ADDITIONAL REPORTS :

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE RIDING OF JOCKEY S.A.AMIT ON “SAFDAR” IN RACE NO.54  – THE STYLECRACKER BOROUGH STAKES RUN ON 16TH DECEMBER, 2018 :

Immediately after the race Trainer Rehanullah Khan had lodged a verbal complaint that he was not satisfied with the riding of Jockey S.A.Amit on SAFDAR.

Trainer Rehanullah Khan and Jockey S.A.Amit were questioned on 24th December, 2018 in the above connection. Jockey S.A.Amit said that he was instructed to sit in 3rd/4th/5th position, keep on urging him since he is a sluggish horse and to ride out in the straight.

Trainer Rehanullah Khan said that he had instructed the Jockey to jump out and try to sit in 3rd/4th/5th position and keep urging the horse, don’t lose position. He added that at the time when he gave a leg up, he mentioned to the Jockey that he did not mind even if he sat 5th but don’t sit 1st/2nd and to maintain his position. He said that SAFDAR was drawn-3 and he failed to understand how the Jockey found himself on the outside at the bend from an inner draw. Further, his main objection to the Jockey’s riding was that the horse took a good jump and wanted to go and the Jockey had all the chance and space to settle the horse as instructed, however, he held the horse for the first one and half furlongs and allowed horses to over take him from either side and dropped back to second last position. He said that if the Jockey had settled the horse as instructed, he would have finished much closer.

The video recording of Race No.54 was viewed and when asked to respond to the Trainer’s objection, Jockey S.A.Amit said that the horse took a quick jump and was very keen and tried to go to the front as such he had to hold him back a lot because his instructions were to sit in 4th/5th position. He said that in a similar incident in Pune he was instructed to sit behind but the horse was keen and he could not settle the horse and ultimately found himself in the front, so this time he tried his best to settle the horse.

Trainer Rehanullah Khan said that the Pune case is slightly different, there the Jockey went to the front because the Jockey behind kept shouting. However, in the race in question, the horse wanted to go and there was enough space and opportunity for the Jockey to follow the instructions, but he unnecessarily held the horse back for the first one and half furlongs and allowed the other horses to over take him and dropped back to the second last position. Jockey S.S.Amit reiterated that the horse was keen after the start and tried to go to the front hence he held him back because his instructions were not to sit in 1st/2nd position and thereafter HYANNIS shifted in whereby there was insufficient room and his horse was too keen and over reaching the horses in front, hence he continued holding him.  Trainer Rehanullah Khan contended that the Jockey could have easily settled the horse in 3rd/4th/5th position as instructed. He said that SAFDAR has always been a sluggish horse, he never bolts and in all his past races, he has always told the Jockeys to ensure that they do not lose position. However, this time the horse took a good jump and wants to move but the Jockey held him back and lost position.

The video recording of Race No.54 was viewed again and it was pointed out to Jockey S.A.Amit that he could have sat in 3rd/4th position as instructed and if he had done so, the horse would have finished closer.

The video recording of the horse’s previous run i.e. Race No.22 was viewed.

When questioned about the choice of the rider, Trainer Rehanullah Khan said that he wanted to declare Jockey T.S.Jodha but felt that he may not be able to do the weight and just when he was deciding who to declare, Jockey S.A.Amit called him up for some rides and hence declared him on this horse.

Thereafter the video recording of the horse’s winning race during the Pune Meeting 2018 i.e. Race No.177 as also the back view of Race No.54 was viewed.

Having heard the submissions made and having viewed the video recording of the race in question as also the horse’s two previous races, the Stipendiary Stewards had felt that Jockey S.A.Amit probably got nervous and in trying to settle the horse as instructed, he lost position, hence they had only cautioned him for the future.

However, since the horse subsequently won in Race No.71 – The Jehangir P.Dubash Trophy (1400 metres) on 30th December, 2018 the Stipendiary Stewards reopened the above enquiry and having questioned Jockey S.A.Amit, they decided to fine him a sum of Rs.10,000/- for failing to follow the Trainer’s instructions in Race No.54.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE DEATH OF dk b c “AHEARN” UNDER THE CHARGE OF TRAINER NIRAD KARANJAWALA:

Trainer Nirad Karanjawala was questioned with regard to the unusually large number of ticks found in the ears of his charge AHEARN.  He admitted that the ticks should not be in the horse’s ears. He also admitted that though his syce and Jamadar checked the horse, he should have also checked the horse himself and accepted his mistake.

Notwithstanding the Doctor’s report giving therein the reason that may have led to the horse’s death, keeping the welfare of the horses in mind, the Stipendiary Stewards held Trainer Nird Karanjawala guilty of negligence in discharging his duties as a trainer and decided to fine him a sum of Rs.5,000/-.
