ENQUIRY INTO THE POOR PERFORMANCE OF “GOLDEN MEMORY” IN RACE NO.272 - THE  OYSTER COVE TROPHY (DIV.I) (1400 METRES) RUN ON THURSDAY, 21ST MARCH, 2013 :

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Mansoor Shah and Jockey S.Zervan in the above connection. Trainer Mansoor Shah said that Jockey S.Zervan has ridden GOLDEN MEMORY earlier and knows the horse. He said that he was out of station on this day and he had asked Tr.Damodaran D.Pallai who saddled the horse, to instruct the Jockey to be in a forward position and to ride his own race. He felt that the distance of 1400 metres may not have suited the horse and also he had returned from the race with an injury in the mouth. He said that he had plans to retire this horse at the end of the current Mumbai Meeting and he wished to earn whatever stake money he could before the horse retires and considering that this was a restricted race for horses  5 years old and over, he took a chance of running him within a short gap but the horse did not perform well.

Jockey S.Zervan confirmed the instructions and added that the horse lost his footing from hind at about 850 metres and thereafter did not respond but he had returned sound after the race.

The explanation tendered by the Trainer and Jockey has been noted.
