RACE NO.3(245) – THE AMATEUR RIDERS’ CLUB CUP (DIV.I): (About) 1400 Metres. Runners – 11

An objection was lodged by Jockey Imran Chisty, rider of INDUS PRINCE (Placed Second) against SUPER BOLT (App.S.Joseph, Placed First). The reason being, 100 metres from the start, SUPER BOLT came in sharply whereby he had to check his mount and slow down. Thereafter, in the last 250 metres SUPER BOLT who was along the rails, shifted out whereby he got a clear opening along the rails and when he made his move SUPER BOLT moved out and again started coming in when his horse was on the quarters of SUPER BOLT, as a result he had to totally stop riding and ease up and this cost him a certain race.

After considering the submissions made by the Jockeys concerned as also Mr.Sangramsinh N.Joshi, Trainer of SUPER BOLT, in conjunction with that of the Stipendiary Stewards  and relying on their judgment, the Stewards upheld the objection and revised the order of placing of the race as under :

Trainer Adhirajsingh Jodha and Jockey Kavraj Singh were questioned regarding the running and riding of ALDERLY EDGE in the above race and having heard them and having viewed the video recording of the race, the Stipendiary Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey Kavraj Singh and decided to suspend his Jockey’s license for 22nd March, 2015 for not persevering with his mount in the straight (permitted to ride work/mock race).

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE COMPRATIVE PERFORMANCE OF “REACH THE STARS” IN RACE NO 193 - THE PLATINUM WORLD CUP (DIV.II) (1400 METRES – JOCKEY S.SUNIL) WHICH THE MARE WON AS COMPARED TO HER PREVIOUS RUN IN RACE NO.172 (1200 METRES – S.SUNIL) RUN ON 1ST FEBRUARY, 2015 WHERE IT WAS UNPLACED :

Trainer Faisal A.Abbas was questioned in the above connection. It was pointed out to Trainer Faisal A.Abbas that in the previous run which was 15 days earlier, the horse had finished approximately 13 lengths behind the winner whereas in Race No.193 the horse won comfortably without much effort. Trainer Faisal A.Abbas said that in the previous race the horse was drawn on the extreme outside (dr.18). He said that in Race No.193 which the horse won, the favourite NAZRANA was under enquiry.

The Stipendiary Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Trainer Faisal A.Abbas and held him guilty of contravening the Calendar Notification regarding improved performance of a horse in a short span of time, for the following reasons :-

The horse won in a short span of 15 days;

The horse had finished approximately 13 lengths from the winner in the previous race and subsequently won comfortably without much effort.

However, considering that there was no betting on the horse the day he won, the Stipendiary Stewards took a lenient view and only fined Trainer Faisal A.Abbas a sum of Rs.10,000/- and warned him to be more careful in the future.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE COMPRATIVE PERFORMANCE OF “CLOUDS OF GLORY” IN RACE NO 195 – THE GODREJ PROPERTIES BOTTOM’S UP CUP (DIV.II) (1000 METRES) RUN ON 15TH FEBRUARY, 2015 WHICH THE GELDING WON AS COMPARED TO ITS PREVIOUS RUN IN RACE NO.130 (1200 METRES – ANIL BAANDAL) RUN ON 14TH JANUARY , 2015 WHERE IT WAS UNPLACED– TRAINER ALTAF HUSSAIN:

Trainer Altaf Hussain was questioned in the above connection. It was pointed out to Trainer Altaf Hussain that in Race No.130 when ridden by Jockey Anil Baandal, the horse was at long odds and there was practically nil betting whereas in Race No.195 when ridden by App.Yash Narredu the horse opened at 6/1 and was backed down. Trainer Altaf Hussain said that the pattern of running in both the races was similar. He said that in. Race No.130 over 1200 metres the horse was drawn-18 in a field of 20 horses and although he finished 11th, he was approximately 6 ½ lengths from the winner. Subsequently he ran the horse after a gap of one month in Race No.195 over 1000 metres and put up App.Yash Narredu and he was tipped. Also, the horse ran in a Division-II race this time and there was no common horse. He added that the horse had run a good second over 1000 metres in its last run during the Pune Meeting 2014.

Keeping in mind that the pattern of running of the horse was similar in both the races and he was hardly 6 ½ lengths from the winner in its last run and also, the horse had run after a gap of one month, the explanation tendered by Trainer Altaf Hussain was noted, however, his attention was drawn to the betting trend and he was cautioned to be more careful in the future.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “RAPID GIRL” IN RACE NO.197 – THE PLATINUM WORLD CUP (DIV.I) (1400 METRES) RUN ON 15TH FEBRUARY, 2015 :

Trainer Vinesh and Jockey S.Zervan were questioned in the above connection. Trainer Vinesh said that RAPID GIRL has run twice earlier during the current Mumbai Meeting over 1200 metres and her last run was disappointing, hence he decided to race her over 1400 metres this time and instructed the Jockey to sit off the pace and ride out in the straight and she performed much better.  He said that the Jockey had followed the instructions except that probably he had allowed the front runner to take too long a lead, however the filly had run a good race. He said that the filly was still a maiden.

