Before the horses were brought into the Paddock for the first race, the Veterinary Officer on duty at the Saddling Enclosure reported that there were certain discrepancies wherein the Brand Marks and Microchip number was not in conformity in respect of gr f TOBASCO presented by Trainer Mansoor Shah at the Saddling Enclosure. The matter was reported to the Stewards, who deliberated on the matter and directed that TOBASCO be withdrawn from the race. Subsequently, on going through the records, it was found that the horse that was presented by Trainer Mansoor Shah was identified as gr f SUSIE Q which is under the care and charge of Tr.Shazaan Shah. In view of this, Trainer Mansoor Shah and Trainer Shazaan Shah were questioned by the Stewards after the last race and having heard them, the Stipendiary Stewards were directed to hold a detailed enquiry in the matter and submit a report.

Soon after the start, SKY BEAUTY (S. A. Amit) was observed to have taken an awkward stride.
Approaching 200 metres, WHITEWALKER (Sandeep Jadhav) shifted out and at the same time JOPLIN (P.S.Chouhan) leaned inwards thereby tightening HIGHLAND EMPRESS (A.Sandesh). Jockey Sandeep Jadhav has been cautioned.

An objection was lodged by Jockey S.Zervan, the rider of AUBURN (Placed Third) against LADY IN LACE (P.Trevor, placed Second). The reason being, passing the two furlongs, at approximately furlong and a half he got his filly galloping and she got into a good rhythm and LADY IN LACE (P.Trevor) who was on his outside, came in and touched his horse, due to which his filly got unbalanced, lost her momentum and dropped back by about 3 lengths behind LADY IN LACE and thereafter came back, covered ground and finished third, a short-head behind LADY IN LACE and this cost him the 2nd place.
After considering the submissions made by the Jockeys concerned in conjunction with that of the Stipendiary Stewards and relying on their judgement, the Stewards decided to over-rule the objection.
Approaching 200 metres, WATCHMYSCRIPT (A. Sandesh) leaned inwards due to which LADY IN LACE (P. Trevor) shied inwards and made contact with AUBURN (S. Zervan). Jockey A.Sandesh has been cautioned.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “CLYMENE” (S.ZERVAN, DR.3) IN RACE NO.83 – THE DINKOO N.CHENOY TROPHY (1000 METRES) RUN ON 7TH SEPTEMBER, 2018 :
Trainer Faisal A.Abas and Jockey S.Zervan were questioned in the above connection. Tr.Faisal A.Abbas said that his instructions to Jockey S.Zervan were to try and sit off the pace a bit and come from the back as they expected WILD FIRE to hit the front and set a very hot pace but unfortunately the whole thing fell apart. When asked for his views on the Jockey’s riding in the straight, Trainer Faisal A.Abbas said that when they entered the straight CLYMENE was about a length and a half ahead and he felt that Jockey S.Zervan took a bit longer to try and break away from the others thereby gaining an advantage. He said when he questioned Jockey S.Zervan after the race, the Jockey told him that he felt that the filly was tiring/dying under him so if he had tried to accelerate from the top of the straight, she might not last out, so he felt that the best thing to do was to just give her the support and keep her going. On being asked for his views on Jockey S.Zervan’s explanation to him, Trainer Faisal A.Abbas reiterated that the Jockey took a bit longer to break away, however, having said that, he added that Jockey S.Zervan is a top Jockey and his opinion does matter. Also, the filly was carrying 61 kg. and she was running after a long lay off and that could have had a toll on her. When asked about the fitness of the filly, Trainer Faisal A.Abbas said that the filly was quite fit, he had given her a mock race and two work outs and he had also worked her after the mock race, so he had done whatever he could to get her fit. However, a race is a race and though fitness is not an issue, may be she required that one hard race.
The video recording of Race No.83 was viewed.
Jockey S.Zervan said that he rode the filly in the 7 furlong mock race (the owner and the Trainer had told him that the filly tends to get a little keen so they want her to relax). He said that in the mock race the filly found a nice pace and she settled and he informed them that she is still a sprinter only and will not get the 7 furlong trip. He said that after the race in question, he informed the Trainer that since no one was going to the front despite there being space on the inside, he found himself in the front and he came on to the rails at the 4 furlong marker. He said that he thought that WILD FIRE would go to the front but she missed the kick so by default he found himself in the front and being a 5 furlong race the filly hasn’t torn away but travelled comfortably and turning for home he felt that there was not much left in her and the minute he would leave her, she is not going to go anywhere as she was travelling with the support of the bridle, so he tried to keep her on the bridle as much as he could and then rode her out.
The video recording of Race No.83 was viewed. Jockey S.Zervan said that after the race he spoke to the owner and informed him that the filly has raced well but was a bit thick and told him that he was unable to sit off the pace as no one was going to the front and the owner said okay. He said that he also informed the owner that the filly was keen but she was travelling nicely. To a specific question on his finishing power, Jockey S.Zervan said that it is as good as the horse spurts and when the winner came on his haunches, he asked his filly for an effort but she did not spurt.
The video recording of Race No.83 was viewed again and Jockey S.Zervan said that the filly dropped the bit.
Having considered the submissions made, viewing the video tape recording of the race, scrutinizing the Log Books and keeping all circumstances in mind, the matter was reported to the Stewards for such action as they deem fit.
The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Saturday, 6th October, 2018 interviewed Trainer Faisal A.Abbas and Jockey S.Zervan in the above connection and having heard them and having viewed the video recording of the race, the Stewards decided that no action was called for in the matter.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE RIDING OF JOCKEY C.S.JODHA ON “RAEES” (DRAWN.1) IN RACE NO.101 – THE MYSORE RACE CLUB TROPHY RUN ON 17TH SEPTEMBER, 2018:
The Chief Stipe had recorded the instructions of Trainer Imtiaz A.Sait before the race. The instructions to the Jockey C.S.Jodha were that SQUARE MOON will go to the front so he should judge the pace and ride accordingly.
Trainer Imtiaz A.Sait and Jockey C.S.Jodha were subsequently questioned in the above connection. Tr.Imtiaz A.Sait confirmed his instructions and said that he felt that Jockey C.S.Jodha had used up the horse up the hill and hence was a spent force in the straight. He added that the winner, WINTER RENAISSANCE has run 22 times out of which 14 times she was ridden by Jockey C.S.Jodha and has won 3 races and also placed in the Classics. He said that RAEES has run 14 times out of which 10 times he was ridden by Jockey C.S.Jodha, so when the Handicaps were published he called up Jockey C.S.Jodha and asked him which of the two horses he would like to ride to which the Jockey’s instant reaction was WINTER RENAISSANCE but then he said that he would like to work the horses and decide and after working both the horses he chose to ride RAEES. Trainer Imtiaz A.Sait pointed out that WINTER RENAISSANCE and RAEES have met three times and on all three occasions WINTER RENAISSANCE got the better of RAEES, twice in Kolkata and once here. Trainer Imtiaz A.Sait said that the mistake Jockey C.S.Jodha made was to take a 10 lengths break and he relaxed the horse turning for home thereby losing the 2ndplace also. Trainer Imtiaz A.Sait felt that there was no mala-fide intent but poor judgement on the part of Jockey C.S.Jodha. He said that Jockey C.S.Jodha has won 4 races on RAEES and 3 races on WINTER RENAISSANCE and he knows both the horses.
Jockey C.S.Jodha was specifically asked as to why he took a break in the back stretch, Jockey C.S.Jodha said that passing the 1400 metres the pace was slow and his horse was keen. Also, the horse is one paced and does not like to be held back and the Trainer had instructed him that if there is pace then he should sit but if it is a slow run race then he should ride his own race, therefore, since the pace had suddenly slowed down at the 1400 metres and his horse being keen and also a long striding horse, he let him move up. To a specific question, he said that he was given the choice to ride either of the two horses and since RAEES worked better and also WINTER RENAISSANCE had already raced three times this season, he opted to ride RAEES. When asked whether after the race did he felt that he could have ridden differently, Jockey C.S.Jodha said that as the horse was keen passing the 1400 metres, he went ahead, however, he had not pushed to go to the front but was handy. To another question, Jockey C.S.Jodha said that he felt that he had plenty in hand.
The video recording of Race No.101 was viewed and it was pointed out to Jockey C.S.Jodha that he had been urging the horse and also he felt he had plenty in hand but from the 4 furlongs he was flat out.
Having heard the submissions made and viewing the video recording of the race, the Stipendiary Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey C.S.Jodha and reported the matter to the Stewards.
The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Saturday, 6th October, 2018 interviewed Trainer Imtiaz A.Sait and Jockey C.S.Jodha in the above connection and having heard them and having viewed the video recording of Race No.101 as also the horse’s previous race i.e. Race No.52 and having deliberated the matter, the Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey C.S.Jodha and held him guilty of not permitting his mount RAEES to run on its merits in Race No.101. The Stewards noted that Jockey C.S.Jodha deliberately pushed the horse up the hill from the 1400 metres and thereby blew the horse up due to which the horse weakened in the straight and by doing so he failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures throughout the race thereby denying his mount full opportunity to obtain the best possible position/place in the race. Therefore, the Stewards of the Club decided to suspend his Jockey’s license w.e.f. 27th October, 2018 till the end of the Mumbai Meeting 2018/19 (not permitted to ride work/mock race).

