HIGHLANDER (P.Trevor) was reluctant to be stalled. Trainer Rehanullah Khan has been asked to give the gelding more gate practice and show him to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.

An objection was lodged by App.Yash Narredu, rider of THE GENERAL (Placed Second) against HIGHLANDER (P.Trevor, Placed First). The reason being, passing 300 metres, HIGHLANDER started coming on to him and then crossed him and took his ground, whereby he had to stop riding for a stride and pull his horse out, which cost him the race.

After considering the submissions made by Jockey P.Trevor and App.Yash Narredu who was accompanied by his Master, Trainer M.Narredu, in conjunction with that of the Stipendiary Stewards  and relying on their judgment, the Stewards decided to over-rule the objection.

Commencing from 2200 metres, AL SHAMSHEER (Dashrath Singh) ran wide out and continued to do so till about 1200 metres. The Jockey explained that the gelding ran away with him and he found it difficult to control him, so much so, that later on near about 600 meters the gelding fizzled out. He added that the gelding had behaved in a similar manner in its previous outing but to a lesser degree. Tr.Narendra Lagad has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the gelding.

Trainer Narendra Lagad and Jockey V. Chandrakant were questioned regarding the riding of STAYING ALIVE. The Instructions were to ride his own race and to do his best.  The Jockey was observed to have ridden feebly in the early part of the straight, and in the final 100 metres when the gelding responded under the use of the whip, the Jockey was observed to have put his hands down which possibly cost him the race. Not being satisfied with the explanation tendered, the matter was reported to the Stewards.

The Stewards after the last race interviewed Trainer Narendra Lagad and Jockey V.Chandrakant and having heard them and having viewed the video recording of the race, were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey V.Chandrakant and decided to suspend his Jockey’s license w.e.f. 31st January, 2015 to 1st March, 2015 (both days inclusive) for incompetent and unsatisfactory riding (permitted to ride work/mock race). Further, the Stewards were also not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Trainer Narendra Lagad and held the view that the Jockey would not have ridden in this manner unless he had the Trainer’s tacit approval. Therefore, they decided to fine him a sum of Rs.10,000/-.

The Sr.V.O. reported that STAYING ALIVE was examined at the stables after the race and was found to be sound.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “ACKER BILK” IN RACE NO.96 – THE THUNDER BIRD PLATE RUN ON 1ST JANUARY, 2015 :

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Mansoor Shah and Jockey Ishwar Pardeshi in the above connection. Trainer Mansoor Shah said that he had instructed the Jockey to take a good jump and be in a forward position and to do his best. He said that the horse raced thrice during the Pune Meeting 2014 and thrice during the current Mumbai Meeting but was still a maiden and in his opinion the horse is still immature.

Jockey Ishwar Pardeshi confirmed the instructions and added that soon after the start he received interference and could not sit in a forward position. Thereafter, there were horses in front of him and hence he brought the horse out and did his best.

The video recording of the race was viewed and it was pointed out to Jockey Ishwar Pardeshi that after the interference at the start he had urged the horse and was in 3rd or 4th position but for no apparent reason he had lost position approaching 600 metres and he was not vigorous in his riding effort in the straight. Jockey Ishwar Pardeshi said that entering the home straight he was on the wide outside and he did not want to travel further wide and hence he tapped the horse on the left and brought him in and thereafter he has ridden out the horse.

Not being satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey Ishwar Pardeshi he has been severely cautioned for feeble handling of his mount.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE POOR PERFORMANCE OF “WISH UPON A STAR” COUPLED WITH THE DRIFT IN ODDS, IN RACE NO.104– THE RAO SAHEB D.K.PARKAR TROPHY (DIV.I) RUN ON 1ST JANUARY, 2015 :

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Mansoor Shah and Jockey Dashrath Singh in the above connection. Trainer Mansoor Shah said that Jockey Dashrath Singh had won on this horse in the previous run and he knows the horse, hence he had told the Jockey to ride his own race. Jockey Dashrath Singh said that in the previous run which he won, the trainer had told him to be well up and even if the horse hits the front it was okay but this time the Trainer told him to ride his own race. He said that he wanted to sit well up but could not do so since he was squeezed out by horses on either side at the start. Thereafter, on entering the straight, Jockey Y.S.Srinath (PENNY LANE) shifted out whereby a gap opened on the inside which he tried to take but PENNY LANE again shifted in and he had to check his mount and he did not get an opening to ride out. He said that after the race he had reported this incident to the Stipendiary Stewards.

