ADDITIONAL REPORTS :
RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE POOR / BELOW EXPECTATION PERFORMANCE OF “SWEEP ASIDE” IN RACE NO.24 – THE VALLABHDAS H.ADWALIA TROPHY (1600 METRES) RUN ON 1st DECEMBER, 2016:
Trainer C. D. Katrak was questioned in the above connection. He said that SWEEP ASIDE had worked well in Pune and he had fancied the filly in this race. He said that the filly was carrying bottom weight and he had instructed Jockey A. Sandesh to hit the front, come the shortest way home and to do his best and he was aghast with the filly’s poor performance. The video of the race was viewed and when asked for his observation, Tr. C. D. Katrak said that the filly was drawn on the outside and the Jockey took a jump and settled her on the outside and thereafter gradually improved his position and went to the front and came the shortest way home. He said that he was happy with her positioning at that stage, however, the filly just stopped at the 2 furlong as though she had hit a wall. Trainer C. D. Katrak was specifically asked whether the filly had returned sound since the Jockey had reported after the race that the filly was in distress during the race and furthermore, she had stumbled after the race and dislodged the rider and her action at that stage looked bad. Trainer C. D. Katrak agreed that her right fore leg action looked bad in the last part, however, the filly trotted sound and even though the filly did not cough after the race, he had suspected that she may have bled internally and had got the filly scoped by Dr. Khambatta at 8.30 p.m who found her to be EIPH between Gr.I and Gr.II which was of no consequence, but he felt that this may not be the true picture since the filly was scoped much later. He reiterated that the filly had returned sound and also had normal feed and he could not think of any reason for her poor performance. He further pointed out that the body weight of this filly as well as his other runner BULLRUN displayed on the screen on the race day was incorrect because he weighed both the horses the next day and found them to be nearly 8 kg more than the weight displayed during the races which was absurd because all horses lose weight after a race.
Jockey A. Sandesh confirmed the instructions and stated that passing the 7 furlongs he felt that the filly was uncomfortable and he was scared that she may come down and had reported the same to the Stipes after the race.
Having heard the submissions made, viewing the video of the race and scrutinizing the log books, the explanation tendered by Trainer C. D. Katrak was noted for future reference.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE POOR / BELOW EXPECTATION PERFORMANCE OF “IRISES” IN RACE NO.24 – THE VALLABHDAS H.ADWALIA TROPHY (1600 METRES) RUN ON 1st DECEMBER, 2016:
Trainer Adhirajsingh Jodha was questioned in the above connection. He said that IRISES had worked well and he had fancied the filly in this race. He said that the filly was drawn-8 and he had instructed Jockey Y. S. Srinath to take a jump and if nobody goes to the front then he should go to the front without pushing or else to try and settle her in 3rd/4th position and to do his best in the straight. The video of the race was viewed and when asked for his observation, Tr. Adhirajsingh Jodha said that the filly was flat from the 2 furlongs, maybe since she was racing on a new track and also this was her first run in Mumbai. He said that the filly had returned sound and also did not cough after the race.
Having heard the submissions made and viewing the video of the race and scrutinizing the log books, the explanation tendered by Trainer Adhirajsingh Jodha was noted for future reference.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “DIWALI LIGHTS” IN RACE NO.27 – THE FREE RADICAL PLATE (DIV.II) (1200 METRES) RUN ON 1st DECEMBER, 2016:
Trainer H. J. Antia and Jockey Vikram Jodha were questioned in the above connection. Trainer H. J. Antia said that DIWALI LIGHTS is a 5-year-old horse and was still a maiden, his best run was in Race No.22 during the just concluded Pune Meeting where he came from behind to finish fourth. He said that the horse was owned by him and he was trying his best to win a race with him. He said that the horse lacks early speed and has never been able to hit the front even though he did instruct Jockeys in the past to hit the front. Therefore, in the race in question, he had instructed Jockey Vikram Jodha to take a jump and settle the horse and coming into the straight to do his best. The video of the race was viewed and when asked for his observation, he said that the horse lost pace just before the bend and the Jockey was already at him and used the whip twice and has ridden out the horse to the best of his capability and he was satisfied with the riding. He said that he was planning to race next over 1400 metres.
Jockey Vikram Jodha confirmed the instructions and stated that he has ridden out the horse to the best of his ability.
The video of the race was viewed again and it was pointed out to Jockey Vikram Jodha that he was lacking in his riding effort in the straight. Jockey Vikram Jodha reiterated that he had done his best.
Having heard the submissions made and viewing the video of the race and keeping in mind that DIWALI LIGHTS was a 5-year old horse who was still a maiden no action was initiated against Trainer H. J. Antia. However, he was told that the enquiry was being kept open and a close watch will be kept on the future running of this horse and Jockey Vikram Jodha has been warned to ride out his mounts more vigorously in the future.
