ENQUIRY INTO THE COMPARATIVE PERFORMANCE OF “ONLY WHITE” IN RACE NO.264 – THE WAVE OF BLISS PLATE (DIV.II) (1600 METRES) RUN ON 15/03/2012 WHICH THE GELDING WON AS COMPARED TO ITS PREVIOUS RUNS WHERE HE WAS UNPLACED:

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Himmat Singh and Jockey T.S.Jodha in the above connection. Tr.Himmat Singh said that ONLY WHITE is not a very sound horse. The horse was originally trained by Mr. Vinayak and he bought the horse sometime in April 2010. The horse raced under his charge first time during Pune Meeting 2010 but came back with a tendon and was blistered thereafter and subsequently treated with a shot of cortisone on the right hoof and thereafter he was in rest for the whole Pune season. Also, the horse is a wind sucker and does not eat well and he does not like the heat, hence he cannot give him fast work or race him towards the end of the Mumbai Season when it becomes too hot. The horse only works after 8.30 a.m. and that too over 9 furlong slow canter but his condition was not improving. Thereafter, the horse raced four times during the Mumbai Meeting 2010/11 and three times during the Pune Meeting 2011, all unplaced. Subsequently, this Mumbai Season, the horse raced first time in Race No.23 over 1400 metres where he performed decently to finish 7th. He then gave a gap and ran the horse in Race No.132 over 1000 metres and in this race the pace in the early part was fast and the horse could not keep pace but he finished on very well and if he had not met with interference towards the end, he would have finished much closer. He then gave the horse two months rest and then entered him in the race in question over 1600 metres with a weak set of horses, hence he gave the horse a chance but  informed everybody that he had to beat ASHWA YODHAA. He said that he himself does not bet and therefore he was not aware as to how the horse got backed down since he was not very strong on the horse, the only reason he could think of was that the horse was looking good in the paddock this time. It was pointed out to Trainer Himmat Singh that before the horse came to his charge, he had performed well consistently over longer trips and his performance over 1000 metres had always been poor. Therefore, after having run a decent race over 1400 metres in its first run during the current Mumbai Meeting, why did he go back to 1000 metres instead of running the horse over a longer trip that was more suitable  to the horse, to which Trainer Himmat Singh opinioned that  if the horse stays sound, he was capable of winning races over any distance from 1000 metres to a mile. He reiterated that even over 1000 metres, the horse ran a decent race and he was finishing on well towards the end and if he had not received interference towards the end, he would have finished much closer. He said that there was no change in the work or feed pattern but he had given sufficient rest in between races for the horse to come up. He said that he had won a race after two years.

Jockey T.S.Jodha stated that he was given similar instructions on all three occasions that he rode the horse i.e. to take a good jump and sit comfortably where ever he could and to do his best. He said in the previous race i.e. Race No.132 over 1000 metres, the horse took a level jump but thereafter the horse did not have speed to be with the field and was a detached last but he finished on well, whereas in the race in question which was over 1600 metres, the pace being slow, he was able to sit comfortably in 5th/6th position and the horse responded well in the straight. Also, in the previous race the horse had received interference in the final stages of the race when he was finishing on and he had informed this to the trainer but he had not advised the trainer what distance to run the horse next time out. He said that this horse only works in trot and slow canter on alternate days. He said that he had ridden the horse as instructed by the Trainer and he was not aware as to how the horse got backed down.

The explanation tendered by the Trainer and Jockey was noted.

ENQUIRY INTO THE PATTERN OF RUNNING OF “ASHWA YODHAA” IN RACE NO.264 – THE WAVE OF BLISS PLATE (DIV.II) (1600 METRES) RUN ON 15/03/2012 AS COMPARED TO ITS PREVIOUS RUN IN RACE NO.238 :

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Sangramsinh N.Joshi and Jockey Dashrath Singh in the above connection.  Trainer Sangramsinh Joshi said that Jockey Dashrath Singh had ridden this horse in Race No.238 and he had instructed the Jockey to ride his own race. He said that the previous run was over 1400 metres and after the start the Jockey pushed the horse but the pace being fast, he was not able to sit in a forward position and he sat in 5th or 6th position and finished on well to run third. This time it was a 1600 metres race and the pace was slower as compared to Race No.238 and after the start when the Jockey niggled the horse, he became keen and the Jockey found himself in the front. To a further question, Trainer Sangramsinh said that he had fancied the horse in Race No.264 however ONLY WHITE was backed down which could be reason for the drift in the odds on his horse. Trainer Sangramsinh Joshi’s was asked to explain the inconsistent pattern of running of the horse during the current Mumbai Meeting wherein in one race he was in a forward whereas in the next run the horse was settled behind. Trainer Sangramsingh Joshi said that his instructions have always been to settle the horse in a good position, however, the horse does not have early speed and therefore in races below 1600 metres the pace being faster the horse is not able to keep pace early part and hence he is in the mid bunch or languishing behind whereas in Races over 1600 metres and above the pace being slow the horse is able to sit well up.

Jockey Dashrath Singh confirmed that he was told to ride his own race. He said that in Race No.238 over 1400 metres the horse jumped out level and he was pushing all the way but the horse could not keep pace with the front runners and he fell back to 5th/6th position and then finished on towards the end but he took time to come up and therefore he wanted to sit a little closer this time. He said that the horse was drawn on the outside and he niggled the horse after the start to sit close but the horse got keen and he found himself in the front and rode his race from there. Also, the horse tends to relax when he is racing along the rails and hence he kept him one horse off the rails this time.

The explanation tendered by the Trainer and Jockey was noted.
