SUBJECT : ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “AMAYA” IN RACE NO.196 – THE TOBLER PLATE RUN ON 6TH OCTOBER, 2013 :
The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Narendra Lagad and Jockey Bhanu Pratap Singh in the above connection. Jockey Bhanu Pratap Singh said that he was instructed to go to the front if he could or else to sit 2nd/3rd and to do his best. He said that the trainer had also told him that the filly travels better from the outside and he should come from the outside but had not told him specifically from which stage he should come out. He said that he had followed the instructions and had done his best.
The video recording of the race was viewed and it was pointed out to Jockey Bhanu Pratap Singh that first he had unnecessarily checked his mount at approximately 1100 metres and thereafter started travelling wide from 1000 metres. Further, rounding the final bend, he had travelled further wide, as a result he had to cover more ground and had lost considerable ground. Jockey Bhanu Pratap Singh said that at the 1100 metres he had not checked his mount but the filly has a soft mouth and was not settling. Thereafter, he kept the filly on the outside since his instructions were to come from the outside and near 600 metres the filly tried to go further wide as such he had his whip in the left hand.
Trainer Narendra Lagad confirmed the instructions. He added that AMAYA is a timid filly and gets scared when horses come alongside and she travels better from the outside, hence he had told the Jockey to make his move from the outside, which meant that he should take the filly out in the straight and not to travel wide all through the race. He felt that the Jockey had ridden an injudicious race but there was no mala-fide intent on his part as he had ridden out the filly.
The matter was reported to the Stewards for such action as deemed fit.
The Stewards at their meeting held on Sunday, 15th December, 2013 considered the above report and having viewed the video recording of the race, decided that no action was called for in the matter.

SUBJECT : ENQUIRY INTO THE INTERFERENCE AT THE START AS ALSO INTO THE RUNNING & RIDING OF “ULTRASONIC” IN RACE NO.215 – THE KEENELAND JUVENILE FILLIES’ MILLION (1200 METRES) RUN ON 13TH OCTOBER, 2013 :
The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Imtiaz A.Sait and Jockey Y.S.Srinath in the above connection. Trainer Imtiaz A.Sait said that this filly had come from way behind to win the race in the previous outing with Jockey Dashrath Singh, therefore, he had told Jockey Y.S.Srinath that if there is decent pace then try to settle her otherwise to ride his own race. He said that moment the filly jumped out, she went on to the horse on the outside and the Jockey immediately corrected her. Thereafter he was in second position but she fizzled out in the last part. When questioned about the filly’s behavior in the past, Trainer Imtiaz Sait said that this was the filly’s fifth start, she is slightly temperamental but except in one race where she took a fly jump, in all her other races she has jumped out straight. He said that in this particular race the Jockey got on to the filly just before the start and possibly he was caught by surprise by the filly’s behavior and he has immediately tried to correct her. He opined that it is one of those things that can happen in a race.
Jockey Y.S.Srinath said that he was instructed to ride his own race and to do his best. When asked to explain what happened in the Starting Gate, Jockey Y.S.Srinath said that the filly was led to the start rider-less and she was loaded last and rider-less. He said that when he got on to the filly, she was standing awkwardly and hence he called for a Handler who corrected her but as soon as the gates opened the filly jumped cross and he immediately corrected her to the best of his skill, the whole incident happening in under 10 seconds. He felt that the filly was spooked and tried to go out and he immediately brought the filly back into a straight path and since he was already in a forward position and this being a 1200 metres race he rode his race from there. Jockey Y.S.Srinath was specifically asked that since the Trainer may have told him to ride the filly in check, was it possible that he had held the left rein tight due to which the filly jumped towards the outside. Jockey Srinath said that it was not his style of riding to hold the reins tight at the start and he has never done such a thing before. Even if he is instructed to ride a horse in check, he allows the horse to take a proper jump and thereafter relaxes the horse.
The video recording of the race was viewed in normal as well as slow motion. Jockey Y.S.Srinath said that possibly the filly was drawn-1 for the first time and she was spooked having seen something and tried to go out. He added that she has jumped straight but before she put her foot down she tried to go out and normally a horse would not behave in such a manner unless he was spooked/scared of something. Trainer Imtiaz A.Sait felt that probably the filly may have seen the Handler moving towards the gate and tried to run out.
The matter was reported to the Stewards for such action as deemed fit.
The Stewards at their meeting held on Sunday, 15th December, 2013 considered the above report and having viewed the video recording of the race, decided that the incident was accidental and no action was called for in the matter.