Jockey S.Zervan said that prior to the race he had discussed with the Trainer how he would prefer to ride the filly. He said that whenever any horse comes alongside, the filly tends to catch hold of the bit and gets keen and does not relax and thereafter when asked for an effort she does not respond, hence the best way to ride her was to keep her calm, composed and relaxed and ride out in the straight. He said that this was the first time that the filly was ridden off the pace and she has galloped to the wire because she was relaxed all the way. He said that the front runner ARMEL set a very fast pace and everybody were off the bridle before the bend.

After viewing the video  of the race in question as also her previous run and keeping in mind that the filly was still a maiden, the explanation of the Trainer and Jockey was noted and they were informed that a watch would be kept on the future running of the filly.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “JIMBO” IN RACE NO.212 – THE SERUM INSTITUTE OF INDIA TROPHY (1000 METRES) RUN ON 22ND FEBRUARY, 2015 AS ALSO THE LOSS OF WHIP BY JOCKEY A.ASHHAD ASBAR :

Trainer Asad Siddiqui and Jockey A.Ashhad Asbar were questioned in the above connection. Trainer Asad Siddiqui said that the horse had met with interference at the start whereby the Jockey lost his position. He said that Jockey Kishore Kadam (DOC HOLIDAY) was fined for this incident as published in the Race Day Reports. Jockey A.Ashhad Asbar said that having lost his position at the start, he has gradually improved his position and has done his best. When questioned regarding the loss of whip, he said that his whip got stuck in the tail of SAINTS N SINNERS and fell off.

After viewing the video of the race and also the blow up picture of the loss of whip, the explanation tendered by the Trainer and Jockey was noted.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “HIS HIGHNESS” IN RACE NO.214 – THE SIR VICTOR SASSOON GOLD TROPHY (1600 METRES) RUN ON 22ND FEBRUARY, 2015 :

Trainer Imtiaz A.Sait and Jockey S.Zervan were questioned in the above connection. Trainer Imtiaz A.Sait said that the horse was drawn-5 and he had instructed the Jockey to settle the horse in a good position, not to show him day light, start improving from the four furlongs as the race progress, pull him out in the straight and to do his best.

The video recording of the race was viewed and when asked for his observation, the Trainer said that when the horse started shifting out in the straight the Jockey has not bothered to change his whip hand nor has he made enough efforts to correct the horse and the horse has corrected himself. Thereafter, the Jockey has again unbalanced the horse which has cost him the race. He opined that either the Jockey’s left hand is weak or he has ridden an injudicious race. He said that he was not alleging that the Jockey was crook but such riding was not acceptable.

Jockey S.Zervan admitted his mistake that he should have made more efforts to correct the horse, however, he said there was no mala-fide intent. He apologized and assured that he would not repeat the mistake.

The Stipendiary Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey S.Zervan. Considering that the horse was a joint favourite and could have won the race, they decided to suspend his Jockey’s license w.e.f. 15th March, 2015 to 22nd March, 2015 for injudicious riding. Further, he was warned to be more careful in the future.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE POOR PERFORMANCE OF “BULLDOZER” IN RACE NO.215 – THE SATINELLO TROPHY (DIV.II) (1200 METRES) RUN ON 22ND FEBRUARY, 2015 :

Trainer Faisal A.Abbas and Jockey A.Sandesh were questioned in the above connection. Trainer Faisal A.Abbas said that this was the maiden run of the horse. He said that the horse played up at the gates and lost energy which effected his performance in the race and he was tired in the last part.

The video of the race was viewed and when asked as to why he was not vigorous in the last 100 metres, the Jockey said that the horse was tired and had nothing left in him.

Considering that this was the maiden run of the horse, the explanation tendered by the Trainer and Jockey have been noted.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “ANCIENT GLORY” IN RACE NO.215 – THE SATINELLO TROPHY (DIV.II) (1200 METRES) RUN ON 22ND FEBRUARY, 2015 :

Trainer Mansoor Shah and Jockey Ishwar Pardeshi were questioned in the above connection.

Having viewed the video of Race No.215, Trainer Mansoor Shah agreed with the Stipendiary Stewards that Jockey Ishwar Pardeshi was not vigorous in his riding effort on ANCIENT GLORY. He said that this boy had joined his stable recently and if he rides in this manner, he would not give him rides in the future.

