ADDITIONAL REPORTS:
ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “EVANGELINE” IN RACE NO.104 – THE RADICAL FORCE PLATE (DIV.II) RUN ON 29TH JANUARY, 2021 :
The Stewards of the Club at their meetings held on Sunday, 7th March, 2021 considered the evidence obtained by the Stipendiary Stewards in the above enquiry. They interviewed Trainer Vishal Gaikwad, Jockey Kishore Kadam as also Jockey S.Zervan who had ridden the filly in Race No.46 and having heard them, having viewed the video recording of the race in question as also the previous two runs run during the current Mumbai Meeting 2020/21 and having deliberated the matter, the Stewards were not satisfied with the running and riding of EVANGELINE in Race No.104. However, in view of Jockey Kishore Kadam’s admission before the Stewards that he has issues with his right shoulder and cannot use the whip freely with the right hand, the Stewards directed the Chief Stipendiary Steward to have him examined by an Orthopedic Doctor and thereafter place the matter before them. In the mean time Jockey Kishore Kadam was not allowed to accept any rides.
The Stewards of the Club at their meetings held on Sunday, 14th March, 2021 considered all papers and proceedings before them including the evaluation report from the Orthopedic & Joint Replacement Surgeon Dr.Darius F.Soonawalla on Jockey Kishore Kadam. They considered the submissions made by Tr.Vishal Gaikwad, Jockey Kishore Kadam/his Spokesman Mr.Neeraj Rawal and Jockey S.Zervan who rode the filly in Race No.78 and having viewed the video recording of the race in question, the filly’s two previous starts i.e. Race No.46 and Race No.78, Jockey Kishore Kadam’s two winnings mounts i.e. Race No.70 run during the Pune Meeting 2018 and Race No.17 run during the Mumbai Meeting 2019/20 as also his two rides i.e. Race No.34 where he finished third on NOBLE HEIR and Race No.130 where he finished fourth on SAFDAR during the current Mumbai Meeting and having deliberated the matter at length, the Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Trainer Vishal Gaikwad and held him guilty of unsatisfactory running of the filly EVANGELINE in Race No.104. In that, the Stewards were not happy with his approach as a Trainer in this case wherein he admitted in the enquiry that he knew that EVANGELINE would run as a public fancy in Race No.104. He was also aware that EVANGELINE is a big filly, she has the habit of hanging-in and she is a difficult ride. Despite this, he chose to declare Jockey Kishore Kadam in Race No.104 when his retained Jockey S.Zervan was available. Further, it was evident from the video recording of Jockey Kishore Kadam’s past races that he has weakness in his right shoulder and he had misled the Stewards that he was unaware of this fact since Jockey Kishore Kadam has been working for his stable for the past five years and works 7 to 8 horses daily and has also ridden for him in races and that he had deliberately declared Jockey Kishore Kadam being fully aware that he would not be able to handle the filly in this race as well as say a Jockey like S. Zervan.
After deliberating the matter at length and taking an overall view, the Stewards of the Club decided :-
i) To suspend Mr.Vishal Gaikwad’s Trainer’s licence for a period of 30 days i.e. w.e.f. 4th April,2021 till the end of Mumbai Meeting 2020/21 and thereafter, not to grant him a Trainer’s licence if he applies for the same, up to and inclusive of 3rd May, 2021 for unsatisfactory running of his charge.
ii) To fine him a sum of Rs.10,000/- for giving misleading evidence.
The Stewards were also not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey Kishore Kadam. However, in view of his plea before the Stewards to give him one last chance to improve his riding skills, the Stewards of the Club decided not to take action against him in this case. However, they decided to give him 30 days time to work on his action and satisfy the Stipendiary Stewards in the Mock Races that there is improvement in his riding skills. During this period of 30 days he was not be permitted to accept rides but he was allowed to ride work/mock races.
