RACE DAY REPORTS
THERE WERE NO FALSE RAILS
On a request from Trainer Dallas Todywalla, permission was granted to Trainer Nirad Karanjawala to saddle his charges TATIANA, RAVELLO and FRANKANELLA in the 4th, 7th and 8th races respectively, at his (Trainer Dallas Todywalla’s) risk and responsibility.

RACE NO.1(35) – THE STAR COMRADE PLATE: (About) 1800 Metres – 5 Runners
After the race, LIGHT OF ARABIA was found to be sound, but having a cut injury at the right hind bulb of heel.
RACE NO.2(36) – THE RADIANT PLATE (DIV.II): (About) 1600 Metres – 8 Runners
SPLENDID LIGHT (J.Chinoy) was restless in the stall and not allowing the rider to settle. Trainer Karthik G. has been asked to give the filly more gate practice and show her to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.
HOT PEPPER (T.S.Jodha) hung-out in the straight. Trainer S.S.Shah has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the gelding.
After the race, HOT PEPPER was found to be sound.
RACE NO.3(37) – THE NELSON RIVER PLATE: (About) 1000 Metres – 7 Runners
Shortly after the start, MATEUS ROSE (Dashrath Singh) was tightened as SPEED BABY (C.S.Jodha) shifted out. Jockey C.S.Jodha has been cautioned.
App.Akshay Gaikwad (MARENGO) has been cautioned for allowing his mount to travel wide in the straight.
After the race, CONCORDE was observed to have a cut injury at the right hind pastern and MATEUS ROSE had an abrasion at the left hind fetlock. MARENGO was found to be sound.
RACE NO.4(38) – THE RADIANT PLATE (DIV.I): (About) 1600 Metres – 9 Runners
Near 500 metres, FEAST OF LOVE (P.Trevor) shifted out as the filly was manoeuvred from the outside of CYCLOPS (App.D S Daman) who also shifted out at that stage, due to which FEAST OF LOVE was forced to travel further out and in turn made contact with DELIGHTFUL LADY (App.Yash Narredu) on its outside.
TATIANA (Dashrath Singh) lugged-in in the straight. Trainer Dallas Todywalla has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the filly.
After the race, TATIANA and ESSENCE OF LOVE were found to be sound.
RACE NO.5(39) – THE ALBERTINI PLATE (DIV.I): (About) 1000 Metres – 10 Runners
ENGLISH LASS (Kavraj Singh) was reluctant to be stalled. ETERNAL ROYALTY (P.Trevor) was restless in the stall and not allowing the rider to settle. Trainers Adhirajsingh Jodha and S.S.Shah have been asked to give their respective charge more gate practice and show them to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.
At the start, SENOR D (S.Sunil, dr.1) jumped awkwardly outwards and went on to CHIEF GUEST (Akshay, dr.2) and at the same time, GOLDEN LILLY (J.Chinoy, dr.3) jumped awkwardly inwards and went across CHIEF GUEST.
At the start, JUST MY STYLE (S.G.Prasad) jumped awkwardly outwards and then tried to veer outwards. Trainer Sangramsinh N.Joshi has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the filly.
Soon after the start, JUST MY STYLE (S.G.Prasad) stumbled on its own.
At 500 metres, ELAHEH (M.A.Roushan) shifted-in when not sufficiently clear off LUCKY PINEAPPLE (A.Sandesh) on its inside. Jockey M.A.Roushan has been cautioned.
After the race, JUST MY STYLE was observed to have broken a blood vessel and is not to race for the stipulated ban period of four weeks. The filly has to be passed fit by the Club’s V.O. before next accepting to race.
RACE NO.6(40) – THE HAWKE BAY PLATE: (About) 1000 Metres – 12 Runners
Trainer Sangramsinh N.Joshi has been fined Rs.1,000/- for bringing his charge ADVANCE TO CONTACT into the Parade Ring without the Cross Nose band, an equipment for the use of which prior permission was obtained. The horse ran with the Cross Nose Band.
HABIBIANS (S.Sameer) jumped out awkwardly throwing its head and thereafter veered towards the inside, resulting in the gelding losing considerable ground at the start. Trainer Vijay Kasbekar has been asked to give the gelding more gate practice and show him to the satisfaction of the Starter in a Mock Race, before next accepting to race.
At the start, WIND CRAFT (C.Umesh) jumped awkwardly inwards.
Near 300 metres, WARRIOR PRINCE (S.P.Ranjane) did not get a clear run while racing on the inside and behind PERITOMORENO (S.Zervan).
Jockey P.Trevor (NATURE BOY) reported that his mount lost its footing at the start and after that he found the gelding uncomfortable. The Sr. Veterinary Officer was requested to examine the gelding and he reported that no abnormality was detected.
After the race, DREAMLAND was observed to have a cut injury at the left hock.
RACE NO.7(41) – THE ALBERTINI PLATE (DIV.II): (About) 1000 Metres – 8 Runners
RAVELLO (P.Trevor) was reluctant to be stalled. Further, after being stalled, the gelding got keen and charged the front gates which gave way and the gelding bolted towards the finish line. CLOUDS OF GLORY (Towfeeq R.Shaikh) also played up in the stall. The gelding was taken out and examined by the Club’s V.O. and found to be sore by the right hind leg and had suffered bruises at the right stifle area and above the left eye. As such, CLOUDS OF GLORY was certified unfit to race. Both the horses, RAVELLO and CLOUDS OF GLORY were withdrawn before coming under the Starter’s Order. Trainers Dallas Todywalla and Altaf Hussain have been asked to give their respective charge more gate practice and show them to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race. Further, CLOUDS OF GLORY has to be passed fit by the Club’s VO before next accepting to race.
Jockey J.E.Pereira (COOL RUNNINGS) reported that his mount was sluggish in the early part of the race and then ran green.
After the race, RAVELLO was found to be sound, but having an abrasion at the right fore cannon. DIAMOND THIEF was found to be sound.
RACE NO.8(42) – THE STRENGTHTOSTRENGTH TROPHY: (About) 1400 Metres – 13 Runners
ILLIDAN (S.Zervan) jumped out and veered towards the outside, thereby losing about 5 lengths at the start. Trainer P.Shroff has been asked to give the gelding more gate practice and show him to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.
Near 1200 metres, FRANKANELLA (P.Trevor) lost its position as SOMETHING SPECIAL (Kavraj Singh) shifted in. Jockey Kavraj Singh has been fined Rs 1,000/-.
Jockey Neeraj Rawal (ZAZOU) reported that his mount did not get a clear run passing 600 metres.
Jockey Akshay (HALLELUJAH) has been cautioned for failing to ride out his mount to complete advantage.
After the race, BETHPAGE was observed to have an abrasion at the right fore cannon. SMART RAIDER and HALLELUJAH (examined on 10/08/2014) were found to be sound.
RACE NO.9(43) – THE LONDONDERRY PLATE: (About) 1400 Metres – 10 Runners
Soon after the start, PEPE SENIOR (App.S.J.Sunil, dr.7) shifted in and went across SUPERLICIOUS (App.Yash Narredu, dr.6) and then MAMBO MAGIC (P.Kamlesh, dr.5) and ORIENTAL ROCKY (Kavraj Singh, dr.4). App.S.J.Sunil has been severely reprimanded.
App.S.Joseph (LORELEI) has been cautioned for failing to ride out his mount to complete advantage and for travelling wide while negotiating the bend.
After the race. LORELEI and GLORIOUS REWARD were found to be sound.

