RACE DAY REPORTS

RAILS WERE PLACED FROM 1400 METRES LEADING TO 5 METRES AWAY AT 1200 METRES, 7 METRES AWAY AT 1000 METRES AND THEREAFTER 8 METRES AWAY UP TO THE WINNING POST.

ALL RACES OF 1400 METRES AND 1600 METRES WERE STARTED FROM THE BACK STRETCH AND NOT FROM THE CHUTE.  THE STARTING GATES FOR 1400 RACES WERE PLACED AT 1450 METRES.

 

On a request from Trainer Dallas Todywalla, permission was granted to Trainer Imtiaz A.Sait to saddle his charges SCARLIATTI (2nd race), CARLYLE HILLS (3rd race), HOTTIE (7th race) and EMERALD ROMANCE (8th race), at his (Trainer Dallas Todywalla‘s) risk and responsibility.

On a request from Trainer Vinayak permission was granted to Trainer Suresh Chavan to saddle his charges WIND OF THE NORTH (2nd race), OCEAN ODYSSEY (4th race), OCEAN GIRL (5th race) and MOUNTAIN TREASURE (7th race), at his (Trainer Vinayak‘s) risk and responsibility.

On a request from Trainer Shyam S.Habbu, permission was granted to Trainer P.Shroff to saddle his charge MAGDALENA in the 3rd race, at his (Trainer Shyam S.Habbu‘s) risk and responsibility.

On a request from Trainer J.S.Dhariwal, permission was granted to Trainer P.Shroff to saddle his charge SIACHEN in the 6th race, at his (Trainer J.S.Dhariwal’s) risk and responsibility.

On a request from Trainer Zadmal Singh, permission was granted to Trainer Subhag Singh to saddle his charge FAST AND FURIOUS in the 7th race, at his (Trainer Zadmal Singh’s) risk and responsibility.

RACE NO.1 (107) – THE  AIR WOLF PLATE: (About) 1200 Metres – Runners - 8

 

Trainer P.Shroff has been fined Rs.3000/- for arriving late in to the Paddock.

 

WORD OF HONOUR (Shrikant Kamble) reared up as the start was effected thus losing about 2 lengths at the start.

 

At the start, AL HUZZAH (D.K.Ashish) tried to veer to the outside and therefore was slow in to strides.

 

Jockeys S.Sunil (MACHALA) and Shrikant Kamble (WORD OF HONOUR) have been fined Rs.3000/- each for using the whip in excess of the prescribed limit on their respective mount.

 

After the race, AL HUZZAH was found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.2 (108)  – THE  SECRET HALO PLATE: (About) 1400 Metres – Runners – 8

(The Starting Gates were placed at 1450 Metres instead of 1400 Metres.)

 

Approaching 1200 metres, WIND OF THE NORTH (R.Hughes) shifted in and went across SECRET WEAPON (C.Rajendra) and then shifted in further and tightened SCARLATTI (Samuel Fargeat) who was checked. Jockey R.Hughes has been fined Rs.3000/- for failing to exercise proper control over his mount.

 

MAPLE STAR (Zameer Sayyed) hung out throughout the race placing the Rider at a disadvantage. Trainer Karthik G. has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the filly.

 

Approaching 300 metres, SILVER BIRCH (S.Zervan), which laid out throughout, rolled out inconveniencing WIND OF THE NORTH (R.Hughes).

After the race, SILVER BIRCH, WIND OF THE NORTH and MAPLE STAR, were found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.3 (109) – THE  WESTERN INDIA BOOKMAKERS’ ASSOCIATION TROPHY (DIV.II): (About) 1400 Metres. Runners – 10

(The Starting Gates were placed at 1450 Metres instead of 1400 Metres.)

Jockey V.Chandrakant (CARLYLE HILLS) has been cautioned for not making sufficient effort in the early part of the race to be in position as instructed, which was to be in 4th or 5th position.  

