ERRATUM:
RE : RACES HELD ON
THURSDAY, 8th DECEMBER, 2016:
The
Sr. V.O. reported that at the meeting of the Stewards of the Club held on 8th
December, 2016 the following four horses were selected for testing of post
race urine samples :
1. VULCAN
2. BEACH GAME
3. STAR
COMRADE
4. COMMODORE
The
Sr. V.O. said that the urine samples of the above horses were sent for testing
to QuantiLAB, Mauritius. However, whilst submitting
the race day sampling report to the Racing Department and Account Department,
he erroneously mentioned the name of IMPERIAL PRINCESS instead of BEACH GAME,
which was published in the Race Day Report accordingly.
The
Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on 1st January, 2017
considered the above report and having heard the Sr. V.O., directed the office
to amend the records.

ADDITIONAL
REPORTS :
RE : ENQUIRY RE-OPENED INTO THE
RUNNING AND RIDING OF “DIWALI LIGHTS (VIKRAM JODHA) IN RACE NO.27 - THE FREE
RADICAL PLATE (DIV.II) RUN ON 1st DECEMBER, 2016 AFTER THE HORSE WON
IN RACE NO.52 – THE SNOW DEW PLATE , RUN ON 15TH DECEMBER, 2016 :
The Stewards of the Club at their
meeting held on 25th December, 2016 having interviewed Trainer H. J.
Antia in the above connection, had adjourned the
hearing since Jockey Vikram Jodha
was unable for questioning on that day.
The Stewards of the Club at their
meeting held on 1st January, 2017 interviewed Trainer H. J. Antia and Jockey Vikram Jodha in the above connection and having heard the
submissions made and having viewed the video of Race No.27, the Stewards were
not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey Vikram
Jodha and held him guilty of unsatisfactory riding on
his mount DIWALI LIGHTS in the above race. However, keeping in mind his recent
clean record, the Stewards took a lenient view and decided to suspend his
Jockey’s license w.e.f. 19th January, 2017
to 5th February, 2017 (both days inclusive) for unsatisfactory
riding. Further, he was cautioned that on a repetition of a similar offence,
severe action may be initiated against him (permitted to ride work/mock race).
Further, the Stewards were also not
satisfied with the explanation tendered by Trainer H. J. Antia
and held the view that Jockey Vikram Jodha would not have ridden in this manner unless he had
the Trainer’s tacit approval. Therefore, the Stewards decided to fine Trainer
H. J. Antia a sum of Rs.30,000/-
for unsatisfactory running of his charge DIWALI LIGHTS in Race No.27. Further,
he was severely cautioned for the future.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE IMPROVED
PERFORMANCE OF “ROYAL SAPPHIRE” (DRAWN 6) IN RACE NO 74 THE CONRAD PEREIRA TROPHY
RUN ON 25th DECEMBER 2016 AS COMPARED TO RACE NO.58 - THE DHUN P
KOTHAVALA TROPHY (1000 METRES) – RUN ON THURSDAY, 15th DECEMBER,
2016
:
The Stipendiary Stewards reported that
they had questioned Trainer Narendra Lagad in the above connection. He said that in Race No.58.
ROYAL SAPPHIRE was ridden by Jockey Bhawani Singh who
had reported after the race in the presence of the Owners that the mare was
loaded early and since the loading took time, the mare became very relaxed and
when the start was given she was slow to begin. Thereafter, the mare covered
ground very fast to finish 9 ¾ lengths behind the winner in a 1000 metres race. He further added that in her first start at
Mumbai in Race No.12, the mare had finished a good 3rd and
attributed the mare’s poor performance in Race No.58 to her getting left at the
start after which he had given the mare sufficient Gate Practice as a result of
which she took a flying jump in Race No.74.
Trainer Narendra
Lagad further added that Race No.58 was an open Class
IV race as compared to Race No.74 which was confined to horses 5-years old and
over and the horses that finished behind ROYAL SAPPHIRE had no great form to go
by except MT TIANMEN who was the only common horse in the race and had run
below form compared to his last run.
The Video recording of Race No.58 as
also Race No.74 (all angles), was viewed and Trainer Narendra
Lagad pointed out that in Race No.74 ROYAL SAPPHIRE
was given a handler in the stall which may have helped in keeping her alert.
Having heard the submissions and
viewing the video of both the races and keeping in mind that the mare had won
in a short span of 9 days, the matter was reported to the Stewards for such
action as deemed fit.
The Stewards of the Club at their
meeting held on 1st January, 2017 interviewed Trainer Narendra Lagad and Jockey Bhawani Singh in the above connection and having heard them
and having viewed the video of both the races, decided that no action was
called for in the matter.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO
THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “DUSK N DAWN” (DRAWN 6) IN RACE NO.190 - THE
RED DRAGON PLATE DIV.II (1000 METRES) – RUN ON FRIDAY, 21st OCTOBER,
2016
:
The Stipendiary Stewards had initiated
the above enquiry in Pune and Trainer Mansoor Shah was sent call letters twice to appear before
them for the enquiry. However, the first time Trainer Mansoor
Shah informed that he would be out of station and will not be able to attend
the enquiry. On the second occasion he cited medical reasons for not appearing
before the Stipendiary Stewards for the enquiry and hence the delay in
completing the enquiry.
Trainer Mansoor
Shah and Apprentice S. A. Amit were questioned on 23rd
December, 2016 in the above connection. App. S. A. Amit
stated that he was instructed to sit in a forward position and to do his best.
He said that soon after the start the mare did not show initial speed as such
he had to brush her up to get into a forward position, however, she still did
not respond. Thereafter, passing the 400 metres, he
gave her a couple of reminders and rode her all out. To another question, he
said that he had given similar instructions on both occasions i.e. in Race
No.190 run at Pune and in Race No.69 at Mumbai where
the mare won.
When asked to explain the poor performance
of DUSK N DAWN in race No 190, Trainer Mansoor Shah
said that she was a 5 year old mare who will soon turn 6 years old and she was
a maiden until her win in Race No.69 on 22nd December, 2016. He said
that the first time she ran 2nd in her career was at Pune during the just concluded Pune
Meeting 2016 and that run had given them some hope but in her very next outing
she ran a poor race and followed this pattern in her next three runs, which
lead them to believe that she was not genuine. He said that her performance
indicates that she is very inconsistent and they had decided to get rid of her
along with a few other horses, however, since she was in the lowest
class, they were unable to find buyers for her. He added that the only reason
he had accepted with her in Race No 69 was to avoid the race going void.
Further, after the Acceptances Jockey Neeraj Rawal had called him up enquiring for a ride and since he
had two runners in this race, he gave him the option to choose and Jockey Neeraj Rawal opted to ride SUPER
BOLT, hence he had declared Jockey S. A. Amit on DUSK
N DAWN. To another question, Trainer Mansoor Shah
said that he had expected SUPER BOLT to run ahead of DUSK N DAWN as he was
ridden by a superior Jockey and the win of DUSK N DAWN surprised him.
When confronted with regards to the
drift in odds in Race No.190, Trainer Mansoor Shah
said that the odds had also drifted when the mare won in Race No.69 in Mumbai.
Having heard the submissions made and viewing
the video of Race No.190 and keeping in mind that the performance of the mare
in relation to the common horse AMAZON CAT during the Pune
Meeting was the same, the explanation tendered by Trainer Mansoor
Shah and Jockey S. A. Amit was noted.
