ADDITIONAL REPORT/S:

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE COMPARATIVE PERFORMANCE OF “ESSENSE OF LOVE” (WINNER) IN RACE NO.162 – THE PHOENIX RESIDENCES TURF CHALLENGE (DIV.II) RUN ON 27TH SEPTEMBER, 2014 AS COMPARED TO ITS PREVIOUS RUNS DURING THE PUNE MEETING 2014 – TRAINER H.J.ANTIA

The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Saturday, 11th October, 2014 considered Note from the Stipendiary Stewards on the above subject and interviewed Trainer H.J.Antia.  The Stewards considered all the submissions made by Trainer H.J.Antia and also considered all papers, documents and proceedings as regards the captioned matter. The Stewards having deliberated the matter at length were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Trainer H.J.Antia and held him guilty of contravening the Calendar Notification Re : Comparative Performance of Horses winning within a short span of time”. The Stewards noted that prior to Race No.162, ESSENCE OF LOVE raced four times during the current Pune Meeting and in the last three runs had finished more than 20 lengths behind the winner and thereafter showed sudden marked improvement to win Race No.162 on 27th September, 2014 in a short span of thirteen days. Also, Trainer H.J.Antia admitted before the Stewards that the horse had shown sudden marked improvement for which he had no explanation to offer, except stating that he had not fancied the horse and this win had surprised him. The Stewards also noted Trainer H.J.Antia’s past record. However, keeping in mind that the horse was at longer odds, the Stewards took a lenient view in the matter and decided :-

a)       To suspend his Trainer’s license for 26th October, 2014;

b)       To fine him a sum of Rs.25,000/-.