When questioned regarding the drift in odds, Trainer Mansoor Shah said that the horse had won well last time out for which he had received a penalty of 14 points and he gave the horse a fighting chance in this race. He said that  there were few other horses who were backed down in this race.  He added that this time the horse was competing with younger horses who had just turned 5 years old on 1st January, 2015.

After viewing the video recording of the race, the explanation tendered by the Trainer and Jockey was noted.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE POOR PERFORMANCE OF “ADAMS SPIRIT” IN RACE NO.100– THE WARSAW PACT PLATE RUN ON 1ST JANUARY, 2015 :

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Adhirajsingh Jodha and Jockey Kavraj Singh in the above connection. Trainer Adhirajsingh Jodha said that ADAMS SPIRIT has the habit of jumping out slow and he had told the Jockey that in case the mare jumps out slow then don’t try to brush her up because she may get keen and start fighting for her head, sit last or second last or in the mid bunch where she is comfortable and to ride out in the straight. When asked as to why he raced the mare with Blinkers this time, Trainer Adhirajsingh Jodha said that in the previous race when Jockey D.K.Ashish rode her, she came up well in the straight but was not passing the last horse and even in work she did not pass horses. Therefore, he tried Blinkers on her in work and she showed improvement so he raced her with Blinkers this time and had fancied her. He said that the mare ran a disappointing race, however, it may not be due to Blinkers. He said that the mare has placed second once over 1600 metres and has won a race over 1400 metres, therefore he would race her over 1400 metres next time.

Jockey Kavraj Singh confirmed the instructions. He said that coming into the straight when he rode out, the mare did not respond and therefore he did not put pressure on her.

Trainer Adhirajsingh Jodha said that this boy uses the whip too hard and hence he had told the Jockey that if the mare is not in contention, then don’t use the whip but ride her out hands and heels.

The video recording of Race No.100 was viewed and it was pointed out to Jockey Kavraj Singh that he was not vigorous in his riding effort in the straight. Jockey Kavraj Singh reiterated that the mare was not responding therefore, he did not put pressure on her

Not being satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey Kavraj Singh, he has been fined Rs.3,000/- for failing to persevere with his mount past the post and he was severely cautioned for the future.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE POOR PERFORMANCE OF “QUEST FOR LOVE” IN RACE NO.101– THE KUSUMBEN DHIRUBHAI SHAH TROPHY RUN ON 1ST JANUARY, 2015 :

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer H.J.Antia and Jockey S.P.Ranjane in the above connection. Trainer H.J.Antia said that this horse likes to have his own way in the front which he did not get a chance to do in this race. He said that QUEST FOR LOVE has won only one race in his career and in the previous race where he placed second to TOP COMMANDER, it was a four horse field and it was a false run race where his horse got a chance to run alone in the front, whereas in the race in question, Jockey S.P.Ranjane pushed the horse for nearly 75 metres after the start but LA FEMME FLEUR (S.Zervan) was sitting very handy in the front and outpaced his horse. He said that he had fancied the horse in Place and admitted that the horse had not run up to the mark for the reasons stated above.

Jockey S.P.Ranjane confirmed the instructions and said that he did try to hit the front but LA FEMME FLEUR was too fast and hence he sat second and did his best.

The explanation tendered by the Trainer and Jockey was noted and both were informed that a watch would be kept on the future running of this horse.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “BROWN DYNAMITE” IN RACE NO.102 – THE RAO SAHEB D.K.PARKAR TROPHY (DIV.II) RUN ON 1ST JANUARY, 2015 :

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer S.K.Sunderji and Jockey Vikram Jodha in the above connection. Trainer S.K.Sunderji said that he had instructed the Jockey to take a good jump and sit in 2nd/3rd/4th position and to do his best. He admitted that the Jockey should have ridden a better race but he had ridden as per his calibre. He said that the horse was responding ever so slowly and even if the Jockey had gone all out, maximum the horse would have finished fourth.

Jockey Vikram Jodha confirmed the instructions and added that he was sitting in second position but between the 1000 metres and 800 metres, ALECTAR (D.K.Ashish) was keen and the Jockey could not control the horse and was leaning inwards and since there was a horse on his inside, he had to check his mount at that stage to avoid clipping and fell back to 3rd/4th position. Thereafter, rounding the bend, MAQSAD who was racing ahead, started dropping back, so he brought his horse out and made his move and in the straight when ALECTAR (D.K.Ashish) shifted out he saw a gap open on the inside and decided to come the shortest way but ALECTAR again shifted in and closed his gap due to which he had to check his horse and pull him out again.

After viewing the video recording of the race, the explanation tendered by the Trainer and Jockey was noted.