 

Jockey Ishwar Pardeshi (KALINGA STAR) reported that his mount started to drop back near 300 metres. The  Sr.V.O. was requested to examine the gelding and he reported that KALINGA STAR was examined on 02/01/2012 and found to be sound.

After the race, MUSICAL RHAPSODY was found to be sore by the right fore leg. The mare has to be passed fit by the Club’s VO before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, MAGDALENA was found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.4 (110)  – THE  NEW YEAR TROPHY (DIV.II): (About) 1000 Metres - Runners – 15

 

Jockey C.Rajendra was declared to ride two horses in this race i.e. HEAVENLY PRIZE by Trainer S.K.Sunderj and WILD IMAGINATION by Trainer Narendra Lagad. After enquiring, Trainer Narendra Lagad was fined Rs.1000/- for declaring Jockey C.Rajendra without his consent.

 

An objection was lodged by Jockey Akash Agarwal, rider of STUNTACULAR (placed 2nd) against OCEAN ODYSSEY (R.Hughes, placed first). The reason being, after 100 metres from the start, OCEAN ODYSSEY came in sharply whereby he had to check his mount.

After considering the submissions made by the Jockeys concerned, in conjunction with that of the Stipendiary Stewards  and relying on their judgment, the Stewards decided to over-rule the objection and forfeit the deposit.

 

Soon after the start, OCEAN ODYSSEY (R.Hughes, dr.15) cut across the entire field to be along the rails and in the process went on to HEAVENLY PRIZE (C.Rajendra) who was steadied and then went across WILD IMAGINATION (Shrikant Kamble). The matter has been reported to the Stewards for such action as deemed fit.

 

The Stewards after the last race interviewed Jockey R.Hughes in the above connection and having heard him and having viewed the video recording of the race, decided to give him the benefit of the doubt for careless riding and to warn him to be more careful in the future.

 

RACE NO.5 (111) – THE  WESTERN INDIA BOOKMAKERS’ ASSOCIATION TROPHY (DIV.I): (About) 1400 Metres. – Runners – 10

(The Starting Gates were placed at 1450 Metres instead of 1400 Metres.)

 

OCEAN GIRL (R.Hughes) and MISHRI (S.Zervan) hung out in the straight. AWESOME SMILE (Imran Chisty) hung out while negotiating the bend and in the straight. PERSIAN (S Sunil) lugged out in the straight. Trainers Vinayak, Imtiaz A.Sait, H.J.Antia and Sanjay Kolse have been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race their respective mounts.

 

After the race, MARUDHARA RATAN was observed to have lost his right hind plate. OCEAN GIRL, AWESOME SMILE and MISHRI were found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.6 (112)  – THE  MORELLATO BY GITANJALI LIFESTYLE MILLION : (About) 1400 Metres – Runners - 11

(The Starting Gates were placed at 1450 Metres instead of 1400 Metres.)

 

Approaching 1200 metres, WEIZHOU (S.Sunil) became keen due to SIACHEN (C.Ruzaan) coming abreast with him on its inside and was steadied and eased off the heels of STAR TRAINER (R.Hughes) and shifted out and made contact with ANCIENT WONDER (David Allan) who was inconvenienced.

 

Travelling some distance further, HATSUHANA (Malcolm Kharadi) shifted in, due to which, in anticipation BEAUTIFUL STRANGER (C.S.Jodha) shifted in and tightened WEIZHOU (S.Sunil) who in turn hampered the running of SIACHEN (C.Ruzaan).

At the behest of the Stipendiary Stewards, a Stewards Enquiry was held in this race. The reason being, about 150 metres after the jump ELIZABETH (S.Zervan) slightly shifted in and to maintain his position Jockey R.Hughes (STAR TRAINER, placed second) went in and took the rails. Further, Jockey R.Hughes pushed Jockey S.Zervan with his elbow and pushed him out. As such, Jockey R.Hughes was reported for Foul Riding.

