RACE DAY REPORTS

RAILS WERE PLACED 3 METRES AWAY FROM ITS ORIGINAL POINT FROM 1400 METRES (MILE CHUTE) TO 1000 METRES, 5 METRES AWAY AT 800 METRES AND THEREAFTER 7 METRES AWAY UP TO THE WINNING POST. FOR THE RACES STARTING FROM THE BACK STRETCH, RAILS WERE PLACED FROM ITS ORIGINAL POINT FROM 1200 METRES LEADING TO 3 METRES AWAY 1000 METRES.

RACE NO.1(128) – THE WARSAW PACT PLATE (DIV.II): (About) 1400 Metres – Runners - 10

STORMYDAY (App.B.Nikhil) lost about 2 lengths at the start.

Near 100 metres SAMBA WARRIOR (Dashrath Singh) shifted out under the use of whip and took the running of ARCHIMEDES (S.Zervan) who was checked. Jockey Dashrath Singh has been cautioned.

After the race, SAMBA WARRIOR, QUEEN and SEDUCTRESS were found to be sound.

RACE NO.2(129) –THE GENERAL OBAIDULLAH KHAN TROPHY: (About) 2400 Metres –Runners - 5

MIGHTY KING (App.B Nikhil) lugged-out in the early part of the straight. Trainer Narendra Lagad has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the gelding.

After the race, STRATEGIC CHANGE was found to be sound but having a cut injury at the right hock. MIGHTY KING was found to be sound.

RACE NO.3(130) – THE WARSAW PACT PLATE (DIV.I): (About) 14000 Metres – Runners – 10

Trainer B.Prakash was questioned regarding the comparative performance of his charge MALKIA in this race which the filly won as compared to her previous run in Race No 90 run on 22 December 2013 where she was unplaced. The Trainer stated that the previous run was disappointing. This time there was change of two equipments i.e. Tongue Strap and Cross Nose Band, which has helped the filly. Also, in the previous race, the filly found herself up in the field which may have not suited her and therefore this time he had specifically asked the Jockey not to be up and ride her from rear position and let her race on her own which suited her. Whilst noting the explanation of the Trainer, he has been cautioned for running his charge within a short span of time.

After the race, ICE COOL and LAURUS PRIDE were found to be sound.

RACE NO.4(131) – THE RAMNIWAS RAMNARAIN RUIA GOLD CUP (GR.2): (About) 2000 Metres – Runners - 3

MURIOI (B.Sreekanth) was reluctant to be stalled. Trainer S.Ganapathy has been asked to give the colt more gate practice and show him to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.

After the race, MARS was observed to have a gum injury.

RACE NO.5(132) – THE PERCEIVED VALUE PLATE: (About) 1400 Metres – Runners - 14

Trainer Mansoor Shah has been fined Rs.3,000/- for putting in late Declaration in respect of his charge TUSCANIA.

After being stalled, DONATA (R.Shelar) started lashing out. The mare was taken out and examined by the Club’s V.O. and found to have sustained cut injuries on both the stifle, as such the mare was certified unfit to race and was withdrawn before coming under the Starter’s Order. DONATA was sent to the Equine Hospital in the Horse Ambulance for further management. Trainer Ivor Fernandes has been asked to give the mare more gate practice and show her to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race. Further, he has to obtain a fitness certificate for DONATA from the Club’s V.O. before next accepting with the mare to race.

PLATED (Akshay) jumped out awkwardly throwing its head and thereafter veered outwards losing 4 lengths. Trainer Himmat Singh has been asked to give the gelding more gate practice and show him to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.

ONLY WHITE (App.Sandeep Jadhav) also jumped out throwing its head.

ESTABLISH PREDATOR (Suraj Narredu, dr.8) jumped awkwardly outwards and made contact with JET STREAM (Shrikant Kamble, dr.9)

The saddle on TUSCANIA (C.S.Jodha) was observed to have slipped back during the race. As such, Trainer Mansoor Shah has been fined Rs.2,000/-.

