RACE DAY REPORTS

RAILS  WERE PLACED 8 METRES AWAY FROM ITS ORIGINAL POINT  FROM 1600 METRES (MILE CHUTE) TO 1200 METRES, 10 METRES AWAY AT 1000 METRES, 12 METRES AWAY AT 800 METRES AND THEREAFTER 13 METRES  AWAY UP TO THE WINNING POST. FOR THE RACES STARTING FROM THE BACK STRETCH, RAILS WERE PLACED FROM ITS ORIGINAL POINT FROM 1400 METRES LEADING TO 4 METRES AWAY AT 1200 METRES AND 10 METRES AWAY AT 1000 METRES.

 

On a request from Trainer S.S.Shah, permission was granted to his Assistant Trainer, Ms. Roxanne Rustomjee, to saddle his charges FESTIVAL NIGHT & SPIRIT OF MERCY in the 3rd & 4th race respectively, at his (Trainer S.S.Shah’s) risk and responsibility.

RACE NO.1(314)  – THE  M.D.PETIT PLATE (DIV.II): (About) 1000 Metres – Runners - 9

 

NEW STAR (V.Chandrakant) lost about 2 lengths at the start.

 

Near 400 metres, MONTAIN WIND (Kishore Kadam) shifted out to progress in the race and in the process went across KERRISDALE (N.S.Parmar) who was checked. Jockey Kishore Kadam has been cautioned.

 

BALINGA (T.Bernard) commenced to hang outwards while negotiating the bend and then hung out further in the straight. Since the gelding had behaved in a similar manner in its previous start, Trainer Sangramsinh N.Joshi has been asked to take remedial measures and to show the gelding to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards in a Mock race, before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, BALINGA, MOUNTAIN WIND, NEW STAR and KERRISDALE were found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.2(315)  – THE  BEJAN BHARUCHA PLATE: (About) 1600 Metres – Runners - 9

 

Trainer Anil Kumar and Jockey Deep Shanker were questioned regarding the poor performance of BY THE WAY in this race as compared to its previous start where the gelding had finished 2nd over the same trip. The Trainer stated that the Instructions were to ride the gelding off the pace and observed that the Jockey was not able to settle him. He said that he himself was surprised at the poor performance. The Jockey stated that the gelding did not respond to his urgings in the straight. The Trainer opted to scope the gelding and subsequently, the Sr. VO reported that no abnormality was detected. The explanation was noted.  

 

After the race, BY THE WAY, FAIRY EMPRESS, ONLY WHITE and AMORA were found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.3(316) – THE M.D.PETIT PLATE (DIV.I): (About) 1000 Metres – Runners – 10

 

At the start, PRETTY IN PATPONG (Hanumant Singh, dr.8) was inconvenienced while racing between CAPITANO (V.Chadrakant, dr.7) and SARISKA (S.Zervan, dr.9).

 

Passing 800 metres, SARISKA (S.Zervan) shifted in and caused CAPITANO (V.Chandrakant) to shift in, who in turn hampered the running of DIAMONDZIP (Nirmal Jodha), due to which MOUNTAIN TREASURE (App.Prasad), who was following, was steadied. Jockey S.Zervan has been cautioned.

 

Ms. Roxanne Rustomjee was questioned regarding the comparative performance of FESTIVAL NIGHT. She stated that the mare ran 200 metres shorter trip this time which was more suited and also the running of the race suited the mare since both SARISKA and REIN IN SPAIN cut pace with each other. To another question, she stated that the mare was fancied considering that it was a 1000 metres condition race for horses which have run and not won during the current Mumbai Meeting. The explanation was noted.  

The Sr.V.O. reported that FIREHEART was pulled up by the Jockey near 400 metres. On examination, the gelding was observed to be sore from the left fore leg. First Aid treatment was given and the gelding was sent to the Equine Hospital by Horse Ambulance for further management.  FIREHEART has to be passed fit by the Club’s V.O. before next accepting to race.

After the race, REIN IN SPAIN was observed to have broken a blood vessel and is not to race for the stipulated period of four weeks. The mare has to be passed fit by the Club’s VO before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, EROTIC FLAME was found to be sound, but having a cut injury at the left fore fetlock. MOUNTAIN TREASURE was found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.4(317) –THE  ROYAL CALCUTTA TURF CLUB TROPHY: (About) 1600 Metres – Runners - 5

 

SUMO (A.Sandesh) was reluctant to reach the starting point.  Trainer Adhirajsingh Jodha has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the gelding.

 

Jockey P.Trevor (SPIRIT OF MERCY) has been fined Rs. 2,000/- for shifting in before the Red Marker and going across the filed on his inside.

 

Jockey S.Zervan (INVICTUS) reported that his mount weakened near 600 metres and thereafter did not respond to his urgings. An endoscopy examination revealed that the gelding had suffered EIPH (Grade III).  Being a second time bleeder, the gelding is not to race for the stipulated period of eight weeks. The gelding has to be passed fit by the Club’s VO before next accepting to race.

 

Trainer M.Narredu and Jockey Neeraj Rawal were questioned regarding the running and riding of OKAVANGO. Trainer M.Narredu stated that he had instructed the Jockey to settle the horse in mid bunch and to do his best. Jockey Neeraj Rawal said that he tried to settle the horse, however the horse was very keen in the early part and he did not want to go to the front since the horse had gone to the front in its previous race and lost the race, hence he settled him behind. Trainer M.Narredu said that in future he would prefer to settle the horse in forward position with cover. The explanation was noted.