When questioned, Jockey Ishwar Pardeshi had no explanation to offer for the feeble handling of his mount. As such, he has been suspended from riding in races for one race day i.e. for 15th March, 2015 for feeble riding on his mount ANCIENT GLORY and warned to be more careful in the future.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE POOR PERFORMANCE OF “SATELLITE” IN RACE NO.218 – THE DR.GOOLAM E.VAHANVATI GOLD TROPHY (1200 METRES) RUN ON 22ND FEBRUARY, 2015 :

Trainer P.Shroff and Jockey P.Trevor were questioned in the above connection. Trainer P.Shroff said that he had expected the filly to perform much better, however, she was drawn-12 and the pace was too fast and his filly could not keep up with the pace and was lugging out. He said that his filly does not have great form, having won just one race over 1400 metres and the only decent horse she beat in that race was DRACO, whereas the winner in the race in question seems to be a good horse. He said that the only reason he ran her over 1200 metres this time was because in her previous run over 1600 metres with P.Trevor, between the 4 furlongs and 3 furlongs she got keen and took away, so he felt she will have bit of a chance over 1200 metres. Also, in her previous races, he wanted the Jockeys to keep her covered but now he has decided to run her over 1400 metres and send her to the front.

Jockey P.Trevor said that the pace was too fast and the filly was hanging out badly. He said that he had done his best.

Having viewed the recording of the race and scrutinizing the betting sheets, the explanation tendered by the Trainer and Jockey was noted.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE COMPRATIVE PERFORMANCE OF “CON MAN” IN RACE NO 219 - THE HONG KONG JOCKEY CLUB TROPHY (DIV.I) (1200 METRES – JOCKEY C.S.JODHA) WHICH THE GELDING WON AS COMPARED TO ITS PREVIOUS RUN IN RACE NO.160 (1400 METRES – A.J.NILESH) RUN ON 31ST JANUARY , 2015 WHERE IT WAS UNPLACED :

Trainer Faisal A.Abbas and Jockey A.J.Nilesh were questioned in the above connection. It was pointed out to Trainer Faisal A.Abbas that in the previous race when ridden by Jockey A.J.Nilesh, the horse was at long odds and there was practically no betting on the horse whereas in Race No.219 which he won with Jockey C.S.Jodha, the horse was at 18/10 and there was substantial betting. Trainer Faisal A.Abbas said that in Race No.160, the horse ran in a higher class and had finished sixth, about 5 lengths from the winner. He said that the horse subsequently won Race No.219 after a gap of 22 days in a lower class and there was no common horse.

Having viewed the video of both the races and keeping in mind that the horse had run after a gap of 22 days, he was only five lengths from the winner in the previous race, he had won in a lower class this time and there was no common horse, the explanation tendered by Trainer Faisal A.Abbas was noted. However, Jockey A.J.Nilesh was cautioned for not being vigorous in his riding effort in Race No.160.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “ARSENAL” IN RACE NO.219 – THE HONG KONG JOCKEY CLUB TROPHY (DIV.I) (1200 METRES) RUN ON 22ND FEBRUARY, 2015 :

Trainer Mansoor Shah and Jockey S.G.Prasad were questioned in the above connection. Trainer Mansoor Shah said that prior to Race No.219, ARSENAL had no form and always ran poor and the horse also tends to get unbalanced in a race. He said that in the race in question he had instructed Jockey S.G.Prasad to sit in a forward 3rd/4th position and to do his best. He said that after the race the Jockey had reported to him that when he used the whip the filly was drifting, hence he had put his whip down, got the horse balanced and ridden out hands and heels and the filly had responded. He said that this was the best run of the filly.

Jockey S.G.Prasad confirmed the instructions and added that the filly was uncomfortable from the start and was hesitant when horses came alongside. He said that the filly only responded in the straight when he balanced her and rode her out hands and heels. To a question, he said that he had not reported the above to the Stipendiary Stewards but only to the Trainer.

The video recording of Race No.219 was viewed and it was pointed out that coming into the straight, every time the filly responded the Jockey had stopped riding. Thereafter, the winning ride of Jockey S.G.Prasad in Race No.148 on NIRBHAYA was viewed and it was pointed out that in this race the Jockey was far more vigorous. Trainer Mansoor Shah concurred with the Stipendiary Stewards.

Not being satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey S.G.Prasad, his Jockey’s license has been suspended for one race day i.e. 15th March, 2015 for incompetent riding. Further, he was reminded of his obligation to ride out all his mounts past the post in the future.
