RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “BETHPAGE” IN RACE NO.247 – THE JAYARAMDAS PATEL GOLD TROPHY RUN ON SUNDAY, 8TH MARCH, 2015 :

Trainer Nazak Chenoy and Jockey Imran Chisty were questioned in the above connection. The Trainer was of the opinion that the Jockey is capable of riding in a far better manner and should have won the race.

Jockey Imran Chisty stated that his instructions were to sit in 3rd/4th position and to do his best in the straight. He siaid that the filly wasn’t quick at the jump and he did not want to push and use the filly at that stage and therefore he rode her as he found her. He said that the filly was hesitant while racing along the rails and entering for home straight, he puller her out as he had a wall of horses in front of him and then did his best. To a question put to him on the use of whip in the straight wherein he had used the whip only four times despite the filly responding and improving, he said that he had to first get the filly in rhythm and when he did use the whip, the filly hung in.

Not being satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey Imran Chisty, the matter was reported to the Stewards for unsatisfactory riding.

The Stewards at their meeting held on Thursday, 19th March, 2015 interviewed Trainer Nazak Chenoy and Jockey Imran Chisty and having heard them and having viewed the video of the race :-

a)       directed the Stipendiary Stewards to deal with the matter, as far as Jockey Imran Chisty was concerned;

b)       decided to caution Trainer Nazak Chenoy for changing her statement in the enquiry.

Accordingly, the Stipendiary Stewards decided to suspend Jockey’ Imran Chisty from riding in races w.e.f. 4th April, 2015 to 5th April, 2015 (both days inclusive) and to fine him a sum of Rs.25,000/- for unsatisfactory riding on his mount BETHPAGE. (permitted to ride work/mock race).

Jockey Imran Chisty informed that he did not wish to appeal against the decision and would like his punishment to start earlier. As such, the suspension of his Jockey’s license will now be from 29th March, 2015 to 4th April, 2015/- and a fine of Rs.25,000/- for unsatisfactory riding on BETHPAGE in Race No.247.
