RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “IT’S A DEAL” IN RACE NO.151 – THE ALLIED FORCES PLATE (DIV.II) RUN ON 26th OCTOBER, 2019:
The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Faisal A. Abbas and Jockey S. Sunil in the above connection. Trainer Faisal A. Abbas stated that his instructions were to take a good jump, sit well up and to do his best in the straight. Jockey S. Sunil confirmed the instructions but stated that his mount had no speed and could not keep up with the other runners. Previous races of the gelding as well as the race in question were viewed and it was pointed out to Jockey S. Sunil that he had made no effort to sit well up as instructed. Trainer Faisal A. Abbas concurred with this view. Further, to a specific question he added that the gelding is not a sound horse and that he intends to give it some time and race it next month possibly over a mile.
Keeping in mind that Jockey S. Sunil made no effort to follow his instructions but rather rode contrary to the same and while Trainer Faisal A. Abbas concurred with our view but failed to report the same, Trainer Faisal A. Abbas and Jockey S. Sunil were reported to the Stewards of the Club for unsatisfactory running and riding of ITS A DEAL.
The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on 17th November, 2019 interviewed Trainer Faisal A. Abbas and Jockey S. Sunil in the above connection and having heard them and having viewed the video of Race No.151 (all angles – in normal as well as slow motion), the Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey S. Sunil and held him guilty of unsatisfactory riding on his mount IT’S A DEAL. In that, his instructions were to take a good jump and sit well up and to do his best in the straight, however, he made no effort to sit well up as instructed and was content to sit behind thus riding contrary to his instructions and his riding effort was found wanting. Therefore, the Stewards decided to suspend his Jockey’s license for Four Race Days i.e. from 8th December, 2019 to 22nd December, 2019 (both days inclusive) for unsatisfactory riding on IT’S A DEAL (permitted to ride work/mock race).
Further, the Stewards were also not entirely satisfied with the explanation tendered by Trainer Faisal A. Abbas in the subject case. However, they decided to give him the benefit of the doubt for the charge of “tacit approval” and severely cautioned him for the future.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “POLYNEICES” IN RACE NO. 156 – THE ALLIED FORCES PLATE (DIV – I) RUN ON 26th OCTOBER, 2019:
The Stipendiary Stewards reported that Trainer Nosher Cama and Jockey Yash Narredu were questioned individually in the above connection since Jockey Yash Narredu could not make himself available at the time given for the enquiry.
Trainer Nosher Cama said that he had instructed the Jockey to sit well up, come into the straight and keep him on the outside so that he has galloping room and to do his best. He added that he takes exception to the Jockey’s riding approaching the 800 metres at which point he can be seen strangling the horse for no reason. Thereafter, in the straight, when the horse starts moving well, he turns the horse’s head, brings him in and gets a check from the horse in front.
Jockey Yash Narredu stated he was asked to jump out, take a box seat and to do his best in the straight. The video recording of the race in question was viewed and to a specific question Jockey Yash Narredu stated that he did not take the gap available to him soon after the start on the rails as his horse lacked speed. It was pointed out to Jockey Yash Narredu that he could have tried harder to get into position. Further, it was pointed out to him that passing the 800 metres, he can be seen checking his mount and shifting out for no apparent reason. To this, he replied that the gap between him and the horses in front appears to have created since the front runners had eased up due to which FALCONETTE, racing directly behind them had to be checked causing him to check his mount too.
Trainer Nosher Cama and Jockey Yash Narredu were called again to the office together on 13th November, 2019 and questioned. The video recording of the race in question as well as the previous races of the gelding were viewed at which point Jockey Yash Narredu reiterated his reasons for being unable to follow the instructions and for having checked his mount passing 800 metres. However, not being satisfied with the submissions made by Jockey Yash Narredu, he was reported to the Stewards of the Club for unsatisfactory riding on POLYNEICES.
The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on 17th November, 2019 interviewed Trainer Nosher Cama and Jockey Yash Narredu in the above connection and having heard them and having viewed the video of Race No.156 (all angles – in normal as well as slow motion), the Stewards of the Club were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey Yash Narredu and held him guilty of unsatisfactory riding on his mount POLYNEICES. In that, his instructions were to take a box seat and coming into the straight make his move from the outside and do his best. Although he pushed the horse after the start, however, he could have made more efforts to sit well up as instructed and also it was observed that despite there being sufficient room along the rails, he checked his mount and shifted outwards. Further, passing the 800 metres when the front runners were approximately 2 lengths ahead, he restrained his mount for no apparent reason thereby dropping back. Thereafter, entering the straight he had the chance to make his move from the outside as instructed, however, he chose to shift in and his riding effort was found wanting. The Stewards noted that Trainer Nosher Cama also expressed his dissatisfaction with the riding. Therefore, the Stewards decided to suspend his Jockey’s license for Four Race Days i.e. from 8th December, 2019 to 22nd December, 2019 (both days inclusive) for unsatisfactory riding on POLYNEICES (permitted to ride work/mock race).
