Trainer Narendra Lagad and Jockey Darren Williams (NAZRANA) were questioned with regard to running and riding of NAZRANA.  The trainer stated that the instructions were to sit up in 5th, 6th position wherever comfortable and do his best in the straight. Jockey confirmed the instructions and stated that after the start he gave his horse a squeeze but the gelding did not muster enough speed and therefore he tucked him in and waited till the straight. He added that he did not want to travel wide around the bend therefore he continued to ride from where he was already positioned, and in the straight, the gelding lugged in and added that he could not have beaten the winner.  The trainer expressed his dissatisfaction with regard to the riding of his charge.  The matter was reported to the Stewards.

The Stewards interviewed Jockey Darren Williams and Trainer Narendra Lagad and not being satisfied with the explanation of the Jockey, held him guilty of Unsatisfactory Riding on his mount whereby he did not follow the Instructions of the Trainer.

An enquiry was held into the running and riding of ELLIPSIS. When questioned trainer Zadmal Singh stated that the Jockey had not followed the Instructions which were to settle the filly wherever comfortable in the early part and near 1400 metres to judge the pace and if it was slow then to progress to 2nd position and ride his own race from 800 metres. The trainer observed that the jockey did not improve his position as instructed near 1400 metres and he rode the filly from the inside whereas she gallops well on the outside. When questioned jockey Dashrath Singh confirmed the instructions and added that it was an error of judgment on his part near 1400 metres not to have brushed up and sat well up. He argued that if he had to brush up at that stage he would have caused the filly to travel more ground. The trainer contented that it was not so and rather the jockey has travelled wide while negotiating the bend. He further added that the jockey had tugged at the filly on two occasions near 1400 metres and further that the filly has gained ground towards the end and if the jockey had positioned his mount as instructed then surely the filly could have won.  On further questioning the jockey admitted there was an error of judgment on his part as far as the pace of the race at that stage was concerned.

After viewing the race, Jockey Dashrath Singh has been given benefit of grave doubt since it was left to his judgment of pace in the race and he chose to do what appeared to him to be right.  Further, a close watch will be kept of the running of the horse in the future.