After the race, ONLY WHITE was observed to have a cut injury at the right hind pastern. JENS SECRET and ICE RINK (examined on 10/01/2014) were found to be sound.

RACE NO.6(133) – THE INDIAN AIR FORCE TROPHY: (About) 1000 Metres – Runners – 12

MYKONOS (A.Sandesh) lugged-in and in the concluding stages of the race inconvenienced FONTANELLE (Malcolm Kharadi). Trainer C.D.Katrak has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the filly.

INTESAR (S.P.Ranjane) lugged-in in the straight. Trainer H.J.Antia has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the filly.

After the race, FREE VERSE was observed to have broken a blood vessel and is not to race for the stipulated ban period of four weeks. The mare has to be passed fit by the Club’s V.O. before next accepting to race.

After the race, MYKONOS, MOUNTAIN MYNAH and DIVINE SOLITAIRE were found to be sound. FONTANELLE had a cut injury at the left hock.

The Sr.V.O. reported that FONTANELLE was examined at the stables in the morning on 10/01/2014 and found to be sore by the left hind leg. The filly has to be passed fit by the Club’s VO before next accepting to race.

RACE NO.7(134) – THE CONTINUAL PLATE : (About) 1200 Metres – Runners – 11

SPEED KING (Imran Chisty) drifted outwards at the start losing ground.

Jockey N.S.Parmar (FORGOTTEN VOICE) and Jockey I.Pasha (MERCHANTOFVENICE) reported that their respective mounts lugged-in during the race. Trainers Dallas Todywalla and B Prakash have been asked to take remedial measures with their respective charge, before next accepting to race.

Jockey Suraj Narredu (HIGH EXPECTATION) reported that his mount ran green during the race.

After the race, SIR SONG was observed to have an abrasion at the right hind pastern and SPEED KING had a cut injury at the right hind bulb of heel. FORGOTTEN VOICE was found to be sound, but having wolf tooth on either side. Trainer Dallas Todywalla has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the filly.

RACE NO.8(135) – THE CARDINAL PLATE (DIV.II): (About) 1000 Metres – Runners – 18

GOLDEN GLORY (Altaf Sayyed) took a fly jump.

BLUE BAY (A.Sandesh) stumbled at the start.

Soon after the start, SCARLET OF HOPE (Shrikant Kamble, dr.15) shifted in sharply and went across the field and later went on to BLUE BAY (A.Sandesh), who in turn went on to RAJASHTHAN GLORY (J.Pradeep) who went across SUN HOT (S.K.Jadhav) who was steadied and then shifted in and tightened AFRICANA (Ishwar Pardeshi). Jockey Shrikant Kamble has been fined Rs.3,000/-.

GRAN AMIGO (Neeraj Rawal) lugged-in in the straight. Trainer Adhirajsingh Jodha has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the gelding.

RACE NO.9(136) – THE CARDINAL PLATE (DIV.I): (About) 1000 Metres – Runners – 18

At the start, GUNS N ROSES (V.Chandrakant, dr.6) jumped out awkwardly and jostled with VIXEN (R.Woodworth, dr.7) who in turn made contact with ZOE (Prabhu Naidu, dr.8) who had also jumped awkwardly inwards.

An enquiry has been initiated into the start taken by IZARRA (D.A.Naik) and a report will be submitted shortly.

RAJSAMMAN (App.Sandeep Jadhav, dr.17) came in sharply after the jump. App.Sandeep Jadhav has been severely cautioned.

After the race, RECKLESS and ENDLESS HORIZON were observed to have broken a blood vessel and are not to race for the stipulated ban period of four weeks. Both the horses have to be passed fit by the Club’s V.O. before next accepting to race.

After the race, ADIOS AMIGO was observed to have a cut injury at the right hind pastern and GUNS N ROSES had a gum injury. ENDLESS HORIZON and IZARRA (examined on 10/01/2014) were found to be sound.

