An objection was lodged by Jockey D.K.Ashish, rider of STAR BLESSINGS (placed fourth), against UNKNOWN REBEL (C.S.Jodha, placed third). The reason being, passing 200 metres, UNKNOWN REBEL cut across due to which he had to stop riding, which cost him the third place.
After considering the submissions made by the Jockeys concerned, in conjunction with that of the Stipendiary Stewards and relying on their judgment, the Stewards upheld the objection and revised the order of placing as under:-
MOUNTAIN REGIMENT - FIRST; STAR BLESSINGS - THIRD;
AFSOON - SECOND; UNKNOWN REBEL - FOURTH

ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “SYLVINIA” IN RACE NO.237– THE FEDORA TROPHY (DIV.I) (1200 METRES) RUN ON SUNDAY, 26TH FEBRUARY, 2012 – TRAINER NAZAK B.CHENOY & JOCKEY S.N. CHAVAN :
Trainer Nazak B.Chenoy and Jockey S.N.Chavan were questioned in the above connection. Trainer Nazak B.Chenoy said that she had instructed the Jockey to take a good jump and sit well up, come into the straight, balance the filly and ride out in the last 2 furlongs. She said that the Jockey had followed her instructions and coming into the straight the Jockey used the whip a couple of times but the moment he asked her to quicken, she was shortening her strides and the winner passed her easily. She said that she was satisfied with the Jockey’s riding. The Jockey has ridden her out and only supported her in the last 100 metres.
Jockey S.N.Chavan confirmed the instructions. He said that coming into the straight the filly was travelling well and he used the whip on a couple of occasions but last part when he put pressure she was unbalanced and gave him the feeling that something was amiss with her and therefore he stopped riding in the last 100 metres. He added that the filly has a history of unsoundness, she was operated on the left leg in October, 2010 and in the very first run of her life which was during the Pune Meeting 2011 as a four year old, she was withdrawn as she trotted sore whilst going to the start. Thereafter she raced once in Pune and then travelled to Mumbai. After her first run during the current Mumbai Meeting, the filly was treated for soreness and had to be laid off for over a month. After her second run she was again treated for soreness and knowing this history of unsoundness and the feeling the filly gave him in the race in question, he felt that something was wrong with her and it would not be right to put more pressure on her and hence he eased her up in the last 100 metres so as to save her.
Trainer Nazak B.Chenoy confirmed the above statement of the Jockey and showed her log books to confirm that the filly was treated for soreness after her earlier two runs during the current Mumbai Meeting, however, she had no answer as to why she had not brought the above to the notice of the Stipendiary Stewards the next day.
The video recording of the race was viewed and Jockey S.N.Chavan was informed that his statement that he felt something was wrong with the filly in the last part was not evident on the video recording. Jockey S.N.Chavan said that the moment he put pressure on the mare, she changed her leg and was unbalanced and he immediately felt that something may be wrong with the filly and hence he stopped riding the filly and supported her only to save her.
Trainer Nazak B.Chenoy said that the filly was travelling well when she was on her right leg but she started tiring in the straight and when she came on to her left leg, she was a little unbalanced and she was shortening her strides and she had done the same thing in Race No.134 when Jockey Akshay rode her. She said that even in work she travels well when she is allowed to gallop supported but the moment pressure is applied she gets unbalanced and is hesitant to gallop continuously on the left leg. She said that in the race in question, Jockey Chavan has used the whip a couple of times but the moment he put pressure, the filly has come on her left leg and was unbalanced and Jockey S.N.Chavan has picked her up to support her in the last 100 metres. She reiterated that she was satisfied with the Jockey’s riding.
The Stipendiary Stewards further reported that SYLVINIA underwent a veterinary examination on the morning of 27th February, 2012 which discovered swelling to the left fore tendon and when pressure was applied the mare exhibited pain. A subsequent scan of the area confirmed Tendinitis. Treatment was prescribed and the mare to be re-examined in a month with only hand walking for the next 14 days.
