RACE DAY REPORTS

RAILS WERE PLACED 6 METRES AWAY FROM ITS ORIGINAL POINT FROM 1600 METRES (MILE CHUTE) TO 1200 METRES AND THEREAFTER 8 METRES AWAY UPTO THE WINNING POST. FOR THE RACES STARTING FROM THE BACK STRETCH, RAILS WERE PLACED FROM ITS ORIGINAL POINT FROM 1400 METRES LEADING TO 3 METRES AWAY AT 1200 METRES AND 8 METRES AWAY AT 1000 METRES.

On a request from Trainer Janardhan, permission was granted to Trainer Vinesh to saddle his charges VIVA ZAPATA & HALO OF FAME in the 6^th& 7^th race respectively, at his (Trainer Janardhan’s) risk and responsibility.

RACE NO.1(136) – THE ALLAIRE PLATE (DIV.II): (About) 1200 Metres – Runners - 8

MIDNIGHT LADY (D.A.Naik) was inclined to lug-in in the straight. Trainer Mansoor Shah has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the filly.

Trainer D.J.Surti was questioned regarding the comparative performance of his charge QUANDO QUANDO. He said that QUANDO QUANDO was the only horse with a win, in this race. After her win on the first day, he declared the same Jockey i.e. A.Sandesh in the next run, however, the filly had to carry top weight because of the winning penalty and she ran fourth. Therefore, he claimed 5 kg allowance in the third run to negate the penalty, but realized after the race that the filly probably needed the whip, hence he put up App.Prabhu Naidu, allowance claimer with a whip in the next start but the boy could not give her a good ride. In view of the above, this time he again decided to put a full jockey and he gave the filly a chance. The explanation was noted.

After the race, VAILE ROUGE, POLAR ZONE, SUNTAN BEAUTY and MIDNIGHT LADY were found to be sound.

RACE NO.2(137) – THE PERCEIVED VALUE PLATE: (About) 1400 Metres – Runners - 5

Trainer P.Shroff was questioned regarding the poor performance of CENTRESTAGE. He stated that the Instructions to the Jockey were to follow STEP UP and NEONA and do his best. He opined that the filly may have not liked being covered with horses as she was a bit tentative soon after the start when BIZARRO came alongside whereas in the previous outing she was placed on the outside. He further added that the other horses were better than her as she was running in a higher Class today. Jockey J.P.O’Brien stated that the filly appeared to be fine but she did not gallop the way she had done on the previous occasion. The Sr. VO was requested to examine the filly and he reported that no abnormality was detected. The explanation was noted.

RACE NO.3(138) – THE ALLAIRE PLATE (DIV.I): (About) 1200 Metres – Runners – 9

At the start, CERRO NEGRO (C.Rajendra, dr.4) jumped awkwardly outwards and as the filly was brought on an even keel, she shifted in and jostled with TUSCANIA (S.S.Baria, dr.3).

Approaching 400 metres, FEARLESS (App.S.Mosin) shifted out and inconvenienced MAHIKI (Suraj Narredu).

Approaching 200 metres, CASTLEROY (S.Zervan) shifted out under the use of the whip, losing ground. Jockey S.Zervan has been fined Rs.1,000/- for improper use of the whip.

CERRO NEGRO (C.Rajendra) lugged outwards in the final 200 metres. Trainer Faisal A.Abbas has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the filly.

After the race, TUSCANIA was observed to have broken a blood vessel and is not to race for the stipulated period of 4 weeks. The filly has to be passed fit by the Club’s VO before next accepting to race.

After the race, CASTLETROY, MAHIKI and CERRO NEGRO (examined on 16/01/2013), were found to be sound.

RACE NO.4(139) – THE GREATER MUMBAI POLICE TROPHY: (About) 1600 Metres – Runners – 6

OCTOPAUL (P.Trevor) lost 2 lengths at the start.

Jockey P.S.Chouhan (MARENGO) reported that his mount was not comfortable during the race and was not stretching. He added that he rode the gelding with support and found the gelding more uncomfortable under pressure. The Sr. VO was requested to examine the gelding and he reported that no abnormality was detected.

After the race, BARRINGO was observed to have a cut injury at the right fore cannon and right hind coronet.

RACE NO.5(140) – THE AHMED I.RAHIMTOOLA TROPHY: (About)1000 Metres – Runners - 11

At the stat, ZARAR (Akshay, dr.1) jumped awkwardly outwards and went on to RIO (Daniel M.Grant, dr.2). GHANGHORR (Nirmal Jodha) also jumped out awkwardly.

At the start, YELLOWZONE (Dashrath Singh, dr.10) shifted in, due to which TAHRIR (P.Trevor, dr.9) shied away and hampered the running of PANTHERA (S.Zervan).

