RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND  RIDING OF “MY FREEDOM” IN RACE NO.49-THE VENUS DE MILO PLATE , RUN ON THURSDAY 10th  DECEMBER  2015 :

Trainer Asad Siddiqui and Jockey Amyn Merchant were questioned in the above connection. The trainer stated that he had instructed the Jockey to take a good jump, sit well up and to do his best. When asked for his observation, Trainer Asad Siddiqui said that the Jockey had not used the whip in the straight and on questioning immediately after the race, Jockey Amyn Merchant had told him that he could not use the whip as the other horses were in close proximity. Further, the jockey also told him that he had no room as such he could not ride out.

Jockey Amyn Merchant confirmed the instructions. The video of the race was viewed and on being questioned Jockey Amyn Merchant said that soon after the start he was hampered for room and had to drop back. Thereafter, turning for home when he asked the gelding for an effort, he took a bit of time to get into his stride and at about 350 metres SEVEN SEAS (Kishore Kadam) shifted in and went across him, due to which he did not get a clear run. He added that since there was no room he had not used the whip to avoid rushing on to the front runners.

It was pointed out to the Jockey that he had sufficient time after turning for home to improve his position. Further, subsequent to the interference that he was referring to, he should have used the whip as there was sufficient room for him to do so. Jockey Amyn Merchant reiterated that he could not use the whip as the other horses were in close proximity

After considering the submissions made and viewing the video of the race, the Stipendiary Stewards were not entirely satisfied with the explanation tendered by the Trainer and Jockey. However, keeping in mind that the horse was at longer odds, no action was initiated in the matter but the Trainer and Jockey were informed that this enquiry was being kept open and a close watch would be kept on the future running of this horse.

RE:ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND  RIDING OF “HEART OF THE CITY” IN RACE NO.51-THE SECRET STAR PLATE , RUN ON THURSDAY 10th  DECEMBER  2015.

Trainer Asad Siddiqui and Apprentice D. R. Shubham were questioned in the above connection. The video of the race was viewed and when questioned, Trainer Asad Siddiqui stated that he had instructed the Jockey to take a good jump and sit well up as possible and to do his best. He said that at the start the gelding was fractionally slow and thereafter and the horse drawn on the inside had cut across him, due to which Apprentice Shubham could not get into a forward position. Further, in the straight, he had a wall of horses in front of him and in the last 100 metres he checked his mount and pulled him out and has finished 4 lengths from the winner. To a specific question, Tr. Asad Siddiqui stated that the gelding was ridden by App. S. Joseph when it won in Pune. He said that App. D. R. Shubham is working for him hence he gave him the ride this time.

Apprentice D. R. Shubam confirmed the instructions and added that his mount was slow from the gates as such he could not sit well up and had settled his mount. Thereafter, in the straight, there were horses in front of him and he had no room due to which he could not ride out and in the last 150 metres he pulled his mount out and did his best. To a specific question, he stated that he has not ridden a winner so far in his career and has had very few rides.

After considering the submissions made and keeping in mind that Apprentice D. R. Shubham had not had many rides and also that the gelding was at longer odds, no action was initiated in the matter. However, the trainer was informed

that a close watch would be kept on the future running of this horse.

RE:ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND  RIDING OF “PEZZONOVANTE” IN RACE NO.15 - THE ALVARITA PLATE (1000 METRES), RUN ON THURSDAY 26th NOVEMBER  2015 :

Trainer H. J. Antia and Apprentice Akshay Gaikwad were questioned in the above connection. The trainer stated that he had instructed the Apprentice to try and take a good jump and go to the front, if he cannot, then do not force the horse, sit 2nd/3rd and to do his best in the straight. When asked for his observation, the Trainer said that the gelding had jumped out awkwardly and lost ground at the start and unfortunately in trying to make up the lost ground, the

Apprentice travelled wide off the fence and had no chance in the straight. To another question, the trainer stated that the apprentice had improved his position but the gelding in the process was used up in the early part of the race and gave up in the straight.

The video of the race was viewed and on questioning, Apprentice Akshay Gaikwad confirmed the instructions and added that his mount was keen inside the gates and took an awkward jump. Thereafter, in an effort to sit well up he had to travel on the outside and in the straight the gelding did not respond.