RE : FALL OF APPRENTICE A.S.PETER ON “BIDSTONE HILL” IN RACE NO.131 – THE PERSONIFIED PLATE (DIV.II) RUN ON 29TH SEPTEMBER, 2018 :
The Stipendiary Stewards reported that in the final stages of the race, Jockey Shahrukh Khan (ETERNAL DANCER) shifted in under urgings thereby tightening BIDSTONE HILL (App. A. S. Peter) along the rails, due to which BIDSTONE HILL lost his footing and stumbled thereby dislodging its rider.
When questioned, Jockey Shahrukh Khan said that his horse was moving well and due to lack of room ahead of him he could not take the gap. Thereafter, he saw a gap open between BIDSTONE HILL and SPORTO and since his horse was full of running he shifted in to take that gap without realizing that he was in such close proximity to BIDSTONE HILL (App.A.S.Peter).
Having heard the submissions made and having viewed the video recording of Race No.131, the Stipendiary Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey Shahrukh Khan and reported he matter to t he Stewards..
The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Saturday, 6th October, 2018 interviewed Jockey Shahrukh Khan in the above connection and having heard him and having viewed the video recording of the race, were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey Shahrukh Khan decided to refer him back to the Riding Instructor to improve his riding skills and until such time that the Riding Instructor does not give a clearance, he cannot accept any rides in races.
