RACE DAY REPORTS

 

RAILS WERE PLACED 3 METRES AWAY FROM ITS ORIGINAL POINT FROM 1400 METRES (MILE CHUTE) LEADING TO 6 METRES AWAY AT 1200 METRES, 8 METRES AWAY AT 1000 METRES, 10  METRES AWAY AT 800 METRES AND THEREAFTER 12 METRES AWAY UP TO THE WINNING POST.  FOR THE RACES RUN AT THE BACK STRETCH, RAILS WERE PLACED AT ITS ORIGINAL POINT FROM 1400 METRES LEADING TO 4 METRES AWAY AT 1200 METRES AND 8 METRES AWAY AT 1000 METRES.

 

RACE NO.1(88) –THE MAGIC TOUCH PLATE (DIV.II): (About) 1200 Metres – Runners - 9 

 

At the request of Trainer Bezan Chenoy, PEZULA was examined at 1120 hours on 15/01/2020 and found to have urticaria, as such the filly was certified unfit to race and was withdrawn on veterinary grounds. The Trainer is required to obtain a fitness certificate for the filly from the Club’s V.O. before next accepting to race.

 

In the process of rolling behind the starting gates, ON VA DANSER (Dashrath Singh) got kicked by MULTIBAGGER (Nicky Mackay) as such the rider got dislodged. The gelding was examined by the Sr. V.O. who certified him fit to race. Thereafter, ON VA DANSER jumped out tardily losing about a length at the start.

 

At the start, GLACIER EXPRESS (David Egan, dr.2) jumped outwards and made contact with MULTIBAGGER (Nicky Mackay, dr.3).

 

Soon after the start, HATS OFF (D. A. Naik) shifted in and went across DANCING JADE (App. P. S. Kaviraj) causing the latter to clip and stumble. Jockey D. A. Naik has been fined Rs.3,000/-.

 

Passing the 1000 metres, TEODOR MONTE (App. H. Zeeshan) shifted out and went across MULTIBAGGER (Nicky Mackay) who had to be steadied. Thereafter, TEODOR MONTE further shifted out and bumped ADAMS BEGINNING (Santosh G.) who had to be steadied. After questioning, App. H. Zeeshan has been fined Rs.3,000/-.

 

Approaching the 400 metres, ON VA DANSER (Dashrath Singh) leaned inwards thereby tightening ADAMS BEGINNING (Santosh G.) causing the latter to be checked and change course. After questioning all concerned, Jockey Dashrath Singh has been severely reprimanded.

 

After the race, Jockey David Egan (GLACIER EXPRESS) reported that his mount hung out throughout the race. Trainer Imtiaz A. Sait has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the filly.

 

After the race, App. K. Nazil (SIXTH EMPEROR) reported the loss of whip passing the 400 metres. This being his first instance of whip loss during the current Mumbai Meeting 2019/20, no action has been initiated.

 

After the race, HATS OFF was observed to have broken a blood vessel and is not to race for the stipulated ban period of four weeks. The filly has to be passed fit by the Club’s V.O. before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, ON VA DANSER was found to be sore by the right fore leg. The gelding has to be passed fit by the Club’s V.O. before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, GLACIER EXPRESS was observed to have lost its left fore shoe.

 

Vide his email dated 17th January, 2020 Trainer Shazaan Shah informed that his charge TEODOR MONTE bled after the race on its way back to the Stables. In view of the same, the gelding is not to race for the stipulated ban period of four weeks. Further, the gelding has to be passed fit by the Club’s V.O. before next accepting to race.

 

RACE NO.2(89) – THE AVANTAGE PLATE (DIV.II): (About) 1400 Metres – Runners - 11

 

HUZZAH’S GRACE (N. S. Parmar) took a fly jump thus losing about a length at the start.

 

From the 200 metres onwards, Jockey Amyn Merchant (NUSRAT) was observed to have gradually shifted out under use of the whip due to which his mount went across CRAY CRAY (App. K. Nazil) in the final stages of the race. Further, it was also observed that Jockey Amyn Merchant had used the whip in excess of the prescribed limit on his mount. This being his first offence during the current Mumbai Meeting 2019/20, he has been fined Rs.3,000/-.

 

After the race, HIGHLAND WIND was observed to have broken a blood vessel and is not to race for the stipulated ban period of four weeks. The gelding has to be passed fit by the Club’s V.O. before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, ZEEMO was trotted and found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.3(90) – THE FERRARI PLATE: (About) 2000 Metres – Runners - 5 

 

An objection was lodged by Jockey P. Trevor, the rider of GALLOPING GOLDMINE (Placed Second) against RAINBOW TROUT (A. Sandesh, placed First). The reason being, approaching the 150 metres, RAINBOW TROUT started coming in and then came on to him, bumped him and tightened him on the rails thereby affecting his horse, leaving no room for galloping and this cost him a certain race.

