RE: APPEAL FROM JOCKEY KISHORE KADAM AGAINST THE DECISION OF THE STEWARDS OF THE CLUB IN RESPECT OF SUSPENSION OF HIS JOCKEY’S LICENSE W.E.F. 11TH OCTOBER 2015 TO 26TH OCTOBER 2015 AND 15TH NOVEMBER 2015 FOR UNSATISFACTORY RIDING ON HIS MOUNT “SHE IS SPECIAL” – IN RACE NO 132 -THE JUVENTUS TROPHY (DIV-I) RUN ON 13TH SEPTEMBER 2015 :

The Board of Appeal at its meeting held on 8th October 2015 considered Appeal dated 2nd October 2015 from Jockey Kishore Kadam.  The Board of Appeal having studied all documents and papers that were submitted and having heard the submissions made by Jockey Kishore Kadam and his Spokesman, Mr. S Kapoor, deliberated on the matter at length and having applied their minds to the entire facts of the case, the Board noted that the filly had taken a level jump and then was restrained. The filly was keen to gallop which can be borne out from the high action of her fore legs. In these circumstances, he may have lost the right stirrup and due to all this, the filly lost considerable ground after the start which was detrimental to the chances of the filly in the race. It was further noticed that Jockey Kishore Kadam has not made sufficient efforts to ride out his mount during the race and therefore the Board felt that his riding was Unsatisfactory.Therefore, the Board of Appeal decided to reject the Appeal and as such, the decision of the Stewards stand. His Deposit for the Appeal was forfeited.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNING AND RIDING OF “REMEMBER ME” (DRAWN-4) IN RACE NO.135 – THE MYSORE RACE CLUB TROPHY RUN ON 19TH SEPTEMBER, 2015 – TRAINER IMTIAZ A.SAIT AND JOCKEY SURAJ NARREDU :

Trainer Imtiaz A.Sait was questioned alone as Jockey Suraj Narredu was not available. The Trainer stated that he was drawn-4 out of 4 horses and he told the Jockey that “there will be no pace in the race. The horse has a very soft mouth and he tends to throw his head up (fight for his head) if you have to dictate, you dictate” (clarified to go to the front). The Jockey asked him what if he ends up in the front and the Trainer had replied that he should use his discretion and do his best.

After viewing the race in question and its previous races, when asked for his opinion, the Trainer stated that the Jockey has not tried to follow his instructions despite giving him explicit instructions and explaining the horse’s behavior and that the boy has ridden a very incompetent race.

Jockey Suraj Narredu was questioned after the last race on 3rd October, 2015 and he confirmed that the Trainer had told him to ride the horse as he found him. He said that the horse did not take a good jump and he found himself at the rear, however, since the pace was slow, he soon caught up with the field. He added that the horse has a soft mouth and in all her runs she has been lethargic at the start. Also, the horse has a very short burst. He also mentioned that the winner lost his whip  Jockey Suraj Narredu was told that the Trainer and the Owner have losdged a complaint against his riding since he fought with the horse for far too long.

After hearing the submissions of the Trainer and Jockey, viewing the video of the race as well as the previous races and keeping in mind that the horse was a favourite and the Trainer and Owner were both dissatisfied with the Jockey’s riding, the matter was reported to the Stewards for such action as deemed fit for not trying to follow the Trainer’s instructions.

The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on 10th October, 2015 interviewed Trainer Imtiaz A.Sait and Jockey Suraj Narredu in the above connection and having heard them and having viewed the video of the race, were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey Suraj Narredu and decided to suspend his Jockey’s license for 25th October, 2015 for not following the Trainer’s instructions and riding an illjudged race (permitted to ride work/mock race).

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “VICTORY DANCER” (DRAWN.9) IN RACE NO.137-THE PROTEUS PLATE (DIV.II), RUN ON SATURDAY 19th SEPTEMBER 2015.

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer H.J.Antia and Jockey P.Trevor  in the above connection. The video of the race was viewed and when questioned, Trainer H.J.Antia stated that he had instructed the Jockey to take a good jump and sit in a good position  but if the filly goes to the front on her own, then ride from there and to do his best. He added that after the race the Jockey had reported to him that he felt the filly was unsound. To a specific question, Tr.Antia stated that he had fancied the filly and if she had held her position at the 600 metres, she may have won the race. He said that he is not complaining against the Jockey but opined that the Jockey could have ridden a better race.

Jockey P.Trevor stated that he was instructed to sit well up and to do his best, however he received interference at the bend from BIG BANG (J.Chinoy) who had shifted out on to him. He also felt that the filly was uncomfortable in the straight.

