RE : RACE NO.248 – THE COUNT THE STEPS PLATE (DIV.II) RUN ON 8TH MARCH, 2012 – JOCKEY B.PRAKASH, RIDER OF “MUMBAI KING” – REPORTED TO THE STEWARDS FOR CARELESS RIDING :

The Stewards at their meeting held on Sunday, 11th March, 2012 interviewed Jockey B.Prakash in the above connection and having heard him and having viewed the video recording of the race, the Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by him decided to fine him a sum of Rs.20,000/- for failing to exercise proper control over his mount. In that, his mount shifted in under use of the whip in the final 100 metres and took the running of RIO DEL RAY (S.Zervan) who received interference and he did not make sufficient efforts to correct the horse.

----------------------------

ENQUIRY INTO THE COMPARATIVE PERFORMANCE OF “LAZOR RAZOR” IN RACE NO.210 – THE R.M.SHAH – MIDCO TROPHY (DIV.II) RUN ON 19/02/2012 WHICH THE GELDING WON AS COMPARED TO ITS PREVIOUS RUNS DURING THE CURRENT MUMBAI MEETING 2011/12 :

Trainer Narendra Lagad and Jockey Akash Agarwal were questioned in the above connection.  Trainer Lagad said that LAZOR RAZOR raced five times during the Pune Meeting 2011, twice in races for 3-year-old horses, Terms Maiden and three times in a higher Class (20 to 46) as compared to this time and he showed no form in any of the races. After coming to Mumbai also the horse was not looking good and was having his winter coat and his first two runs in Mumbai over 1000 metres and 1400 metres were poor. Therefore, he gave the horse two months time to improve and he started looking well and hence he entered him in Race No.182 over 1200 metres and gave him a chance. Tr.Lagad said that in Race No.182, if it was not for poor handling by Jockey Akash Agarwal, the horse would have been on board. He said that his instructions in all races were similar, i.e. to sit well up and to do the best, however, Jockey Akash Agarwal was not able to sit well up and travelled very wide in the straight thereby losing too much ground and LAZOR RAZOR was the fastest moving horse towards the end. He said that there was a common horse MONEY STRIKE who had finished about 1-1/2 length ahead of LAZOR RAZOR in Race No.182, but if it was not for the poor handling by Jockey Akash Agarwal, LAZOR RAZOR would have beaten MONEY STRIKE in Race No.182 and that race was an indicator that his horse was a winner next time out and on the basis of that run he had fancied the horse in Race No.210. Also, he declared Jockey Trevor Patel this time whose riding skills made the difference since the boy took the shortest route home and managed to win the race.

Jockey Akash Agarwal confirmed the instructions and said that the horse did not have early speed and hence he was not able to sit well up as instructed and entering the straight when he made his move from the outside, the horse drifted wide and he had done his best.

The explanation tendered by Trainer Narendra Lagad and Jockey Akash Agarwal was noted.

ENQUIRY INTO THE INCONSISTENT PERFORMANCE OF “HOME ALONE” IN RACE NO.236 – THE HONG KONG JOCKEY CLUB TROPHY RUN ON 26/02/2012 WHICH THE GELDING WON AS COMPARED TO ITS PREVIOUS RUN IN RACE NO.193 WHERE HE WAS UNPLACED:

Trainer Dallas Todywalla was questioned in the above connection.  He said that HOME ALONE won its maiden race in Pune over 1400 metres beating STORMING HEART and ZAKYNTHOS and thereafter ran a good second, however, his last run in Pune over 1600 metres, where he was fancied strongly, the horse performed poorly and he was called for an enquiry at which time he had explained that probably the horse does not perform well in humid weather. Subsequently, after coming to Mumbai, he gave the horse a mock race and then ran him over 1200 metres and the horse won unfancied. Subsequently, at the Owner’s request, he again ran the horse over his Pune Winning distance of 1400 metres but the horse performed poorly. Tr.Todywalla said that the Owner always felt that this horse was bred to stay and he was targeted for the Classics, however, after the horse’s first win in Mumbai over 1200 metres and his poor run over 1400 metres in the next outing, he disagreed with the Owner because in a 1400 metres race, the pace is normally slower and when the horse is in a well up position, the Jockey has hold of him which he probably does not like and does not respond when asked for an effort towards the end as he did in his last run in Pune over 1600 metres and in Race No.193 over 1400 metres in Mumbai, whereas in a 1200 metres race the pace being faster, he gets a chance to settle behind. Therefore, after consultation with the Owner, he again decided to switch him over to 1200 metres and accepted to race him in Race No.236 over 1200 metres but did not fancy him considering his poor run last time out, however, he was lucky that this was the second last race of the day and the weather was good and the horse won the race. Trainer Dallas Todywalla said that he has not changed the work or feed pattern. When asked to explain the improvement shown by his horse vis-à-vis the common horse ARCTIC MINSTREL, Tr.Todywalla said that Race No.193 was over 1400 metres where ARCTIC MINSTREL had come from behind to beat his horse whereas this time his horse had beaten ARCTIC MINSTREL over 1200 metres, which is probably more suitable to his horse.

The explanation tendered by Trainer Dallas Todywalla was noted. However, his attention was drawn to the Calendar Notification Re : Comparative Performance of Horses winning within a short span of time” and he was warned to be more careful in the future.