-------------------------
RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “SLAM DUNK” IN RACE NO.29 – THE FREE RADICAL PLATE (DIV.I) (1200 METRES) RUN ON 1st DECEMBER, 2016:
Trainer H. J. Antia and Jockey Hanumant Singh were questioned in the above connection. Trainer H. J. Antia said that SLAM DUNK was drawn-1 and he had instructed the Jockey to hit the front and to do his best. The video of the race was viewed and when asked for his observation, Trainer H. J. Antia said that the Jockey had followed the instructions and done his best. When asked as to why he did not declare an allowance claiming boy on this horse, he said that the horse was owned by Dr. Mehli A. Nazir, Dr. Adi R. Nazir and Mr. Karl A. Nazir and as instructed by them, he has always declared Jockey Hanumant Singh whenever their horse ran in the last three years.
Jockey Hanumant Singh confirmed the instructions and said that the horse was hanging out from the start and he had done his best.
The video of the race was viewed again and it was pointed out to Jockey Hanumant Singh that he had used the whip only in back hand position and also he had put his hands down in the last 50 metres which nearly cost him the third place.
Having heard the submissions made and viewing the video of the race and keeping in mind that the Jockey was the owners’ choice, the explanation tendered by Trainer H. J. Antia was noted for future reference and he was asked to be consistent with the choice of the Jockey in future. Jockey Hanumant Singh was informed that the Stipendiary Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by him, however, keeping in mind that the horse was hanging out, he was being given the benefit of the doubt in this case and he was warned to ride out more vigorously in the future.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “SAFDAR” IN RACE NO.29 – THE FREE RADICAL PLATE (DIV.I) (1200 METRES) RUN ON 1st DECEMBER, 2016:
Trainer Rehanullah Khan and Jockey S. Mosin were questioned in the above connection. Trainer Rehanullah Khan stated that SAFDAR requires a couple of cracks to alert him and thereafter he needs hard whipping to get him going. Therefore, he had instructed Jockey S. Mosin to take a good jump, settle the horse in 3rd/4th position and maintain that position and coming into the straight, to give him a couple of soft taps to alert him and thereafter ride him out under whip and to do his best. When questioned regarding the choice of the Jockey, Trainer Rehanullah Khan said that Jockey N. S. Parmar had ridden this horse five times, having placed second once and won once. However, this horse requires a couple of hard whacks to get him going and the moment you relax he stops and he felt that Jockey N. S. Parmar was little soft and the horse took him for granted in the previous two runs. Therefore, in the race in question he declared Jockey S. Mosin who was known to be a whip happy Jockey. When specifically asked whether he could have won the race if the Jockey was little more vigorous in the straight, Trainer Rehanullah Khan said that when the horse shifted out under whip, the Jockey rightly stopped using the whip and he felt that the boy was not competent enough to change the whip hand immediately. When asked whether he was satisfied with the Jockey’s riding effort in the last 50 metres, Tr. Rehanullah Khan replied in the affirmative.
The video of the race was viewed and it was pointed out to Trainer Rehanullah Khan that if the Jockey had changed his whip hand and ridden out the horse more vigorously, he may have won the race.
Thereafter the winning mounts of Jockey S. Mosin i.e. Race No.201 (RISING BRAVE) and Race No.61 (HOPE SPRINGS) run during the Pune Meeting 2016 were viewed. It was observed that Jockey S. Mosin was much more vigorous in his riding effort in both these races and also he was competent enough to change his whip hand and he had ample time to do so in the race in question which he failed to do and this had cost him the race.
Trainer Rehanullah Khan stated that SAFDAR was a different horse, the moment you relax on him he stops. He admitted that Jockey S. Mosin could have changed the whip hand after a few cracks, however, he felt that there was a difference in the way he uses the whip with the right hand and left hand.
Thereafter the video of Race No.97 which was won by SAFDAR (N. S. Parmar) was viewed.
To a specific question, Jockey S. Mosin said that in work the horse has the habit of hanging in and therefore he had kept the whip in his left hand. However, on entering the straight, when he used the whip twice the horse started shifting in and therefore he changed the whip hand and when he again used it, the horse shifted out and then got the support of the horse on the outside and started galloping. He iterated that he had done his best.
Having heard the submissions made and viewing the video of the race in question as also the winning race of SAFDAR (Race No.97 run during the Pune Meeting 2016) and Jockey S. Mosin’s two winning mounts during the Pune Meeting 2016 i.e. on HOPE SPRINGS in Race No.61 and RISING BRAVE in Race No.201, the Stipendiary Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey S. Mosin and decided to suspend his Jockey’s license for one race day for incompetent riding.