After hearing the submissions made by the Trainer and the Jockey, considering that the filly was in the money and had returned sound after the race and that Jockey P.Trevor’s riding efforts in the straight were feeble, the matter was being reported to the Stewards for such action as deemed fit.

The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on 10th October, 2015 interviewed Trainer H.J.Antia and Jockey P.Trevor in the above connection and having heard them and having viewed the video of the race, were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey P.Trevor. However, considering his clean record at this centre, the Stewards decided to give him the benefit of the doubt for “unsatisfactory riding” and held him guilty of riding an injudicious race. Therefore, the Stewards decided :-

i)         To suspend his Jockey’s license for 25th October, 2015 and for 19th November, 2015;

ii)       To fine him a sum of Rs.10,000/-.

RE:ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “NAUMEE” (DRAWN. 2) IN RACE NO.162-THE AVVENTURA POWERED BY ABARTH TROPHY , RUN ON SUNDAY 27th SEPTEMBER 2015.

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Faisal A. Abbas and Jockey S.Sunil in the above connection. The video of the race was viewed and when questioned, Trainer Faisal A.Abbas stated that he had instructed the Jockey to  jump and sit 3rd /4th, be in a striking position, come into the straight and to do his best. The Jockey confirmed the instructions. To a specific question, Trainer Faisal A.Abbas stated that the Jockey was sitting within 3 to 4 lengths of the front running horses and thereafter he pulled the filly out at the top of the straight and got into her, however, he received interference because of the front horses shifting out, despite which the filly lost by a short head. On being further questioned, the Trainer stated that he had fancied the filly (this statement is not substantiated by the odds). He added that since he  had two runners in the race, he had told both the Jockeys to do their best, however he had fancied MARCUS AURELIUS much more keeping in mind the geldings last run which was under the charge of a different Trainer  and that he was happy with the riding effort of Jockey S.Sunil.

Jockey S.Sunil stated that after the jump he was in a striking position and thereafter coming into the straight he gave the filly a chance to get into her stride and then gave her a couple of cracks and rode out.

After hearing the submissions made by the Trainer and Jockey and viewing the video of the race, the Stipendiary Stewards felt that the Jockey has not made sufficient efforts to ride out his mount in the straight and may have won this race. Considering that Trainer Faisal A.Abbas was happy with the Jockeys riding effort, both the Trainer and Jockey were reported to the Stewards for unsatisfactory running and riding of “NAUMEE” specially as the winner of the race is trained by the same Trainer.

The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on 10th October, 2015 interviewed Trainer Faisal A.Abbas and Jockey S.Sunil who was accompanied by his Spokesman, Mr.S.Kapoor. Having heard the submissions made and having viewed the video of the race, the Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by the Trainer and Jockey and decided :-

a)       to fine Tr.Faisal A.Abbas a sum of Rs.20,000/- for unsatisfactory running of his charge NAUMEE;

b)       to suspend Mr.S.Sunil’s Jockey’s license for 25th October, 2015 and from 19th November, 2015 to 17th December, 2015 for unsatisfactory riding on his mount NAUMEE (permitted to ride work/mock race).

RE:ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “SHIVALIK SKIES” (DRAWN. 9) IN RACE NO.173-THE GOBELIN PLATE DIV.I, RUN ON SATURDAY 3rd OCTOBER  2015.

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Adil Dajee and Jockey Amyn Merchant in the above connection. The video of the race was viewed and when questioned, Trainer Adil Dajee stated that SHIVALIK SKIES came to him from Mr.C.D.Katrak on the 1st or 2nd of September 2015 and she raced under his charge for the first time. He said that she is a temperamental filly and even during morning track work she is troublesome to work. He said that he had instructed the Jockey to take a good jump and settle her, gradually improve his position and to do his best in the straight. He said that he was satisfied with the Jockey’s riding and on the contrary he felt that the Jockey had used the whip too much considering that she is a temperamental filly. On being questioned on his choice of the Jockey, Tr.Adil Dajee said that he first approached Jockey P.Kamlesh to ride this filly however he declined since he had prior engagements at Kolkata, therefore, he declared Jockey Amyn Merchant since he had ridden the filly in the past. He said that he is planning to run the filly next time over a longer trip  and the fact that there are no Mock Races, he was unable to prepare the filly for the same.

Jockey Amyn Merchant confirmed the instructions and stated that he had done his best. The video of the race was viewed again and it was pointed out to Amyn Merchant that he had not made an effort to get into a good position after the start. Further, in the straight he should have got into the filly.  Jockey Amyn Merchant stated that SHIVALIK SKIES is a temperamental filly and in her first run at Pune she was trying to stop soon after the start.