At the start, OVERTIME MAGIC (M.A.Roushan, dr.6) jumped awkwardly outwards and went on to PANTHERA (S.Zervan, dr.7), who shifted out and hampered the running of BARONESS (D.K.Ashish, dr.8).

Approaching 800 metres, RIO (Daniel M Grant) shifted in and took the running of ZARAR (Akshay) who clipped the heels of the former and stumbled. The matter is reported to the Stewards for such action as deemed fit and the same will come up before the Stewards at the next meeting.

An objection was lodged by Jockey S.Zervan, rider of PANTHERA (Placed Second) against YELLOW ZONE (Dashrath Singh, Placed First). The reason being, immediately on start, YELLOW ZONE shifted in and caused a chain reaction due to which he did not get room to get into a desirable position and his horse dropped back completely out of contention and finished on strongly to run second and the above incident had cost him a certain race.

After considering the submissions made by the Jockeys concerned, in conjunction with that of the Stipendiary Stewards and relying on their judgment, the Stewards decided to over-rule the objection.

After the race, BARONESS and GHANGHORR were found to be sound. PANTHERA was observed to have lost its left fore plate.

RACE NO.6(141) – THE WARSAW PACT PLATE: (About) 1800 Metres – Runners - 13

At the request of Trainer Narendra Lagad, REINSTATE was examined at 0745 hours on 14/01/2013 and was found to be sore by the right fore leg, as such, the mare was certified unfit to race and was withdrawn on Veterinary grounds. The mare has to be passed fit to race by the Club’s VO before next accepting to race.

After being loaded, MYLA ROSE (D.K.Ashish) kicked the rear gates. The filly was taken out and examined by the Club’s V.O. who certified her fit to race. EQUIANO (App.Sandeep Jadhav) reared up and flipped over in the stall and WINNING DESTINY (A.Sandesh) reared up and cast itself in an awkward position. Both the horses were withdrawn before coming under the Starter’s Order. Trainers Faisal A.Abbas, Amjad Khan and Rehanullah Khan have been asked to give their respective charge more gate practice and show them to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.

ROSWALD (S.Zervan) lugged-in in the straight. Trainer has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the gelding.

Jockey Shrikant Kamble (SAVAGE GARDEN) reported the loss of whip, near 400 metres.

An objection was lodged by Jockey D.K.Ashish, rider of MYLA ROSE (Placed Fourth) against ROSWALD (S.Zervan, Placed Third). The reason being, near 150 metres, ROSWALD came on to him, bumped his horse and took his ground due to which he had to stop riding and thereafter his filly made a re-run to finish fourth, on the quarters of ROSWALD.

After considering the submissions made by the Jockeys concerned, in conjunction with that of the Stipendiary Stewards and relying on their judgment, the Stewards upheld the objection and revised the order of placing of the race as under :-.

WINDS OF FORTUNE - First; MYLA ROSE - Third;

ANTONIUS MAXIMUS - Second; ROSWALD - Fourth

After the race, WINNING DESTINY was observed to have an abrasion at both fore cannon, MYLA ROSE had an abrasion at the left hind pastern and EQUIANO had an abrasion at the right fore elbow. SAVAGE GARDEN, ZAMBEZI, ROSWALD and ANTONIUS MAXIMUS were found to be sound.

RACE NO.7(142) – THE WESTERN INDIA BOOKMAKERS’ ASSOCIATION TROPHY: (About) 1200 Metes – Runners - 10

Jockey Suraj Narredu was declared to ride RELIC HUNTER and MASTEROFTHESKY by Trainers C.D.Katrak and Dallas Todywalla respectively in this race. After enquiring, Trainer C.D.Katrak was permitted to declare Jockey Suraj Narredu to ride RELIC HUNTER and Tr.Dallas Todywalla declared App.Sandeep Jadhav on MASTEROFTHESKY. Trainer Dallas Todywalla has been fined Rs.1,000/- for declaring a Jockey without his consent.

Soon on entering the straight, INCENTIO (Vikram Jodha) was inconvenienced as BULLSEYE (J.P.O’Brien) shifted out due to AUTUMN RUSH (C.Rajendra) shifting out at that stage.

ARCTIC MINSTREL (Dashrath Singh) lugged out in the final stages of the race. Trainer Narendra Lagad has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the mare.

HALO OF FAME (Akshay ) hung out in the straight. The Trainer has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the mare.

ARCTIC MINSTREL (Dashrath Singh) and FOREST LEGION (Colm O’Donoghue) made contact with each other on a few occasions in the straight as both the horses shifted ground.

Jockey J.P.O’Brien (BULLSEYE) has been cautioned for shifting out under the use of the whip in the final stages of the race.

