RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “HIGHLAND EMPRESS” IN RACE NO.29 – THE RUBEN STAR PLATE (DIV.II) - RUN ON 5TH AUGUST, 2018 :
The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Rehanullah Khan and Jockey S.A.Amit in the above connection. Trainer Rehanullah Khan said that he had instructed the Jockey to take a good jump and sit in 3rd/4th position and coming into the straight to do his best. Jockey S.A.Amit confirmed the instructions. When asked to explain his riding, Jockey S.A.Amit said that the filly took a fly jump and thereafter she was keen and since no one was going to the front at that stage he found himself alongside STORMY ATLANTIC (S.Zervan). He said that he was trying to settle the filly but the riders behind kept shouting and the filly was too keen hence he let her roll.
The video recording of Race No.29 was viewed and on being asked whether he had niggled/pushed the filly after the start, Jockey S.A.Amit stated that he had only given the filly loose rein in order to maintain his position but the filly became very keen. When asked why he had not settled the filly, he reiterated that he did try to settle the filly but she was very keen.
Trainer Rehanullah Khan felt that there was no mala-fide intent in the Jockey’s riding, however, he should have made more efforts to follow the instructions.
Having considered the submissions made and having viewed the video tape recording of the race, Jockey S.A.Amit has been severely cautioned that in future he should make all efforts to follow his instructions.