 

After considering the submissions made by the Jockeys concerned, in conjunction with that of the Stipendiary Stewards and relying on their judgment, the Stewards upheld the objection and revised the order of placing as under:-

 

GALLOPING GOLDMINE                 -               FIRST;                   FLEUR DE LYS                   -               THIRD;

RAINBOW TROUT                             -               SECOND;             BENEVOLENCE                 -               FOURTH

 

In the above connection, Jockey A. Sandesh was asked to meet the Stewards for careless riding. Consideration of the matter was deferred.

 

RACE NO.4(91) – THE MAGIC TOUCH PLATE (DIV.I): (About) 1200 Metres –Runners- 10 

 

MAKATI (N. B. Kuldeep) and KANADARIO (J. Chinoy) jumped out slow losing about a length each at the start.

 

Passing the 1000 metres, RED CARNATION (App. P. S. Kaviraj) maintained an erratic course thereby inconveniencing GOLDEN STEAL (David Egan).

 

Approaching the 100 metres, RED CARNATION (App. P. S. Kaviraj) shifted in due to which GOLDEN STEAL (David Egan) was tightened and had to be checked. App. P. S. Kaviraj has been cautioned.

 

In the final stages of the race, WAR OF ATTRITION (Amyn Merchant) shifted in and went across HISTORIAN (App. P. Vinod) causing the latter to be checked and change course. Jockey Amyn Merchant has been cautioned.

 

After the race, App. P. Vinod (HISTORIAN) reported that his mount was running green throughout the race.

 

After the race, Jockey P. Trevor (DOWSABEL) reported that his mount was hesitant to raise a fluent gallop throughout the race despite his efforts.

 

After the race, RED CARNATION, DOWSABEL and SANDRA’S SECRET were trotted and found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.5(92) – THE  NADIA MARY HOMI WADIA TROPHY: (About) 1000 Metres –Runners- 7 

 

On arrival at the start, GUSTY GIRL (David Egan) was examined by the Club’s Sr. V.O. who certified her fit to race.

 

After being stalled, GUSTY GIRL (David Egan) rushed the front gates and sat on her haunches. Considering this fractious behavior, GUSTY GIRL was withdrawn before coming under the Starter’s order.

 

RENALA (Nicky Mackay) refused to be stalled despite substantial efforts, as such, the filly was also withdrawn before coming under the Starter’s order.

 

In view of above, Trainer Dallas Todywalla has been asked to take remedial measures and show both his charges to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.

 

CURFEW (Nirmal Jodha) jumped out slow losing about 2 lengths at the start.

 

Approaching the 800 metres, RISING SUN (A. Sandesh) shifted in and went across FINALIST (Dashrath Singh) who had to be steadied.

 

Approaching the 200 metres, FINALIST (Dashrath Singh) hung out despite the rider’s efforts and went on to MENILLY (C. S. Jodha) who was inconvenienced.

 

Passing the 200 metres, EL CAPITAN (P. Trevor) was observed to have hung out despite the rider’s efforts.

 

After the race, Jockey Amyn Merchant (BIG MAGIC) reported that his mount hung out throughout the race.

 

After the race, Jockey A. Sandesh (RISING SUN) reported that his mount maintained an erratic course .

 

After the race, EL CAPITAN, RISING SUN and BIG MAGIC were trotted and found to be sound. EL CAPITAN had an abrasion on the forehead and SOARING HIGH had an abrasion at the left hind pastern. RISING SUN had wolf tooth on the left side. 

 

RACE NO.6(93) – THE INDIAN AIR FORCE TROPHY: (About) 1200 Metres – Runners – 10

 

At the start, DANDI MARCH (Nicky Mackay, dr.1) jumped outwards and carried MOZART (N. S. Parmar, dr.2) outwards.

 

At the start, EN SABAH NUR (Nathan Evans, dr.6) jumped outwards and thereafter shifted in on to NIGHT HUNT (A. Sandesh, dr.5).

 

Passing the 350 metres, NIGHT HUNT (A. Sandesh) shifted in and at the same time DANDI MARCH (Nicky Mackay) shifted out thereby tightening RISING BRAVE (App. K. Nazil) who was racing between them.

 

After the race, Jockey A. Sandesh (NIGHT HUNT) reported that his mount hung-in throughout the race and maintained an erratic course in the final stages. Trainer Vishal Gaikwad has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the gelding.