After hearing the submissions made, considering that the filly is still a maiden and also there being no mock races and the horse was at longer odds, the explanation tendered by the Trainer and Jockey was noted and the enquiry has been kept open for the next couple of runs.

RE:ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “SHANIA” (DRAWN. 9) IN RACE NO.176-THE ASHWAMEDHA TROPHY, RUN ON SATURDAY 3rd OCTOBER  2015.

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Nirad Karanjawala and Jockey Akash Agarwal in the above connection. The video of the race was viewed and when questioned, Trainer Nirad Karanjawala stated that he had informed the Jockey that the filly is running after 7 months and she may be rusty (out of form), hence to take a good jump and get into her and be with the field, ride her under cover and as the race progresses to gradually improve his position and coming into the straight, pull her out as she likes to gallop on the outside, give her a few cracks and ride out to the post. He said that he was not satisfied with the Jockey’s riding. On being questioned on the choice of Jockey, Tr.Nirad Karanjawala said that he wanted to claim allowance and had first approached App.S.A.Amit and App.G.Amit to ride the filly, however they had a ride in the race, therefore,  he declared Akash Agarwal since he was working the filly from the start of the season

Jockey Akash Agarwal confirmed the instructions and added that soon after the start the filly kept throwing her head up and was inclined to drift out, therefore, he settled her and gradually brought her in and did his best.

After hearing the submissions made by the Trainer and Jockey and viewing the video of the race, the Stipendiary Stewards were not satisfied as Jockey Akash Agarwal had no explanation to offer and he was lacking in his riding efforts. In that, he has not ridden the horse to instructions. Further, he has not ridden out the horse at all. Also, he accepted that if he had sat well up, he may have won the race. However, keeping in mind that Jockey Akash Agarwal had only three rides in the entire season, the Stipendiary Stewards took a lenient view and held him guilty of incompetent riding and not unsatisfactory riding and decided to suspend his Jockey’s license w.e.f. 24th October, 2015 to 25th October, 2015 and from 15th November, 2015 to 22nd November, 2015 (permitted to ride work/mock race). Further, he was advised to improve his riding skills before next accepting a ride.

RE : COMPLAINT FROM TRAINER P.SHROFF THAT JOCKEY P.KAMLESH (SHIVALIK SHOWERS) HAD DELIBERATELY KNOCKED HIS CHARGE “TIGER TOPS” (N.S.PARMAR) IN RACE NO.123 THE IDAR GOLD TROPHY (GR.3), RUN ON SUNDAY 13TH SEPTEMBER 2015

The Stewards of the Club considered the evidence obtained by the Stipendiary Stewards in the above enquiry. They interviewed Trainer P.Shroff and Jockey N.S.Parmar (TIGER TOPS) as also Trainer C.D.Katrak and Jockey P.Kamlesh (SHIVALIK SHOWERS). Having heard the submissions made and viewing the video of the incident, the Stewards decided to close the enquiry keeping in mind the under-mentioned reasons :-

1)            If Tr.P.Shroff believed that instructions were given by Trainer C.D.Katrak in the paddock to Jockey P.Kamlesh (SHIVALIK SHOWERS) to deliberately knock his filly TIGER TOPS, he should have immediately brought the same to the attention of the Stipendiary Stewards before the race, which he failed to do.

RE:ENQUIRY INTO THE POOR PERFORMANCE OF “AQUAMARINE” IN RACE NO.123-THE IDAR GOLD TROPHY (GR.3), RUN ON SUNDAY 13TH SEPTEMBER 2015.

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer P.Shroff and Jockey D.K.Ashish in the above connection. The Trainer opined that the Jockey rode a poor race, especially the way he handled the filly in the straight where he had continued to whip the horse with the right hand even though the horse was drifting out thus losing valuable ground, to which the Jockey had no explanation to offer. To another question, the Trainer confirmed that the horse was running with bandages for the first time but from here on it will run in bandages as he wants to give support to the horse’s legs.

Not being satisfied with the Jockey’s riding and keeping in mind the drift in odds and the Trainer’s opinion, the Stipendiary Stewards are reporting Jockey D.K.Ashish for unsatisfactory riding on his mount AQUAMARINE.

The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on 10th October, 2015 interviewed Trainer P.Shroff and Jockey D.K.Ashish in the above connection and having heard them and having viewed the video of the race, were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey D.K.Ashish, decided to suspend his Jockey’s license for 25th October, 2015 and from 19th November, 2015 to 22nd November, 2015 (both days inclusive) for riding an injudicious race on AQUAMARINE (permitted to ride work/mock race).