 

RACE NO.5(318) – THE  SION F.NESSIM PLATE: (About) 2000 Metres – Runners – 10

 

IMPRESSIVE TOUCH (Kishore Kadam) was brought late into the Paddock. On enquiring, it was revealed that Jockey Kishore Kadam, the Declared Rider of IMPRESSIVE TOUCH, did not hand over his saddle to Trainer Imtiaz A.Sait’s attendant and therefore the saddle reached the Saddling Enclosure late. As such, Jockey Kishore Kadam has been fined Rs.3,000/-.

 

RAZEENA (N.S.Parmar) commenced to shift out near 400 metres and the Jockey used his whip with his right hand and aggravated the outward movement of his mount and carried AD INFINITUM (Neeraj Rawal) outwards for a few strides. Jockey N.S.Parmar has been cautioned.

 

RAZEENA (N.S.parmar) lugged-in in the final stages of the race. Trainer Nina M.Lalvani has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, DANSE DEBONAIRE was found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.6(319) – THE  R.M.GOCULDAS GOLD CUP: (About) 1200 Metres – Runners - 6

 

BULLSEYE (S.Zervan) lost about 2 lengths at the start.

 

After the race,  WEIZHOU was observed to have an abrasion at the right hind fetlock. MASTER BULLET and AMADEUS were found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.7(320) – THE  BAHRAIN TROPHY: (About) 1000 Metres – Runners – 7

 

At the behest of the Stipendiary Stewards, a Stewards’ Enquiry was held in this race The reason being, EMPEROR OF FRANCE (A.Sandesh, Placed First) shifted in at about 250 metres, due to which YELLOW ZONE (D.K.Ashish, Placed Second) could not get a clear run and shifted in on to YOU’RE THE BOSS (N.S.Parmar) who was racing along the rails, who got unbalanced. 

 

After considering the submissions made by the Jockeys concerned, in conjunction with that of the Stipendiary Stewards and viewing the video recording of the race, the Stewards decided to maintain the order of placing as declared by the Judge.

 

YELLOWZONE (D.K.Ashish) hung out in the final stages of the race. Trainer C.D.Katrak has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the filly. Further, Jockey D.K.Ashish (YELLOW ZONE) has been cautioned for not making sufficient efforts to control the outward movement of the horse.

 

Jockey D.K.Ashish (YELLOW ZONE) reported the loss of whip, about 100 metres from the winning post.

 

After the race, EMPEROR OF FRANCE was observed to have a cut injury at the right hock.

 

RACE NO.8(321) – THE  KARL UMRIGAR TROPHY:  (About) 1400 Metres – Runners – 11

 

IMPRESSIVE DUDE (C.Rajendra) was restless in the stall and not allowing the rider to settle. Trainer Sangramsinh N.Joshi has been asked to give the gelding more gate practice and show him to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.

 

At the start, ALAINDAIR (N.S.Parmar, dr.2) jumped awkwardly outwards and went on to HAUNTING MOMENTS (B.Sreekanth, dr.3), who went on to ACE FANTASY (P.Trevor, dr.4).

 

Jockey S.Zervan (INSIGNIA) was reported to the Stewards for dropping his hands before passing the winning post thereby losing 2nd Place. The Stewards interviewed Jockey S.Zervan and having heard him and viewing the video recording of the race, were not satisfied with the explanation tendered and decided to fine Rs.30,000/-.

 

After the race,  HAUNTING MOMENTS was found to be sound, but having a cut injury at the right fore knee.

 

RACE NO.9(322) – THE  V.P.KOREGAONKAR PLATE:  (About) 1200 Metres – Runners – 10

 

At the Start, STAYING ALIVE (Deep Shanker, dr.1) jumped awkwardly. ZAKYNTHOS (S.Zervan, dr.9) jumped awkwardly inwards and went on to ARCTIC MINSTREL (P.Trevor, dr.8). GLORIA (Shrikant Kamble, dr.6) was converged upon as SHABDEEZ (Amyn Merchant, dr.7) jumped awkwardly inwards and KING JULIEN (A.Sandesh, dr.5) jumped awkwardly outwards.

 

Passing 1000 metres, KING JULIEN (A.Sandesh) shifted in and took the running of ZAKYNTHOS (S.Zervan) who was forced to shift out and caused SONEEYO (N.S.Parmar) to shift out on SHABDEEZ (Amyn Merchant), who was steadied and lost position due to which THIS ONES FOR YOU (App.Nikhil Bhujbal), who was racing behind SONEEYO and SHABDEEZ, shifted out and inconvenienced ARCTIC MINSTREL (P.Trevor). Shortly afterwards, THIS ONES FOR YOU again shifted out as SHABDEEZ lost position and inconvenienced ARCTIC MINSTREL. Jockey A.Sandesh has been cautioned.

Jockey A.Sandesh (KING JULIEN) reported the loss of whip near 300 metres. This being the second occasion of loss of whip, he has been fined Rs.1,000/-.

 

The Sr.V.O. reported that after completion of the race MASTEROFTHESKY was observed to be sore by the right fore leg. The horse was given First Aid on the track and sent  to the Equine Hospital in Horse Ambulance for further management MASTEROFTHE  SKY has to be passed fit by the Club’s V.O. before next accepting to race.

 

The Sr.V.O.  reported that ZAKYNTHOS was examined at the stables in the morning on 08/04/2013 and found to be sore by the left fore leg. The gelding has to be passed fit by the Club’s V.O. before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, SHABDEEZ was observed to have a cut injury at the left hind tendon.

The post race urine sample of the winner of 2nd, 4th, 6th and 7th race viz. SOUND OF RIVER, SPIRIT OF MERCY, BULLSEYE and EMPEROR OF FRANCE, and the special sample of REIN IN SPAIN (3rd race), were collected for detection of prohibited substance.