 

The Sr. V.O. reported that EN SABAH NUR stopped galloping after passing the winning post. On examination, the gelding was found to be sore by the left fore leg. The gelding was sent to the Equine Hospital for further investigation. Subsequently, the Equine Hospital reported that X-ray revealed fracture of both sesamoid. The gelding has to be passed fit by the Club’s V.O. before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, NIGHT HUNT was found to be sore by the right fore leg. The gelding has to be passed fit by the Club’s V.O. before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, MOZART was observed to have a clip injury at the left hind fetlock.

 

RACE NO.7(94) – THE AVANTAGE PLATE (DIV.I): (About) 1400 Metres – Runners - 12 

 

At the start, SUSIE Q (S. J. Sunil, dr. 4) jumped inwards and went across JACK FLASH (App. K. Nazil, dr. 3) who was marginally slow to begin and made contact with WESTERN STYLE (N. S. Parmar, dr. 2).

 

Approaching the 200 metres, HI HO SILVER (App. P. Vinod) leaned inwards, due to which GOLDEN ECLIPSE (A. Sandesh) shifted in causing SMART CHOICE (Amyn Merchant), who was racing on its haunches, to be steadied.

 

PATRIOTS DAY  (App. P. S. Kaviraj) was observed to have run detached from the field and was also inclined outwards. In view of the same, Trainer Narendra Lagad has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the gelding.

 

After the race, SUSIE Q and HEXAHEDRON were trotted and found to be sound. SUSIE Q had an abrasion at the right hind cannon.

 

RACE NO.8(95) – THE BYCULLA CLUB TROPHY: (About) 2800 Metres – Runners - 4            - No report.

The urine samples of the winner of the 2nd 5th, 6th and 8th race viz. SOLO MISSION, SOARING HIGH, MOZART and SACRED ROMAN, and the special sample of NIGHT HUNT (6th race), were collected for detection of prohibited substance.

ADDITIONAL REPORTS:

 

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE POSITIVE REPORT IN RESPECT OF  b c “EXCELLENT SORRENTO” (UNPLACED - BLEEDER) IN RACE NO.3 – THE DOUBLE BULL PLATE RUN ON THURSDAY, 25th JULY, 2019 :

 

The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on 9th January, 2020 considered the evidence obtained by the Stipendiary Stewards/Sr. V.O. in the above enquiry.

 

At the above said meeting Tr. M. Narredu informed the Stewards that he had no mitigating circumstances to submit for the presence of Cobalt exceeding the accepted threshold level in the post race urine sample of his charge EXCELLENT SORRENTO and accepted his vicarious liability for the same.

 

The Stewards after having enquired into the matter and having applied their minds to the entire facts and circumstances of the case and to all papers, proceedings reports and records and also having permitted Tr. M. Narredu to make submissions in the subject matter, held him vicariously responsible for the positive finding of COBALT (categorized in Class 3) in the urine sample of EXCELLENT SORRENTO who ran in Race No.3 on 25th July, 2019.  Therefore, the Stewards of the Club, decided:-

 

a.       to suspend his Trainer’s license for a period of 30 days i.e. w.e.f. 24th January, 2020 to 22nd February, 2020 (both days inclusive);

 

b.       to fine him a sum of Rs.15,000/-.

 

c.        His attention was drawn to the Office Notice dated 20th June, 2018 addressed to all Trainers wherein the Sr. Veterinary Officer had issued an Advisory document for the Trainers for use of supplements containing COBALT, in line with the guidelines published by IFHA, and he was warned to be more careful with regard to the use of feed supplements and pickups in his stable in the future.

RE : APPEAL FROM JOCKEY P. TREVOR AGAINST THE DECISION OF THE STEWARDS OF THE CLUB TO IMPOSE ON HIM A FINE OF RS.20,000/- - ENQUIRY INTO THE WHIP MARKS FOUND ON “SEVENTH MILE” IN RACE NO.23 – THE TO THE MANOR BORN PLATE RUN ON SATURDAY, 10th AUGUST, 2019 AT THE PUNE RACE COURSE :

 

The Board of Appeal at its meeting held on Wednesday, 8th January, 2020 considered appeal dated 24th December, 2019 from Jockey P. Trevor in the above connection.

 

The Board of Appeal considered all documents and papers that were submitted including Jockey P. Trevor’s grounds of appeal and also heard the submissions made by him, Trainer P. Shroff, the Stipendiary Stewards and Dr. Yogesh Bhosale, and viewed the video tape recording of the race in question. The Board of Appeal deliberated on the matter at length and having applied their minds to the same decided to reject the appeal and forfeit the deposit. Accordingly, the decision of the Stewards of the Club conveyed to Jockey P. Trevor vide letter dated 23rd December, 2019 stands.
