RACE NO.1(205) – THE LUFTHANSA-SENATOR TROPHY (DIV.II): (About) 1200 Metres – 14 Runners

At the request of Trainer S.S.Shah, SILVER LINING was examined at 0730 hours on 12/10/2012 and was found to be sore by the left fore leg, as such, the filly was certified unfit to race and hence withdrawn on Veterinary grounds. The filly has to be passed fit to race by the Club’s VO before next accepting to race.

WINDS OF LUCK (Kavraj Singh) was slowly out, losing about 5 lengths at the start. Trainer S.Mangalorkar has been asked to give the gelding more gate practice and show him to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.

Soon after the start, ASHWA APOLLO (App.Prasad) shifted in and went on to XENIA (Akshay), who in turn went on to ZORBA (V.Phadke), who was checked by its Rider. App.Prasad has been fined Rs.3000/- for failing to exercise proper control over his mount.

On entering the straight, ASHWA APOLLO (App.Prasad) lugged in and made contact with SONG OF AFRICA (C.S.Jodha) on a couple of occasions. App.Prasad has been cautioned for not making sufficient efforts to control his mount and Trainer Sangramsinh N.Joshi has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the filly.

SECRET WEAPON (P.Trevor) was forced to cover extra ground when racing wide for the major part of the race.

After the race, ZORBA was observed to have broken a blood vessel and is not to race for the stipulated period of 4 weeks. The gelding has to be passed fit by the Club’s VO before next accepting to race.

After the race, ASHWA APOLLO was found to be sound, but having a cut injury at the right hind fetlock, cut injuries above left hock and cut injury at the right fore cannon.  XENIA had an abrasion at both hind fetlock and  MACHALA had an abrasion at the left fore pastern.

RACE NO.2(206) – THE  F.A. & K.A. IRANI TROPHY: (About) 1000 Metres  – 9 Runners

An objection was lodged by Jockey A.Sandesh, rider of WINTER WIND (placed fourth), against BORDERLINE (C.S.Jodha, placed third). The reason being, BODERLINE kept on taking him out in the straight and near 150 metres took him further out, whereby he had to check his mount and break his horse’s stride totally, which cost him the third place.

After considering the submissions made by the Jockeys concerned, in conjunction with that of the Stipendiary Stewards  and relying on their judgment, the Stewards decided to over-rule the objection.

In the above connection Jockey C.S.Jodha was asked to meet the Stewards after the last race for Careless riding.  However, since Jockey C.S.Jodha had a fall in the 9th race, consideration of the matter has been deferred to the next meeting of the Stewards.

Soon after the start, STRINGSOFMYHEART (Dashrath Singh) shifted in and went across the field on his inside thus causing a chain reaction, wherein STRINGSOFMYHEART went on to EMERGING STAR (Suraj Narredu), who went on to VIVA LA DIVA (Akshay), who in turn went on to RULE FOREVER (P.Kamlesh). Jockey Dashrath Singh has been fined Rs.5000/- for failing to exercise proper control over his mount.

Trainer Karthik G. when given an opportunity to explain the poor performance of his charge SMART STRIDER, stated that the gelding is a free running horse and today’s race was too fast in the early part and the gelding could not have his run and that the gelding was running in an open company in Class II. He added that in the straight, when SMART STRIDER had the rail run, RULE FOREVER came across the gelding who had to be steadied. He said that after the race, the Jockey informed him that the gelding was crowded by other horses and was not moving freely. The Trainer further added that if the gelding had got the free run on the rails in the straight, he could have finished closer. He said that this was the fourth run of the horse during the current Pune Meeting and he would lay him off for now. He did agree that when the gelding did have a clear passage on straightening, he did not respond to Jockey B.Sreekanth’s riding. Jockey B.Sreekanth when questioned, stated that he felt that the horse was flat and did need a let up. Their explanation was noted.

After the race, SMART STRIDER, RULE FOREVER and BORDERLINE were found to be sound. ISHPINGO had a gum injury.

RACE NO.3(207) – THE  VINAYAK TROPHY (DIV.II): (About) 1400 Metres – 8 Runners

After being stalled, COLOSSUS (J.Chinoy) reared up in the gate and turned back and got stuck in the rear gate. On examination by the Club’s V.O., the gelding was found to have suffered bruises at the left stifle area  and was sore from the left hind leg. As such, the gelding was certified unfit to race and hence withdrawn on veterinary ground, before coming under the Starter’s Order.  Trainer P.Shroff has been asked to give the gelding more gate practice and show him to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.  Also, the gelding has to be passed fit by the Club’s V.O. before next accepting to race.

Due to the above incident,  SHERLOCK HOLMES (P.Trevor), who was in the adjoining stall was disturbed and had to be taken out for a Vet Check and in the process the gelding broke loose, breaking the rear false rail barrier. As per the practice, the trainer was contacted and he desired to run the horse.  Meanwhile all the other horses which were stalled, were taken out and re-stalled. SHERLOCK HOLMES was returned to the starting point, re-inspected and passed fit to start/

At the start, MENAGE A TROIS (Neeraj Rawal, dr.2) jumped awkwardly outwards and took the running of NICANORA (Vikram Jodha, dr.3) who was steadied.

Trainer Nina M.Lalvani, when given an opportunity to explain the poor performance of her charge NUSH, stated that this was the filly’s second outing and the Instructions to the Jockey were to be in 2nd or 3rd position and to do his best. The Trainer added that the previous start was over 1200 metres where the pace was fast and the filly settled in mid bunch, however, today’s race being run over 1400 metres, the filly was able to be well up. To another question, she stated that she would have liked if the filly raced with cover but she was caught wide and had to travel wider at the final turn covering extra ground. Jockey A.Sandesh said that he was unable to take NUSH closer to the rail. This was confirmed after observing the film. Their explanation was noted.