 

After considering the submissions made by the Jockeys concerned, in conjunction with that of the Stipendiary Stewards  and relying on their judgment, the Stewards decided to disqualify STAR TRAINER  (placed send) for foul riding and revised the order of placing of the race as under :-

ANCIENT WONDER                 -           FIRST;             HATSUHANA                           -           THIRD;

PORTRUSH                             -           SECOND;         BEAUTIFUL STRANGER          -           FOURTH

 

The Stewards after the last race interviewed Jockey R.Hughes in the above connection. Having heard the submissions made and having viewed the video recording of the race, the Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey R.Hughes and held him guilty of Foul Riding on his mount STAR TRAINER. However, before taking a decision in the matter, the Stewards wished to give Jockey R.Hughes one more opportunity to defend himself and hence adjourned the hearing to Thursday, 5th January, 2012. The Stipendiary Stewards were directed to issue a letter to Jockey R.Hughes to show cause in writing as to why necessary/appropriate action should not be taken against him by the Stewards of the Club for foul riding and also to appear before the Stewards of the Club after the last race on Thursday, 5th January, 2012.

 

After the race, STAR FUTURE was found to be sore by the right fore leg. The gelding are has to be passed fit by the Club’s VO before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, SIACHEN and HATSUHANA (examined on 02/01/2012) were found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.7 (113) – THE  NEW YEAR TROPHY (DIV.I):  (About) 1000 Metres – Runners – 16

 

In the process of being stalled, STRINGSOFMYHEART (App.Prabhu Naidu) kicked the stall and also kicked FOLLOW THE DREAM (Ishwar Pardeshi). Both the horses were examined by the Club’s V.O. and certified fit to race. Both the horses were reluctant to be stalled. Trainers Altaf Hussain and Faisal A.Abbas have been asked to give their respective charge more gate practice and show them to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.

 

FAST AND FURIOUS  (R.K.Mahesh) was slow to begin.

At the start, TOWERING HIGH (C.S.Jodha) knuckled under and was slow to begin. SUKI SUKI (M.A.Roushan) jumped out awkwardly throwing its head around. FOXTROT (S.S.Baria, dr.1) jumped awkwardly outwards and at the same time SILKEN QUEEN (Kavraj Singh, dr.3) jumped awkwardly inwards and tightened JOSEPHINE (S Zervan, dr.2).

 

After the race, HOTTIE was found to be sore by the left fore leg. The mare has to be passed fit by the Club’s VO before next accepting to race.

 

The Sr.V.O. reported that SILKEN QUEEN collapsed after the race. First aid was given on the track, however, there was no sensation in the back and spine and the filly could not get up. After consent of the trainer, the filly was euthanized on humane grounds with suspected fracture of vertebrae.

 

After the race, TOWERING HIGH was observed to have a cut injury at the right hind tendon area.

 

RACE NO.8 (114) – THE  AZTEC PLATE:  (About) 1600 Metres – Runners – 12

 

At the request of Trainer Himmat Singh, SPARKLER was examined on 31/12/2011 and was found to be sore by the left fore leg, as such, the gelding was certified unfit to race and was withdrawn on Veterinary grounds. The gelding has to be passed fit

by the Club’s VO before next accepting to race. 

 

At the start, ADVENTURER (Daniel M.Grant) jumped out awkwardly. BRAVE GYPSY (Kavraj Singh) was slow to begin.

 

Jockey C.Rajendra (VISIONAIRE) was reported to the Stewards for dropping his hands before passing the Winning Post thereby losing second place. The Stewards interviewed Jockey C.Rajendra and not being satisfied with the explanation tendered by him, decided to fine him a sum of Rs.10,000/-. Further, he was severely cautioned for the future.

The post race urine sample of the winner of 1st, 4th and 6th race, viz. DESERT EAGLE, OCEAN ODYSSEY and ANCIENT WONDER as also that of PORTRUSH & HATSUHANA 6th race) and the special sample of WIND OF THE NORTH (2nd race) and MAGDALENA (3rd race), were collected for detection of prohibited substances.