After the race, DESTINED TO GLORY was found to be sore by the right fore leg. The horse has to be passed fit by the Club’s VO before next accepting to race.

After the race, INCENTIO was found to be sound, but having a cut injury at the right hind cannon. HALO OF FAME and MARINE ZONE were found to be sound.

RACE NO.8(143) –THE RAMNIWAS RAMNARAIN RUIA GOLD CUP (GR.2): (About) 2000 Mtrs – Runners - 11

Approaching 400 meters, HURRICANE WIND (Suraj Narredu) shifted in and went on to COMMANDER (Dashrah Singh) who caused AMAZING DESIRE (D.K.Ashish) to shift in.

Jockeys S.John (AN ACQUIRED TATSTE) and S.Zervan (HEMISPHERE) have been fined Rs.1,000/- each for using the whip in excess of the prescribed limit on their respective mount.

Jockey P.Trevor (NEW WORLD) has been fined Rs.3,000/- for using the whip in excess of the prescribed limit on his mount.

SHIVALIK HERO (Colm O’Donoghue) and MACHIAVELLIANISM (P.S.Chouhan) lugged out in the straight. Trainers M.Narredu & L.V.R.Deshmukh have been asked to take remedial measures with their respect charge before next accepting to race them.

At the behest of the Stipendiary Stewards, a Stewards Enquiry was held into the running of this race. The reason being, in the straight SHIVALIK HERO (Colm O’Donoghue, placed Second) twice shifted out on to MACHIAVELLIANISM (P.S.Chouhan, placed Third) as they were running neck and neck, the second time i.e. at about 200 metres, the incident might have caused MACHIAVELLIANISM to get unbalanced and in the process the horse started dropping back.

After considering the submissions made by the Jockeys concerned, in conjunction with that of the Stipendiary Stewards and relying on their judgment, the Stewards decided to maintain the order of placing as declared by the Judge,.

After the race, MACHIAVELLIANISM and SHIVALIK HERO were found to be sound. AN ACQUIRED TASTE had a cut injury at the right hind fetlock, HACHIKO had a cut injury at the right hind coronet and SHIVALIK HERO had an abrasion at the right hind heel.

RACE NO.9(144) – THE BLUE RIBBON PLATE: (About) 1600 Metres – Runners - 12

SACRE COEUR (Nirmal Jodha) was slowly out losing about 4 lengths at the start. Trainer Adhirajsingh Jodha has been asked to give the mare more gate practice and show her to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.

Near 700 metres, WINDS OF LUCK (Suraj Narredu) weakened and slowed down due to which WISH UPON A STAR (Ishar Pardeshi) who was following, was steadied and in the process dropped back on to KALINGA STAR (Dashrath Singh) who in turn hampered BY THE WAY (J.Chinoy) and GLOWING MIST (C.S.Jodha) who were steadied. WINDS OF LUCK trailed the field thereafter. The Sr.V.O. was requested to examine WINDS OF LUCK and he reported that the gelding was observed to have broken a blood vessel and is not to race for the stipulated period of 4 weeks. The gelding has to be passed fit by the Club’s VO before next accepting to race.

Jockey S.Zervan (AMORA) has been fined Rs.3,000/- for using the whip in excess of the prescribed limit on his mount.

After the race, GLOWING MIST was observed to have an abrasion at the right hind pastern. SACRE COEUR was found to be sound.

The post race urine sample of the winner of 2^nd, 5^th, 7^th and 8^th race, viz. NEONA, YELLOW ZONE, BULLSEYE and AN ACQUIRED TASTE, as also that of SHIVALIK HERO and MACHIAVELLIANISM (8^th race), and the special sample of TUSCANIA (3^rd race) and WINDS OF LUCK (9^th race), were collected for detection of prohibited substance.

RE : RACE NO.134 – THE MARCHETTA PLATE (DIV.I) RUN ON 10^TH JANUARY, 2013 – JOCKEY S.P.RANJANE, RIDER OF “WARRIOR PRINCE” – REPORTED TO THE STEWARDS FOR IMPROPER USE OF THE WHIP:

The Stewards at their meeting held on Tuesday, 15^th January, 2013 interviewed Jockey S.P.Ranjane in the above connection and having heard him and viewing the video recording of the race, were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by him and held him guilty of improper use of the whip on his mount WARRIOR PRINCE. The Stewards noted that despite the horse being in distress and dropping back out of contention in the race, he continued the use of the whip. Therefore, the Stewards decided to suspend his Jockey’s license w.e.f. 2^nd February, 2013 to 3^rd February, 2013 (both days inclusive) (permitted to ride work/mock race). Further, he was severely warned for the future.
