RE:ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND  RIDING OF “NIZHONI” IN RACE NO.202-THE CRICKET CLUB OF INDIA TROPHY, RUN ON SATURDAY, 20th FEBRUARY  2016:

Trainer Narendra Lagad and Apprentice Akshay Gaikwad were questioned in the above connection. Trainer Narendra Lagad stated that his instructions were to jump, push the filly and go to the front. He said that after the race the apprentice reported that the filly was shying away from the other horses and was hesitant to raise a gallop. Apprentice Akshay Gaikwad confirmed the instruction and stated that soon after the start the filly was shying away from horses and was hesitant to raise a gallop and thereafter she was running away from the horses.

To a specific question, the Trainer stated that he was not happy with the explanation, however, Apprentice Akshay Gaikwad maintained that the filly was scared and running away from the other horses. To another question, the Trainer said that earlier the filly had the habit of hanging in, however, that problem had been addressed. The trainer opined that the apprentice had ridden a weak race. He said that in view of this run the owners have decided to retire the filly.

After hearing the submissions made and viewing the video of the race and keeping in mind that the filly was at longer odds and also considering the riding calibre of Apprentice Akshay Gaikwad, no action was initiated. However, Apprentice Akshay Gaikwad has been referred to the Riding Instructor to improve his riding skills.