The post race urine sample of the winners of the 1st, 2nd, 4th and 8th race viz. CARTEL, MIDNIGHT RUN, TATIANA and ANGELING, and the special sample of JUST MY STYLE (5th race), were collected for detection of prohibited substance.

RE : APPEAL FROM TRAINER M AGANSINGH P.JODHA IN RESPECT OF THE FINE OF RS.10,000/- IMPOSED ON HIM BY THE STEWARDS OF THE CLUB FOR CONTRAVENING THE CALENDAR NOTIFICATION DATED 24TH SEPTEMBER, 2014 – “RE : PENALTY FOR IMPROVED PERFORMANCE WITHIN A SHORT SPAN OF TIME” – ENQUIRY INTO THE COMPARATIVE PERFORMANCE OF “SWORD OF HONOUR” IN RACE NO.356 – THE W.BUCKLEY PLATE RUN ON 26TH APRIL, 2014 WHICH THE GELDING WON AS COMPARED TO ITS PREVIOUS RUN IN RACE NO.353 RUN ON 20TH APRIL, 2014 WHERE HE WAS UNPLACED :
The Board of Appeal at its meeting held on 9th August, 2014 considered the Appeal preferred by Trainer Magansingh P.Jodha. The Board of Appeal considered all documents and papers that were submitted, including his grounds of appeal and considered the submissions made by him. Whilst appreciating the fact that the Stewards had penalized Trainer Magansingh P.Jodha as per the Calendar Notification, having taken a pragmatic view, the Board felt that the case under appeal was not a fit case of “improved performance” because in fact there is no “improved performance” in this case due to various reasons stated by the trainer. The Board also felt that there appears to be no malafide intention on the part of the trainer and that the owners were keen to run the horse and took a chance to win the race which was run at the end of the Mumbai Racing Season, etc. Considering the foregoing facts, without setting any precent for the future, the Board decided to allow the appeal and return the deposit. However, the Board cautioned Trainer Magansingh P.Jodha to be careful in future and to ensure that such incidents do not recur in future.
