RE : ENQUIRY INTO RUNNING AND RIDING OF “SET TO FLY” IN RACE NO.88 – THE SANS PAREIL PLATE (1400 METRES) RUN ON SUNDAY, 26TH AUGUST, 2012 :
The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer S.K.Sunderji and Jockey J.Chinoy in the above connection. Trainer Sunderji said that in the first run of the horse during the current Pune Meeting in Race No.35 the horse was well up and had fizzled out in the straight. He said that in the race in question, the horse was drawn-12 and he had instructed the Jockey to take a jump and settle the horse in mid bunch, gradually improve his position at the bend, have horses in front of him to challenge and to do his best in the straight. Jockey J.Chinoy confirmed the instructions.
The video recording of Race No.88 was viewed and when asked for his observation, Tr.Sunderji opined that the Jockey probably sat a little further back than he would have liked and travelled a little wide from the 400 metres and he came too quick. Also, the Jockey used the whip in the wrong hand (right hand) whereby the horse drifted out and all this had cost him the race. Tr.Sunderji said that he had told the Jockey in the paddock that he should keep the whip in his left hand and on entering the straight when he saw the whip in the Jockey’s right hand, he was hoping that the horse would run straight but he went out. He said that this was only the third run of the horse and he was running a little green and Pune Race Course has a short straight whereby if a Jockey commits a mistake he has no time to correct the horse. He said that after the race the Jockey informed him that the horse was lugging in slightly and therefore he had switched the whip to the right hand which he (Jockey J.Chinoy) had later realized was a mistake and the same had cost him the race.
Jockey J.Chinoy said that he settled the horse in mid bunch as instructed and he had his whip in the left hand all along. However, on entering the straight the horse started lugging in slightly and he felt that COMMANDER (Dashrath Singh) was racing too close to him, therefore, he switched the whip to the right hand because it was at the back of his mind that in the earlier race also the horse had hung in slightly. Jockey J.Chinoy said that on hindsight, he felt that it was a mistake to change the whip hand and the same had cost him the race and he had informed this to the Trainer after the race. When asked as to why he did not switch the whip to the left hand again when he realized that the horse was drifting out, Jockey J.Chinoy said that when he used the whip twice, the horse showed no signs of drifting out but thereafter suddenly went out and gave him no time to correct the horse.
The matter was reported to the Stewards for such action as deemed fit.
The Stewards at their meeting held on Saturday, 15th September, 2012 interviewed Tr.S.K.Sunderji and Jockey J.Chinoy in the above connection and having heard the submissions made by them and having viewed the video recording of the race, were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey J.Chinoy and held him guilty of injudicious riding on SET TO FLY wherein he had allowed the horse to drift out under use of the whip in the straight and made insufficient effort to correct the horse, which, by his own admission, had cost him the race. However, keeping in mind that Jockey J.Chinoy had admitted his mistake, the Stewards took a lenient view in the matter and instead of suspending his Jockey’s license, they decided to fine him a sum of Rs.10,000/- for injudicious riding.

RE : JOCKEY C.RAJENDRA REPORTED TO THE STEWARDS FOR MISCONDUCT WITH THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS:
The Stipendiary Stewards reported that Jockey C.Rajendra , the rider of MONZA, was fined a sum of Rs.2,000/- for shifting in before the Red Marker in Race No.127 run on Sunday, 9th September, 2012. However, when Jockey C.Rajendra was shown the video recording of the race and informed about the above fine, he behaved in a very rude and aggressive manner with the Officials. As such, they were reporting Jockey C.Rajendra for misconduct.
The Stewards at their meeting held on Saturday, 15th September, 2012 interviewed Jockey C.Rajendra in the above connection and not being satisfied with the explanation tendered him and held him guilty of misconduct for behaving in a very rude and aggressive manner with the Officials of the Club. Therefore, the Stewards decided :-
i) to suspend his Jockey’s license w.e.f. 30th September, 2012 to 7th October, 2012 (both days inclusive) (permitted to ride work/mock race);
ii) to fine him a sum of Rs.25,000/-.
