RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE COMPARATIVE PERFORMANCE OF “STORMY PRINCESS” IN RACE NO.156 RUN ON 18TH JANUARY, 2014 WHICH THE MARE WON AS COMPARED TO HER PREVIOUS RUN IN RACE NO.127 RUN ON 5TH JANUARY, 2014 WHERE SHE WAS UNPLACED :
The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Mansoor Shah in the above connection. Tr.Mansoon Shah said that although STORMY PRINCESS was placed 9th in Race No.127, she was only 5 ¼ lengths from the winner. Also, she was interfered with twice in the straight in that race or else she would have finished even closer to the winner. He added that he had claimed 5 kg. allowance with App.S.G.Prasad and she was ridden by a 5 kg. claimer in her previous outing as well. Also, this race was restricted for horses 5 years old and over and therefore it was a weaker set as compared to last time.
Keeping in mind that the mare had finished about 5 lengths behind the winner, she was at longer odds and was ridden by same calibre riders both the times and the common horse STARSONBOARD had finished behind STORMY PRINCESS on both the occasions, the explanation tendered by the Trainer was noted.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “STARSONBOARD” IN RACE NO.156 – THE TRICUMDAS DWARKADAS TROPHY (DIV.I) (1200 METRES) RUN ON SATURDAY, 18TH JANUARY, 2014 :
The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Hosidar Daji and Jockey J.Pradeep in the above connection. Tr.Hosidar Daji said that he had instructed the Jockey to take a good jump and sit in the front bunch and to do his best in the straight. Jockey J.Pradeep confirmed the instructions and added that the mare took a level jump and although he pushed her, she was not keen and started dropping back and coming into the straight she coughed and therefore he did not go hard on her and immediately after the race he informed the Trainer that the mare was coughing. When asked as to why he did not report the same to the Stipendiary Stewards, Jockey J.Pradeep said that since the mare had returned sound he did not report the same to the Stipendiary Stewards. To another question, he said that he had worked the mare prior to the race and she did not cough at work.
Trainer Hosidar Daji confirmed that the Jockey had informed him after the race that the mare had coughed in the race and hence he had got the mare scoped by Dr.Prashant Wandhare the next day and she was found to have severe Respiratory Tract infection and was put on antibiotics. He said that a copy of the report was sent to the Club’s Sr.V.O.
Attention of Trainer Hosidar Daji and Jockey J.Pradeep was drawn to the Rules of Racing and they were cautioned that in the future they should immediately bring to the attention of the Stipendiary Stewards anything that occurs in a race, which in their opinion had a bearing on the performance of the horse.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “MOUNTAIN RULER” IN RACE NO.156 – THE TRICUMDAS DWARKADAS TROPHY (DIV.I) (1200 METRES) RUN ON SATURDAY, 18TH JANUARY, 2014 :
The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer H.J.Antia and Jockey Hanumant Singh in the above connection. Trainer Antia stated that MOUNTAIN RULER came to his charge in March 2013 and this was the first run of the horse in his charge. The horse has soundness issues and last raced in 2011 prior to this race. Therefore, he was not sure how the horse will perform and he did not give any specific instructions to the Jockey and had told him to ride his own race. Tr.H.J.Antia was told that if the horse was unsound and he was not sure how the horse would take the race, then he should have run the horse in a mock race, to which he did not have a satisfactory explanation.
Jockey Hanumant Singh confirmed the instructions and added that he wanted to settle the horse and give him a chance in the early part but the pace was fast and the horse could not keep pace, when he pushed the horse, he put his ears back and changed legs and therefore he sat behind and did not punish the horse.
The video recording of the race was viewed and it was pointed out to Jockey Hanumant Singh that he had made no effort to improve his position in the early part and had unnecessarily come wide round the bend and was not vigorous in his riding effort throughout the race. Jockey Hanumant Singh said that he found the horse uncomfortable, however, he kept niggling at the horse all the way but the horse was not responding.
When asked for his observation of the Jockey’s riding, Trainer H.J.Antia said that the Jockey should have made an effort to improve his position in the early part and he should have been more vigorous in his riding effort although it would not have made much difference to the horse’s performance. He said that Jockey Hanumant Singh had worked the horse but in the race he was probably scared to ride out vigorously. He added that he had two other runners in this race viz. ICE AGE and ICE GATE who he had given a better chance and he was concentrating on those two horses and had failed to notice Jockey Hanumant Singh’s ride on MOUNTAIN RULER.
The Stipendiary Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Trainer H.J.Antia and Jockey Hanumant Singh. However, considering the soundness issues of the horse and keeping in mind that the horse was running after a gap of nearly two and half years, they took a lenient view in the matter and fined both the Trainer and Jockey a sum of Rs.10,000/- each for unsatisfactory running and riding of the horse.