The post race urine sample of the winner of 2^nd, 3^rd, 4^th, 7^th and 8^th race viz., WENTWORTH, MALKIA, MURIOI, RULE DOWNUNDER and SCARLET OF HOPE, as also that of SWASHBUCKLER and MARS (4^th race) and the special sample of ARCHIMEDES (1^st race), SONG SAA (3^rd race) and FONTANELLE and FREE VERSE (6^th race) and ENDLESS HORIZON (9^th race), were collected for detection of prohibited substance.

RE: HORSE OBSERVED TO HAVE BROKEN A BLOOD VESSEL DURING MORNING TRACK WORK :

The Sr.V.O. reported that WINDMILL LADY was observed to have broken a blood vessel after morning track work on 06/01/2014. Being a second time bleeder, the filly is not to race for the stipulated ban period of eight weeks and until passed fit by the Club’s V.O.

ENQUIRY INTO THE COMPARATIVE PERFORMANCE OF “NIGELLA” IN RACE NO.109 - THE 10^TH WORLD ZOROASTRIAN CONGRESS TROPHY (1600 METRES) RUN ON 29/12/2013 WHICH THE FILLY WON AS COMPARED TO HER PREVIOUS RUN IN RACE NO.51 (1400 METRES) RUN ON 8/12/2013) WHERE SHE WAS UNPLACED :

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer D.J.Surti and Jockey Zameer Sayyed in the above connection. Trainer D.J.Surti said that NIGELLA had previously won two races over 1400 metres and 1600 metres, however, he was advised by the sellers that the filly is bred to stay and therefore he had accepted with her in Race No.74 – The PRA Independence Million over 2000 metres and had fancied her strongly but she ran a disappointing race and so he switched her back to 1400 metres but she kept performing poorly in Class IV (rated 20-46) during the Pune Season, except in her last run at Pune in Class V (1 – 26) where she finished sixth but was only 2 lengths from the winner. Thereafter, he accepted with her in Race No.8 over 1400 metres during the current Mumbai Meeting but this being the first run of the Season and she was racing after a long gap, he did not give her much chance and she again performed poorly. He then accepted with her in Race No.51 again over 1400 metres where the field was strong and in this race the filly received interference or else she may have finished on board. Subsequently, he gave the filly a Mock Race where the filly showed improvement and on the basis of that Mock Race he gave her a slight chance in Race No.109 over 1600 metres and was very happy to win this race. Trainer D.J.Surti further explained that NIGELLA is an unsound filly and she is not genuine, she may perform well in one race and then perform poorly in the subsequent runs. He said that most of the times the filly comes back unsound after a race and has to be treated, she had come back unsound even after her Mock Race and had to be treated. When questioned why he did not give the ride to the same Jockey Zameer Sayyed in Race No.109, Trainer D.J.Surti said that keeping in mind that the filly had gone a good Mock Race, he gave her a slight chance this time and wanted to put up Apprentice S.Mosin and claim allowance but he was not available so he approached other Jockeys and since

nobody was available he reluctantly gave the ride to Jockey Prabhu Naidu. He opined that NIGELLA has limited ability and all her three wins are in Class V, she has always performed poorly in Class IV. Jockey Zameer Sayyed said that NIGELLA is an unsound filly and whilst riding her, if one holds her she runs better but when pushed she starts dropping back. He said that in Race No.51 he had received slight interference or else he may have finished a little better.

The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Thursday, 9^th January, 2014 considered the above report and the explanation tendered by the Trainer and Jockey was noted.

RE : POSITIVE REPORT OF THE COMPULSORY SAMPLE OF URINE TAKEN FROM dk b f “BULLSEYE” ON 6^TH DECEMBER, 2013 AS THE FILLY HAD ARRIVED FROM THE STUD FARM – SUSPENSION IMPOSED ON BULLSEYE :

The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Thursday, 9^th January, 2014 considered a letter dated 9^th January, 2014 from the Owner, Mr.Vijay Shirke in the above connection and in view of him voluntarily undertaking not to run the horse till the result of the confirmatory analysis of BULLSEYE is received, decided to remove the suspension imposed on the filly and the matter will be reconsidered once the result of the confirmatory analysis is received.
