 RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “JUPITER” IN RACE NO.88 – THE RAPHAELA PLATE (DIV.I) (1400 METRES) RUN ON SATURDAY, 29TH AUGUST, 2015 :

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer M.Narredu and App.S.J.Sunil in the above connection. The video of the race in question as also the horse’s previous two races were viewed and when questioned, Tr.M.Narredu said that JUPITER is normally sluggish at the start, therefore he had instructed the Jockey to take a good jump and brush up for about 5 to 6 strides and sit in a good 2nd/3rd position and to do his best. App.S.J.Sunil confirmed the instructions and added that the horse threw his head up soon after the start, as such, he could not get into a striking position as instructed. He said that the horse was running erratic hence he settled him behind and coming into the straight, the horse was inclined to go out and when he tapped him on the left, he shifted in, hence he put his whip down and rode out hands and heels.

Trainer M.Narredu pointed out that although JUPITER was a sluggish starter, however, Apprentice S.J.Sunil should have put in better efforts in the straight on a fancied runner and expressed his dissatisfaction with the ride.

Not being satisfied with the explanation tendered by Apprentice S.J.Sunil, his Apprentice Jockey’s license has been suspended w.e.f. 26th September, 2015 to  10th October, 2015 (both days inclusive) (permitted to ride work/mock race)  for unsatisfactory riding, for the under-mentioned reasons :-

a)   He could have made better efforts to obtain a better position as instructed;

b)   He was not vigorous in his riding efforts in the straight and has tapped the horse only once;

c)    The previous race of the horse was viewed as also the winning mount of App.S.J.Sunil where it is observed that he can do better.
