effort and turning for home when he made his move and colored the front horse, he already got a break of about four lengths from the other runners which helped him to hold on and win the race clocking 1 Minute 26.42 seconds. Trainer opined that the timings of both the races, do not suggest that his horse had shown much improvement. Further, he had expected the other younger horses in the field to improve on their last run which they failed to do and performed poorly whereby his horse was able to win the race. When asked as to why he ran the horse in a short span of time, Trainer said that he has been trying to get the horse put his best foot forward, however, he had not fancied the horse and the win surprised him. To another question, Trainer Antia said that this horse has won races being well up as also coming from the back.

The explanation tendered by Trainer H.J.Antia has been noted.

SAMPLE RESULTS:
