RACE DAY REPORTS
FALSE RAILS WERE PLACED ABOUT 4 METRES WIDE FROM 1600 METRES TILL 1000 METRES AND THEREAFTER THERE WERE NO FALSE RAILS.
RACE NO 1 (59) - THE ASPINALLS PLATE (DIV.II) : (About) 1200 Metres. Runners - 8
Jockey S.P.Ranjane (ASCLEPIEION) reported that his horse hung in throughout the race and brushed the rails at about 800mts. Trainer H.J.Antia has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the gelding.
HOUDINI (S.Sunil) threw his head up and jumped out awkwardly. When questioned, the jockey stated that the horse was running with a Hanging Bit for the first time as he had hung out in its previous run. Trainer Faisal A Abbas stated that the horse had a CNB and a TS On due to which he may have thrown its head around. Trainer Faisal A.Abbas has been asked to show the gelding to the satisfaction of the Starter during morning Trials before next accepting to race him.
After the race, FLUENT VICTORY, ASCLEPIEION and BEMISAAL were found to be sound.
FLUENT VICTORY was observed to have lost its both fore plates. An enquiry has been initiated into this incident and a report will be submitted shortly.
RACE NO 2 (60) - THE ASPINALLS PLATE (DIV.I) : (About) 1200 Metres. Runners – 8
At the request of Trainer D.J.Surti, WELLS FARGO was examined at 1130 hours on 12/08/2010 and was found to have colic, as such the mare was certified unfit to race and was withdrawn on Veterinary grounds.
Jockey Zameer Sayyed (BENEDICTUS) was fined Rs.1000/- for improper use of the whip.
An enquiry has been initiated into the comparative performance of EYE OF THE STORM and a report will be submitted shortly.
After the race, SECRET TALK & IJLAL were found to be sound.
RACE NO 3 (61) – THE ZEPHYR BAY PLATE: (About) 1400 Metres. Runners - 8
On the way to the start, FROST FAIRY (App.P.Trevor) dropped the rider and bolted riderless. The filly was withdrawn from the race before coming under the Starter’s Order.
The Saddle on ARABIAN EMPIRE (Zameer Sayyed) slipped back during the race, as such, Trainer Vijay Kasbekar has been fined Rs. 2000/- for faulty saddling of his charge.
Jockey D.S.Rathore (ENCHANTED) was observed to have dropped his hands before passing the Post and lost 2nd Place. The matter was reported to the Stewards for such action as deemed fit.
The Stewards at their meeting held after the last race, interviewed Jockey D.S.Rathore who was accompanied by his Spokesman, Mr.S.Kapoor, and having heard the submissions made and viewing the video recording of the race, were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey D.S.Rathore and held him guilty of riding an incompetent race. In that, he unbalanced the horse whilst using the whip in the straight and thereafter failed to preserve with his mount in the last 50 metres which cost him the second place. Therefore, the Stewards decided to suspend his Jockey’s license w.e.f. 29th August, 2010 to 4th September, 2010 (both days inclusive) (permitted to ride work/mock race). Further, he was severely cautioned for the future.
Jockey P.S.Chouhan (LUSTY) reported that his instructions were to be in 3rd/4th position but the horse was very sluggish all the way and hence he was unable to follow the Trainer’s instructions. The Sr.V.O. was requested to examine the filly and he reported that LUSTY was found to be sound,.
Trainer S.S.Shah complained that Jockey N.S.Parmar (RAJDOOT) did not follow his instructions which were to be in 4th/5th position and he was well up all the way. On viewing the video replay of the race, it was observed that after jumping out, the horse tried to drift outwards and in trying to control his mount and be in position, Jockey N.S.Parmar had brushed up his mount whereby his mount became keen and was placed well up. Not being entirely satisfied with the explanation, Jockey N.S.Parmar has been cautioned for the future.
After the race, SILVER SCREEN was observed to have an abrasion on the right hind bulb of heel. ORADA and ENCHANTED were found to be sound.
RACE NO 4 (62) – THE ROYAL PRINCESS PLATE (DIV.II): (About) 1400 Metres. Runners - 10
At the start, FISH PILOT (App.D.Akkshay) shifted-in in an attempt to hit the front and tightened TELL ME MORE (Ladjadj Stephane), who in turn went on to STRAUSS (C.Rajendra). App.D.Akkshay has been cautioned for failing to exercise proper control over his mount.
Jockey Neeraj Rawal (TRYST WITH DESTINY) was questioned regarding his riding in the straight. The Jockey stated that at about 300 metres, he had a gap between FISH PILOT and HONEY BEE and FISH PILOT was weakening and dropping back and he felt that HONEY BEE on his outside may come in, therefore. he chose not to take the gap. Not being satisfied by his explanation, the matter was reported to the Stewards.
The Stewards at their meeting held after the last race, interviewed Jockey Neeraj Rawal in the above connection and having heard him and viewing the video recording of the race, were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by him in the subject case. However, the Stewards decided to give him the benefit of a grave doubt for unsatisfactory riding and held him guilty of riding an ill-judged race. In that, after entering the straight when he took the railing, he was aware that FISH PILOT who was racing in front was dropping back and yet he did not move out to give his filly a clear run and he made no effort to take the gap which was available and chose to stay where he was. Therefore, the Stewards decided to fine him a sum of Rs.10,000/- and to severely caution him for the future.
After the race, HONEY BEE was observed to have broken a blood vessel and is not to race for the stipulated period of 4 weeks. The filly has to be passed fit by the Club’s VO before next accepting to race.
After the race, STAR BUILDER, FISH PILOT & TRYST WITH DESTINY were found to be sound.
RACE NO 5 (63) – THE ROYAL PRINCESS PLATE (DIV.I): (About) 1400 Metres. Runners - 9
At the request of Trainer Bezan Chinoy, ROYAL PORTHCAWL was examined at 0845 hours on 13/08/2010 and was found to be sore by the left fore leg. As such the filly was certified unfit to race and was withdrawn on Veterinary grounds. The filly has to be passed fit by the Club’s VO before next accepting to race.
KITE RUNNER (C.S.Jodha) jumped out slow, losing about 3 lengths at the start. Since the filly had behaved in a similar manner in its previous run, Trainer Magansingh P.Jodha has been asked to give the filly more gate practice and show her to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.
After the race, SUPER KING was observed to have an abrasion on the left hind fetlock & DAFFODILS had a cut injury on the left hind fetlock. ICON was found to be sound.
RACE NO 6 (64) - THE AL DENTE PLATE : (About) 1000 Metres. Runners - 15
MARIGOLD (A.M.Tograllu) and HURRICANE BIRD (S.Sunil) played up in the stall. Trainers Narendra Lagad and Nana Rathunath have been asked to give their respective charge more gate practice and to show them to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.
MARIGOLD lugged-in in the straight. Trainer Narendra Lagad has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the filly.
After the race, MARIGOLD was observed to be sound, having a broken lower jaw tooth.
RACE NO 7 (65) – THE PARANJAPE EVE CHAMPION TROPHY (GRADE 3) :
(About) 2000 Metres. Runners – 7
MR GREEDY was withdrawn on compassionate grounds.
Approaching 200 metres, HIGHLAND CROWN (P.Kamlesh) shifted in and inconvenienced CLARION CALL (Neeraj Rawal). Jockey P.Kamlesh has been cautioned for failing to exercise proper control over his mount.
RACE NO 8 (66) - THE GOVERNOR’S GOLD TROPHY: (About) 1600 Metres. Runners - 10
TROMOS (D.K.Ashish) refused to be stalled despite all efforts, as such, the gelding was withdrawn before coming under the Starter’s Order. Trainer S.K.Sunderji has been asked to give his charge more gate practice and show the horse to the satisfaction of the Starter in a Mock Race, before next accepting to race.
STARFALL (Suraj Narredu) jumped out slow, losing about 2 lengths at the start.
Relying on a report from the Sr. VO, Trainer Zadmal Singh has been fined Rs.2000/- for declaring incorrect shoeing on his charge CONFISERIE (Imrana Chisty). The filly was declared to have All Four Aluminium, however, on examination was found to have Aluminium, Both Hind High Heels.
LIVING THE DREAM (D.S.Rathore) lugged-in in the final 200 metres and made contact with AMORE MIO (N.S.Parmar) and unbalanced the latter. The Matter will be reported to the Stewards.
After the race, TAKESTWOTOTANGO, LIVING THE DREAM, STARFALL, ASHWA PRAYAG & ROYAL COMPANION were found to be sound.
RACE NO 9 (67) – THE GOLFING PLATE : (About) 1200 Metres. Runners - 14
GOT TO GO (Neeraj Rawal) lugged out in the straight. Trainer Nosher Cama has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the mare.
The Surcingle on TALK OF THE TOWN (App.A.Sandesh) was observed to be dangling during the race. The Apprentice explained that the gelding had played up in the stall and was fractious, and at that time the surcingle buckle may have opened.
After the race, PRINCE LOCHINVA was found to be sore by the right fore leg. The gelding has to be passed fit to race by the Club’s VO before next accepting to race.
After the race, AMBEROGIO, FLAMING ARROW & TALK OF THE TOWN were found to be sound. AMBEROGIO had a cut injury on the right fore canon.
RACE NO 10 (68) – THE RONIN PLATE: (About) 1000 Metres. Runners – 15
FIAMMA (App.A.Sandesh) ducked out after the start and went on to TATTENHOE (Imran Chisty) causing the latter to stumble. Since the incident was accidental, no action was initiated against App.A.Sandesh.
TATTENHOE (Imran Chisty) was further observed to hang-in in the straight. Since the gelding had hung in previously during the current Pune Meeting, Trainer Faisal A.Abbas has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the gelding.
SILVER SOUL (S.S.Baria) shifted in under pressure at about 100 metres and inconvenienced RAN BANKA (M.Narredu). Jockey S.S.Baria has been severely cautioned for failing to exercise proper control over his mount.
The Sr.V.O. reported that after the race, FIAMMA broke down by the right fore fetlock. The mare was euthanized on the track, on humane grounds.
After the race, GAME OF POWER was observed to have an abrasion on the right fore canon and RAN BANKA had lost its left fore plate. HIGHLAND WARRIOR, FLAMING ARROW, RAN BANKA, TATTENHOE & PTOLEMY were found to be sound.
The post race urine sample of the winner of 4th, 6th, 7th & 10th race viz. TELL ME MORE, TITLEIST, HIGHLAND CROWN & SILVER SOUL, as also that of YOURE SO BEAUTIFUL & NATIVE KNIGHT (7th race) and the special sample of BEMISAAL (1st race), HONEY BEE (4th race), TAKESTWOTOTANGO (8th race), FLAMING ARROW (9th race) & HIGHLAND WARRIOR (10th race), were collected for detection of prohibited substance.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “HIGHLAND GLORY” IN RACE NO.19 – THE VICTORIA FALLS PLATE RUN ON 22ND JULY, 2010 :
The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Adil Dajee and Jockey Imran Chisty in the above connection. Trainer Adil Dajee stated that HIGHLAND GLORY had worked very well in his last spurt on the 19th of July, 2010 which was the best work on that day and on the basis of that work he had fancied the horse in Race No.19, however, he was disappointed with the run of this horse. He said that because of the kick back, he had instructed the Jockey to try and hit the front or be well up and to do his best. He said that soon after the start the horse was well up and had an opening along the rails but the horse in front closed the gap as a result his horse dropped back and thereafter failed to respond at any stage. Trainer Adil Dajee said that this was the first run of the horse under his charge and the horse had shown no form in Mumbai and he had fancied the horse in this race only on the basis of his final work out and he was disappointed with this run.) He said that the horse had returned sound after the race.
Jockey Imran Chisty confirmed the instructions and added that after the start the horse did not show speed and he had to keep pushing all the way.
The video recording of Race No.19 was viewed and it was pointed out to Jockey Imran Chisty that soon after the start there was a gap along the rails which he did not attempt to take. Jockey Imran Chisty said that the horse did not show speed and he had to keep pushing all the way to maintain his position and when the gap appeared, his horse’s head was on the front horse’s quarters who had already started shifting in and hence had to stop pushing at that stage because if had kept pushing the horse, there were chances of the horse clipping the front runner. He said that he had done his best but the horse did not respond in any part of the race.
After scrutinizing the log books, the explanation tendered by the Trainer and Jockey were noted.

RE : STEWARDS ENQUIRY IN RACE NO.37 – THE HURRICANE PLATE RUN ON 1ST AUGUST, 2010 – JOCKEY LADJADJ STEPHANE, RIDER OF “TEQUILA” – FOUL RIDING :
The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Saturday, 14th August, 2010 interviewed Jockey Ladjadj Stephane, the rider of TEQUILA along with his Spokesman, Mr.Narendra Lagad, for foul riding in the above race. The Stewards considered the submissions made by Jockey Ladjadj Stephane/his Spokesman as also his witness Jockey Neeraj Rawal. They also considered an apology letter dated 1st August, 2010 from Jockey Ladjadj Stephane for his behavior in the Stewards Room on 1st August, 2010. Having viewed the video recording of Race No.37 (all angles) in slow as well as in normal motion, as also the blow up of the incident and having deliberated on the matter, the Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey Ladjadj Stephane in the subject case and held him guilty of foul riding on his mount TEQUILA. However, keeping in mind the plea made by him/his Spokesman, the Stewards took a lenient view in the matter and decided to suspend his Jockey’s license w.e.f. 29th August, 2010 till the end of Pune Meeting 2010 (both days inclusive) (Not permitted to ride work).
