RACE NO.1(140) – THE  NATIONALISTIC PLATE (DIV.II): (About) 1600 Metres – 8 Runners

DIVINE WISH (Sandeep Jadhav) took an awkward fly jump throwing its head resulting in losing about 3 lengths at the start. Trainer Altaf Hussain has been asked to give the filly more gate practice and show her to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.

Jockey Sandeep Jadhav (DIVINE WISH) has been reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift-out in the straight under the use of whip.

LHOTSE (Kishore Kadam) lugged-in in the straight. This being the third occasion that the filly has behaved in this manner, Trainer Sangramsinh N.Joshi has been asked to take remedial measures and to show the filly to the satisfaction of Stipendiary Stewards in a mock race, before next accepting to race.

ALLEGIANCE (I.Pasha) trailed the field. Trainer Narendra Lagad has been asked to ensure that the gelding runs more competitively in its future races.

After the race, PHELPS was observed to have a bruise on the left hind fetlock. ALLEGIANCE and DIVINE WISH were found to be sound.

RACE NO.2(141) – THE PROTEUS PLATE : (About) 1400 Metres – 8 Runners

TO THE MOON (App.D.S.Daman) jumped out slow, losing about 7 lengths at the start. Trainer Narendra Lagad has been asked to give the mare more gate practice and show her to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.

VOICE OF FAITH (Zameer Sayyed) commenced to run outwards from 800 metres, and hung-out further while negotiating the bend and raced along the outer rails, and in trying to exercise control over his mount, the bit slipped to the right side whereby the rider was unable to ride out. Trainer S.S.Shah has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the colt.

TO THE MOON (App.D.S.Daman) hesitated at jump-out and lost considerable ground and joined the field near 1000 metres. When questioned, App.D.S.Daman stated that his instructions were to be in 3rd or 4th position and to do his best. The Apprentice added that since the mare was slowly out, he did not brush her up to take position as instructed due to uphill climb, and then he had gradually improved his position and has done his best.

The Sr.V.O. reported that after completion of the race,  ALWAYS THERE was observed to be returning sore from the left fore leg.  First Aid treatment was administered on the track and the filly was sent to the Equine Hospital by Horse Ambulance for further management. The filly has to be passed fit by the Club’s V.O. before next accepting to race.

Trainer Dallas Todywalla and Jockey Sandeep Jadhav were questioned regarding the running and riding of STAR OF GIBRALTAR. The Trainer said that since this was a 2400 metres race and he felt the horse may not get the distance, therefore, he had asked the Jockey to sit off pace, and if the pace was slow, to be in a 3rd/4th position. The Trainer added that there being no 2000 metres race in the recent future, he had taken a chance in this race. He said that the horse has lost form. Jockey Sandeep Jadhav was informed that he had kept his mount too far back and had not tried to follow the Instructions and hence has been cautioned for inept handling of his mount.

After the race, THE MINISTERIAN was observed to have an abrasion at the left hind pastern. OKAVANGO was found to be sound.

RACE NO.4(143) – THE  ENAKSI PLATE: (About) 2000 Metres – 9 Runners

An objection was lodged by Jockey N.S.Parmar, rider of BETHPAGE (Placed Second) against SQUARE MOON (Kavraj Singh,  Placed First). The reason being, around the final bend, Jockey Kavraj Singh (SQUARE MOON) deliberately knocked him and made his run at that precise moment when his filly was getting into the race and making progress due to which he lost position at a crucial moment which cost him a certain race. His filly still made up all that ground and had it not been for the knock, he would have definitely won the race.

After considering the submissions made by the Jockeys concerned, in conjunction with that of the Stipendiary Stewards  and relying on their judgment, the Stewards decided to overrule the objection.

The saddle on HALLELUJAH (Akshay) was observed to have slipped forward soon after the start, and passing 1600 metres, the filly drifted outwards as the Jockey lost control over his mount and the filly raced along the outer rails and stopped galloping shortly thereafter. Trainer Janardhan has been fined Rs 2,000/-.

Near 600 metres, RED FORT (H.A.Sachin) weakened and was also inconvenienced while racing on the inside of ELAHEH (Y.S.Srinath) and dropped back, while doing so AD ASTRA (Neeraj Rawal) was inconvenienced.

Jockey Kavraj Singh (SQUARE MOON) has been fined Rs. 1,000/- for using the whip in excess of the prescribed limit on his mount.

RACE NO.5(144) – THE CARDINAL TROPHY: (About) 2000 Metres – 7 Runners

Trainer M.K.Jadhav and Jockey A.Sandesh were questioned regarding the running and riding of STRAWBERRY CRUSH. The instructions were to ride from the front but if somebody else goes to the front, then to sit 2nd and do his best and also to make good pace if in front. The Trainer added that STRAWBERRY CRUSH is a stayer and had to be ridden with good pace. He added that he had hoped that someone else will make the running. The Trainer observed that the gelding went to the front in a similar manner as he had raced during the Mumbai Meeting, but felt that the gelding did not concentrate once in front. The Trainer added that during the Mumbai Meeting, STRAWBERRY CRUSH had gone to the front and won by a short margin. The explanation was noted.

After the race,  SNOWING and PRESENCE were found to be sound.

Near 300 metres, POLYDENCES (App.Yash Narredu) shifted-in under the use of whip and caused interference to CLASSIC MOMENT (Dashrath Singh). Apprentice Yash Narredu informed that the filly was leaning in at that stage. It was put to the Apprentice that before he could use the whip, the filly was inclined to shift in and instead of correcting his mount, he had used the whip twice and allowed his mount to shift in and caused interference to CLASSIC MOMENT, a fancied runner. App.Yash Narredu has been suspended for 11th October 2014 for careless riding (Permitted to ride work / mock race).

App.Yash Narredu (POLYDENCES) reported the loss of whip near 150 metres. His explanation that while using the whip, it made contact with the running rail and therefore he lost the whip was noted.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE RIDING OF JOCKEY A.SANDESH ON “ALECTAR” IN RACE NO.132 – THE ACT IN TIME PLATE RUN ON 14TH SEPTEMBER, 2014 :

The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Saturday, 20th September, 2014 interviewed Trainer Altaf Hussain and Jockey A.Sandesh in the above connection and having heard them and having viewed the video recording of Race No.132, were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey A.Sandesh. However, the Stewards decided to give him the benefit of the doubt for the charge of “unsatisfactory riding” and held him guilty of riding an ill-judged race. The Stewards noted that his instructions were to sit in 2nd/3rd/4th position, however, he made no apparent effort to position his horse as instructed and was content to sit last. Thereafter, approaching the final bend when BACKSTREET BAY made his move, he waited too long to make his move and allowed the front horse to take a big break and also picked up his whip only in the last furlong when it was too late to catch up with the winner and this possibly cost him the race since he lost by half a length. Also, Trainer Altaf Hussain confirmed that if the Jockey had sat close as instructed, he could have won the race. Therefore, the Stewards decided to fine Jockey A.Sandesh a sum of Rs.10,000/- and to severely caution him for the future.