After hearing the submissions made and viewing the video of the race and keeping in mind that the gelding had taken a fly jump,  no action was initiated in the matter beyond informing the trainer that this enquiry was being kept open and a close watch would be kept on the future running of this horse.

RE:ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND  RIDING OF “SCARLET OF HOPE” IN RACE NO.64-THE BOURBON KING PLATE (DIV-II) (1000 METRES), RUN ON THURSDAY 17th  DECEMBER  2015.

Trainer Altaf Hussain and Jockey D. S. Rathore were questioned in the above connection. The video of the race was viewed and when questioned Trainer Altaf Hussain stated that he had instructed the Jockey to go to the front and to do his best and use the whip in the straight. He said that after the race he had questioned the Jockey as to why he had not gone to the front and had also pointed out to him that he had not ridden out in the straight, to which the Jockey informed him that he did make an effort to go to the front but could not do so and in the straight he was tired.

Jockey D. S. Rathore confirmed the instructions and added that he had made an effort to go to the front. When asked as to why he had not used the whip in the straight, he said that he was ridding after ten months and was nervous and admitted to have committed a mistake. He said that after the race he had apologized to the Trainer.

Trainer Altaf Hussain was asked as to why he did not report the matter to the Stipendiary Stewards if he was not satisfied with the Jockey’s riding, to which he said that the mare ran far behind and therefore he did not lodge a complaint. To a specific question, Trainer Altaf Hussain stated that he had employed Jockey D. S. Rathore to work for him since the start of the season, however, the Jockey was irregular at work and thereafter wanted to ride freelance and so he had released him.

After considering the submissions made by the Trainer and Jockey, keeping in mind that the Jockey was riding after 10 months and had admitted to his mistake, and also that the mare was at longer odds, no action has been initiated. However, Trainer Altaf Hussain has been informed that a close watch would be kept on the future running of this mare. Further, Jockey D. S. Rathore has been referred back to the Riding Instructor, Mr. Aslam Kader to improve his riding capabilities and was told not to accept rides until he gets a clearance from him. Sunil to go to the front if he can or else to sit in 3rd / 4th position and to do his best in the straight. Apprentice S. J. Sunil confirmed the instructions and stated that in the straight when he used the whip on the right, the filly shifted out so he immediately switched the whip to the left hand and when he used the whip the filly shifted in. Trainer S. Waheed added that the filly had returned sore after the race.

After considering the submissions made by the Trainer and Apprentice, keeping in mind that the filly had returned sore after the race and also that the filly was at longer odds, no action was initiated.

RE:ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND  RIDING OF “MARVEL”  IN RACE NO.81-THE CONRAD PEREIRA TROPHY (DIV-II) (1800 METRES), RUN ON SATURDAY 26th  DECEMBER  2015.

Trainer S. K. Sunderji and Jockey Neeraj Rawal were questioned in the above connection as the Stipes felt that the Jockey could have been more vigorous in the straight.

The video of the race was viewed and when questioned, Trainer S. K. Sunderji stated that he had instructed the Jockey to settle the filly in 3rd/4th  or maximum 5th  position and  maintain his position and coming round the turn pick her up and to do his best. He added that the filly takes a little time to get going, hence he had also told the Jockey to balance her nicely and then push her out in the straight. Jockey Neeraj Rawal confirmed the instructions.

To a specific question, Tr. Sunderji stated that the Jockey’s decision to make his run from the outside had cost him the race as he had to cover a lot of ground and if he had made his run from the inside like Jockey A. Sandesh (SHE IS SPECIAL) had done, he may have won the race.

Jockey Neeeraj Rawal stated that it was a split second decision and he chose to make his run from the outside considering that the filly takes time to get going and he felt that if he made his move from the inside and was hampered for room like Jockey A. Sandesh who had to check his filly for a few strides, in such a situation his filly would have taken time to respond, hence he made his run from the outside and got into her and rode out hands and

heels so as to enable the filly to get going. Thereafter, when he used the whip on the left, the filly shifted in and he had immediately changed his whip hand and used the whip on the right to keep the filly going straight. He reiterated that it was a split second decision and the outcome was due to the run of the race and he had done his best.

After considering the submissions made and keeping in mind that Jockey Neeraj Rawal had taken reasonable measures to ride his mount out to full advantage, no action has been initiated in this matter.
